You should see a doctor about your curious case of last-word-ittice.

I dont think lying is the issue.
I think the issue is " tonight or any other night", and then an hour later, " well, I might be back".

...and then a couple of days later, "I never said I was retiring, just that I would never broadcast again" or words to that effect. Yes, that's the issue if he decides to get back on the air. He'll need some way of salvaging some credibility and trust with (some or most of) the audience. A good PR consultant would help.

Could have done better than that one. Piss poor response. Tell us why you are here.

As horrific, and unfortunate 'this' Art Bell saga is, I must say...it's the best "RADIO" I've heard in years.

This run is so god damned embarrassing.  They are all clowns. I'm actually terrified.  What are people thinking. its not even about the parties anymore. Its justa big clusterfuck of stupid. I know its cliche as hell to say im moving to canada if so and so wins, but if trumps in the white house, im killing myself.

They have figured out that it really doesn't matter who they put out front. The POTUS is a distraction. They could put a Yellow-Naped Amazon in the Oval Office and it wouldn't make any difference... it would be business as usual, behind closed doors.

I see value in Pi.

Since Art hinted he might drop in on MITD occasionally, how about a 2016 NY predictions show for old times sake?

I dug this list of 2015 predictions out of the BellGab closet.  Mixed in among the usual BG absurdity are some pretty decent predictions.

Ding! Ding! Ding! for It's Over...

I know I'm going out on a limb, but I predict Noory will continue to suck in 2015.  Also, Art will quit once again.  I'm not sure he'll start again but he'll definitely quit.

Please Art, we'll hire security! Or you can broadcast from a top secret location.

Worry about your own fucking life and not his.  You're in charge of your own happiness, and art in charge of his.

Frikken brilliant.

Im not sure what I would do.  I'm not 60 year old Art finding myself suddenly widowed.

What is an appropriate period to wait? Where does that number come from?

Ramona was gone.  There were no thoughts of her's to consider.

Who said Art didn't have any moral issues that he had to set aside or get through.

You are projecting bro.  Don't tell art how to feel, or anyone else for that matter.  Worry about your own fucking life and not his.  You're in charge of your own happiness, and art in charge of his.

Agreed.

I grew up in a small Rocky Mountain town along the Continental Divide. The local radio stations generally shut down at 10 PM when I was a child and in my teens, a bit later, at midnight. I've been a lifelong insomniac and the radio, was always my best friend in the middle of the night. I would spend countless hours, with my bedside set off-tuned between stations, listening to the 'skip'. The stations would fade in and out but it was a brilliant kind of magic, to be able to listen to stations from seemingly everywhere... but only at night.

By the late 80's, when I was attending university, I was still a hopeless insomniac and still hopelessly addicted to 'surfing skip'. One night in, it would have to have been 1988, just after my oldest son was born, I was predictably up late, typing papers for the next days' classes, when I came across something a little different. The voice on the radio had a unique quality and tone that I had never heard before. It was from a station in Nevada, the show was called Coast to Coast AM and the voice was Art Bell's.

I was immediately hooked! I absolutely loved the show and would spend the dark hours tuning and retuning that faint, distant station in hopes of never missing a single second of the wild and wonderful things they were discussing. Some nights, especially during the summer, I would scream at the radio, if I couldn't find it on the dial.

By 1990, my local AM station had picked it up and I was in late night bliss. For the next couple of decades, I remained a faithful listener. I even set up a dedicated VCR to record any programs I might have to miss. I loved the show, but as it evolved through its various incarnations, only Art Bell had the magic. Some of the other hosts were OK, but none of them really "got it". (If you know what I mean)

Through the ups and downs, the I'm ins and the I'm outs, I've aways been here. I've finally had a chance to listen to "The Heather Show". I'm sorry but that was not even close to Art Bell. That was nowhere near being a first class, flagship show, in any radio format. That, was simply a (rather generic) podcast. No offense to Heather, but that was amateur night.

Sorry Art, but this time, it truly looks like it's over, well over...

I'm not calling Art a lair. I don't think he is. However, I don't think he's being honest with us, or himself, about what he posted Friday. He quit. Followed by affiliates dropping programming, Keith send out the "email"...

It doesn't matter anymore. He's finished unless he starts podcasting. Last night bateman, told us about a radio deal MITD & Cummulus were working on. Possibly, weeks away completion. Torpedoed. One hour of carelessness; two years of work gone. Poof.

Arguing semantics at this point? Okay. What's the point? Even if Art miss spoke via posts...

I don't think Art quite realized what he was doing, nor do I think he was thinking rationally.  His wife and kid were scared shitless, and it was either face them or face us..  who would you choose?   I get that he was upset and they were upset, but there is SO much he didn't consider. I'm not saying he shouldn't protect his family. But what about all of those (lesser) shows on the network that kinda need him in order to be on the air? What about the time and money Keith has invested, as well as Art himself?  Did he really think? IMO, NO. Not rationally.  Not long enough to come up with a reasonable solution to his problem.  I am not going to call Art a liar, nor am I going to go off on him like so many people feel they have a right to do. I'm certainly not his mommy, and he has no need to explain himself to anyone but those people close to him who are directly impacted by his giving up the show.  But I heard some people on the network talking last night (before MITD came on the air), and they were pissed.  They're gonna have to stop doing live shows because of him.  They may be riding his coattails, but still.  Do they deserve this? No.

Yes, his family's safety... blah blah blah ... Great. Keep them safe. No one's arguing against you doing that, Art. Other option's were available. I'm not going down that road.

The issue now; contradicting posts regarding "hanging it up for good". Quitting, un quitting, re re quitting, un un quitting...

All hail Elcott! I not do drugs more. Until I do.

If that's true, and there's no reason to not believe bateman, then the way the retirement announcement was handled is worse than previously thought. No wonder Art tried to walk it back and deleted any mention of it on his FB.

He doesn't want to hang it up. He just thinks he had no other options. Trouble is now there really are no options.  I think he shut most (if not all of them) down.

Great post. I agree with most of it. I'm not trying to be Art's mommy or daddy. I also believe I've been civil with my posts. Harsh? Maybe. He's not beyond reproach. My issue; his attempt Monday, to paint a narrative that the posts he chose to make Friday, can be taken back and/or their meanings changed-- as if nothing happened!? Then, then expect to be taken seriously? Without a retort? Ha!

In a post on his facebook page he said he's upset that drama seems to follow him, without realizing that he makes these situations worse by responding in typical knee-jerk fashion. It's what makes being an Art Bell fan so frustrating, because you're constantly walking on the edge of a knife. Stepping away and handing the show over to someone else was the right call until this stalker mess is sorted but he made such a definitive statement on the matter that fans, and plenty of others, were left holding the bag one more time.

Just Me

How bout this............

Art has a contest so that his minions can guess the next resurrection of their savior and rejoice the moment with lame banter as the court jester returns, again.

He'll be back sooner than we all think, TigerLily.  He'll work things out.  His initial message "not tonight or any night" was in haste and he was under pressure.
