You're probably right, some of the dialogue was pretty cringey though. "The truth is out there, Scully, and Tad O'Malley is gonna broadcast it!" ...ugh.

Oh, right you are. Not a good line.

To paraphrase Art regarding the writer of this line, he's not a Saint.

I'm quite happy with the new episodes. I haven't read about the show sequence, not sure I want to find out. The show is kind of like an old friend coming in for a short visit.

The bar has been raised for sure since the X-Files last aired...audiences today demand character development, in ALL the players on the show...that is why the Lone Gunman resonated originally...

I like the new shows, and I hope enough people do such that it can continue in the future...Rotten Tomatoes gives it a 58%...not a good sign...:-(

Despite its shortcomings, yes, it's great to have the show back. Definitely a step up from what I remember of seasons 8 and 9, though I think I've mostly blocked them out.

I was really hoping for Vince Gilligan to come back. Maybe the next series...

You can tell he was not involved in these that is for sure...he just walks by a tv set and his perspiration makes it automatically a better show...

Six is not enough.

No it is not...new fans will not have enough time to get to know the characters...

58 is the critics, 86 is the audience. Fox only really cares about the audience, so this is better than vice versa. The ratings were excellent, and that's the main thing Fox will look at.

I really hope so...I just have not got into a sci-fi show, or any show for that matter, like I did with the X-Files...I wanted to really like "Fringe", and it was ok, but it just didn't have that magic...

58% sounds about right.

They tried to jam too much into the first episode.  The pace was rather frantic.  I thought they could have spent more time developing the characters again and have better exposition of what they were investigating.

Ever watch "Millenium"? Another '90s Chris Carter show. Excellent and very X-Files-ish. See here:

It was quite good and woefully underappreciated.

Yes, but a hilarious end. Pure genius that little story arc.

At this point I'm real curious how much of a bump the new season is giving to sales/streaming of old seasons. Anyone have data on that?

Two subscription services offer the series for free. Hulu is also showing season 10 for free. Amazon is not.

This scene from the next episode is perfect.

Thank you for this. I tried to resist watching in advance but gave in. It's beautifully done and doesn't just work for fans but for people who don't really know the characters. Good stuff.

I was happy with both episodes so far it feels just like X-Files. I hope they get into what happened at Roswell more. I also like the uncertainty in the first episode about who to trust and whether or not the government was really behind it.

Heh heh Roswell was a smokescreen.

Heh heh Roswell was a smokescreen.

A smokescreen or a coverup? The way it was presented, I got the distinct feeling that the crash was an accident that threatened to reveal the alien presence on Earth and the government's knowledge of/dealings with them. It looked very much like a Men In Black cleanup operation, including killing a surviving alien or maybe *the* surviving alien.

It's a good strategy to present the monster of the week at this point in the comeback.  It builds the anticipation for the next overall-arc episode and keeps things interesting with a little variety, especially for a new audience.

It's so damn good to see a TV show with good writing and good actors, rather than the typical shallow who-bopped-who or where am I having my next skinny latte nonsense.

"Six is not enough."

Yes, a show like X-Files is the difference between asking "What's on, tonight?" or "What should we download?" and knowing what you're going to watch, while looking forward to it.

People have been saying they have been binge watching recently. I have been re-watching episodes since it went off the air. Everyone has their likes, but this show, even when some episodes didn't measure to other episodes, they were still good.

I thought this was a fairly decent site for background info on The X-Files and details of the mytharc.

I don't usually go for this kind of thing, but this one was pretty good, and at least as informative as Carter was in his recent MITD appearance.
