Here's my question:

I think it's a fairly serious crime to hold someone against their will.

I also think a person is within their right to do whatever is necessary to avoid being held by unknown persons against their will. 
So what would the consequences be of refusing to stop when these fools run out onto the freeway to stop traffic and block the cars in?  If I'm first in line they should probably get out of the way..

What, is asking you to stop your car and turn around once every 20 years too steep a price to pay to defend the cultural and historical tradition within free societies, esp. our free society, to disobey government when that government is viewed to be opposed to that free society?  It's myopic in the extreme to equate the right to protest, or rather  (since we really have no legal right to disobey the law), with the content of one particular protest.
