Bad 80's music is one of the recognized stages of grief.  Being as I really don't recall if 99 Luftballons has been posted yet- I will err on the side of caution to prevent repeats...

Fine... One of my personal guilty pleasures. How can you not like it?  (By the time I was drinking age, it was the Nicki French (Sp?) remix that was popular... But this one stands the test of time.)

That could be libelous Jack. Or maybe not. People have said worse on here lately.

Remember your Monty Python. "Nobody ever expects the Inquisition."

And sometimes it's no joke, is it? People are really, really surprised to hear a knock at the door.

So what you're telling me is... that it's plausible.

Hey... remember when Bell was carrying on and on about how he couldn't get the Ministry of Immigration to allow his bride and scion into the country?

Maybe they were on to something.

Hard to say, really. What is true is that the implausible sometimes turns out to be plausible, which is one reason the joke worked (and still works) so well.

That would not be the case if you weren't under NDA.

Getting rowdy in here again I see. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=tCdsO1mBGE4

Rowdy alright. More wild statements, questions of libel and possible unforeseen consequences, and, of course, the Spanish Inquisition (or any inquisition really; it wouldn't need to be Spaniards). Looks like the music videos may be over for the night.

Uh oh, I better be more clearer-er. It's totally implausible that your wild theory could be plausible. The less implausible prospect of a process server knocking at your door (the modern version of the Inquisition) as a result of your wild theory is what I was referring to.

Let's keep the positive vibe in here. Favorite Art Bell Show of all time?
Mine is still the Area 51 call in show. Even with that call being fake he still got knocked off the air. Good times. I think I've come to realize it is the time of my life I associate with those times as well. I was working afternoons, and just stumbled upon it. I remembered hearing it as a teen too a few times and it scared the hell of out me.

I think I miss the professionalism of radio in today's podcasts. It used to mean something to either be a degreed engineer or had gone to broadcasting school, or doing your time in various DJing chairs and finally landing in talk radio. With any person being able to broadcast the quality sucks.

I sound old, I'll just get my walker now.  :D

Haha - yeah there's so much startlingly good music in the last several pages that I had to bookmark this section.  It's interesting to see that the people I didn't like have posted music that I don't like.  And that a few of the people I didn't know about, will now get the benefit of the doubt for posting some real gems.

This is exactly what this thread has needed - an acoustic "smudging," since we don't have any exorcists in here  :)

I love that song, btw.

My favorite music is 80's music..  There's just something about it.  Perhaps reminds me of my childhood, which was actually relatively shitty. Music has always been a way to deal.  Music and books, but mostly music.

I thought that Area 51 caller was so overtly fake that I was cringing the whole time through that call; I don't understand why so many people fell for that one.

Yesterday I listened to the 1994 Ghost to Ghost, and some of those stories sounded totally credible and absolutely freaky.

The unsung power of the archives is hearing them again with 20 years of context to draw upon.  For example, the May 1, 2005 interview with Joe Meyer about the impending economic armageddon - that guy sounds like a friggin' prophet after seeing how the 2008 global economic meltdown nearly toppled the entire world economy, for precisely the reasons he discussed.  And the alien abduction interviews with Dr. Karla Turner and Katarina Wilson eerily presage Dr Jacob's claims - which is weird because after reading the methodological catastrophe evinced in his hypnosis transcripts I didn't believe anything he had to say.  It's much harder to dismiss after hearing independent confirmation from sources 20 years earlier.

I think of the 80s as the death rattle of the music industry - it still had some life left in it into the 90s but the greed and corporatization had destroyed it by the end of the 90s.  People tend to blame the internet for its ultimate demise, but the truth is that file sharing just put an end to its misery.

Peter Murphy is one of those legendary artists who has both a great voice and a knack for songwriting.  I don't think a guy like that could get their work on the air anymore - the industry is so sick and stupid now that if you're not a 20ish model type who's willing to sing songs produced by ghost writers and corporate engineering teams, your chance of getting a record contract are akin to your chance of being simultaneously struck by a lightning bolt, a meteor, and a falling piano.

I liked the first Mel's Hole call.  I didn't really believe it but I remember trying to figure out how much the fishing line weighed to see if it would stay straight even if it hit bottom.  I arrived at the answer that it didn't weigh enough, in fact the weight was very small.  It was an intriguing story that I wanted to be true.  His later calls spoiled it.
