I'm not sure.  My husband has/had asthma.  He said it's extremely rare, these days, almost unheard of, that an adult dies of that disease these days. 

That, and his remarriage was so swift, and probably that he left the country for a while. 

Art's life has so many incidents in it that can point this way or that.  There are always logical explanations for these odd coincidences, but they do lead people to talk.   

My understanding is that Ramona had emphysema, or at least I remember reading that somewhere. I grew up with a girl who's asthma attacks were so bad that even the hormones that she took did not help much. She was in the emergency room every time that her inhaler didn't do much to help her breathing.  Art and Ramona were in the middle of the desert when her attack hit her. No hospitals or EMTs around. Also, Ramona and Art were big time smokers. That can't help the situation when you can't breathe.
