My grandma used to say "We're shitting in tall cotton now!"  She was a riot and you just reminded me of her. Thank you for that.

My mother would say, "Shit or get off the pot."

Noory does not like the latter.  Great at the former however.

Art interviewing Graham Hancock would be a great show. Hes always interesting.

Graham Hancock is one of my fave guests of Art's.  He was on c2c just a couple of months ago,... or maybe 3 now,... and it was a good interview despite that it was George conducting it just coz Graham is so interesting.

I'd also love to hear Art interview Frances Kermeen, who owned the Myrtles Plantation house for several years (widely known as one of the most haunted houses in the U.S.) and wrote a fascinating book about her experiences there.  This is the creepiest book book about a haunted house I've ever read, and it rings absolutely true.  Scared me so much, I couldn't read it in the evening as it would keep me from sleeping at night.

I'd also love to hear Art interview Zak Bagans from Ghost Adventures, and get Zak to tell us some background stories of all the spooky places he and his crew travel to as they film their show for The Travel Channel.  Zak is sharp and engaging and I think it would be a lively interview.

And I know for a fact that S.T. Joshi, the preeminent scholar on H.P. Lovecraft, who wrote a 2 volume biography on him, would love to come on the show.  That guy can talk up a storm and it would be a fascinating interview.

MV might consider starting a thread entitled 'Suggestions for Guests for Art's new show Dark Matter.'  I'm sure we can all come up with 1-2 people who've never been interviewed on c2c before, but still have a good, weird tale to tell.

such a thread has already existed here for over a day:
Your Dream Guest Lineup for the First Week

Aren't the Upcoming Shows on the Coast to Coast AM website usually updated by now? They only have information for the Thursday and Friday shows and not the Saturday and Sunday and beyond. The Saturday show usually has the SIT information tacked onto it and in the past the information has been posted by this late in the week. What could be the hold up?

In addition the site is still offering some of Art's shows as Classics as well as the SIT shows. I wonder what the Coast Insider/Streamlink contract with users says and whether they can just pull all of Art's content from there. Some people may have signed up because of that content on the advertisement that that content would be available for a certain amount of time, which is a couple of years I believe. Anyone have some knowledge in this regard?

nah, the upcoming week's schedule isn't normally posted at the c2cam website until late on Thursday, so wait another 16hours or so.

PremRat might keep the Somewhere in Time replays until the week of Sept 16 when Art actually starts broadcasting the new show?

We have the answer to whether the artbell.com website will have the shows to download (whether subscription or free) and the answer is no.

A user on the artbell.com facebook site asked:

For those of us without Sirius... will there be a subscriber section online to download the shows?

and presumably Keith Rowland as artbell.com said:

Only through the SiriusXm Internet Radio player, which is the same price as the Satellite radio service, $14.49 a month. However you may want to consider the Internet option as it has many more channels than a radio. It is a better deal. You can try it out for 30 days for FREE, using this link: http://siriusxm.com/artbelloffer They will have on-demand archives of past programs. Not sure how big the archive will be. Ask me any questions you might have. Wait until the program is ready to start if you want. Get the first 30 days of Art for FREE.

So there you have it folks. You will not be able to hear the show unless you have Sirius.

Or ssshhhhh [whisper]you can wait for it to be on the torrents or the Tube.[/whisper]

:( wow , good news I guess. I do not think Sirius Radio is a good format for Art Bell. this means everybody will have to get Sirius radio signal which costsmoney every month. why not just get a start up on YouTube and put out a free broadcast for all his fans. we have never had to pay for Art Bell before why start now. and if it was money art needed he could have all the advertisers he wants, just don't charge us in this manner by making us join

that was totally expected since Sirius wouldn't get as many new subscribers for Art Bell otherwise, its the same with Howard Stern's show.
but that doesn't mean there might be torrent downloadable mp3 files of the show the next day somewhere on the net, just like there have been for Howard Stern's shows since he moved to Sirius in 2006...

Cool.

I hope they do keep it going post Sept 16 because it is the last source of "new" classic Art Bell shows. I doubt they would unless they are contracturally obligated to with the affiliates. if that's the case then as soon as that contract is up we will never hear a "new" classic Art Bell show ever again.

So, I don't know anything about Sirius or satellite radio programming.  It is going to cost $14.50 a month and that is the cheapest way to get Art's new show?  I don't want 300 sports channels, or other programming like that.  I know you can't with cable TV, but I thought with Sirius you could do a-la-carte ordering to pick some shows and it would be less expensive than $14.50??  I also think I would only want it at home as I don't drive much - is this doable and less expensive than vehicle service??  I have an internet radio, and I think it can handle Sirius but I don't know how that works - any advice?  Thanks much in advance for a total satellite newb.

QuoteBut I've also noticed a good many of the longtime posters here, who have a history of fair comment and even-handedness, haven't posted for several days. It makes me wonder what they see going on.

I am tired of the complaints about the cost of SiriusXM. I can't change it, I am happy I can afford it. I am setting up a contingency for some that do not have access to Art.

I have emptied the well on ways to describe how badly Dave sucks.

But I got your back, Sardondi.

Me, too.  My job was eliminated last September, and I've had to scramble to make a living doing whatever I can.  Part of that scrambling has been returning to the music business, and I'm surprised at the number of people who now think musicians should perform free.  The only thing an artist has to sell is time and talent.

It's the same with Art.  I'm going to find a way to listen to Art, and I have no resentment for paying.

Roy Hinkley

I hope I didn't come across as complaining about there being a cost.  I was just looking for clarification as to just how much it would cost, and if there were other ordering options to only get certain programs and not pay for a lot of unwanted content.  In my book, Mr. Bell is money well spent for entertainment.

I realize of course that under the new regime many, particularly some of the many new members who have flooded in, will think this somehow makes me a heretic. But I've also noticed a good many of the longtime posters here, who have a history of fair comment and even-handedness, haven't posted for several days. It makes me wonder what they see going on.

I hope I'm one of these. I haven't wanted to be the fly in the ointment, Hans, the monkey in the wrench, through all the giddiness about Art's welcome return, but history suggests that running out now and spending money for Sirius access might not be the best idea. My plan is to wait until the show airs and catch the inevitable postings to YouTube (until Sirius shuts them down). It may well be that Art has lost a step or two and won't necessarily be worth listening to ('better than Noory' aside), or will suddenly decide he doesn't want to do it after all.

GSD

If you think about it, Art Bell was a satellite radio caliber radio host far before the medium became a standard. In other words, Art should have been doing satellite radio when Howard Stern started but contractual obligations prevented this.

I've always yearned to hear Art uncensored, you really do get a better feel for the person in an uncensored candid environment.

Remember that 3 hours of satellite radio is like 5 hours of terrestrial radio. You're not dealing with annoying C. Crane radio spots.

Unlike Snoory, Bell can take an utter moron of a guest and make a compelling radio show. His voice really is like crack cocaine!

I don't know about giddiness. This site has always had speculation of Art returning. So much so, that it is quite understandable to infer that desire led to joy.

Art may well want to retire, he may find some constraints that annoy him. But what bead of sweat does it take from anyone if another chooses to invest in SiriusXM to listen to new Art Bell radio? Can't we at least give him the opportunity?

Always regretting the past is depression. Always fearing the future is anxiety. Right now it isn't a bad thing to enjoy.

I agree I am tired of hearing people complain about the cost of Sirius as well. If you can't eliminate SOMETHING to come up with that money, I question how hard you are trying in life. Seriously, bypass buying 1 pack of cigarettes, bypass a drink or two at the bar, don't go on that one long drive to save that in gas money, go to the dollar store for a ton of things that are of equal quality at a retail store (people should really be doing this anyways). There are tons of ways to come up with that tiny amount of money, just have some willpower and figure it out. It's not going to change, so bitching about it until people's ears bleed is pointless. I'm not trying to be rude, but if you can't shave at max, $15 a month off of something (actually if you get certain promos it's like $6 to $8 a month)  and move it to this, then you need to take a hard look at what you are doing with yourself in life.

As for the comment about the music business... You're so right. Touring costs have inflated so much, and promoters guarantees have gone way down as well, unless you are essentially top 10 draw in your genre. A lot of club owners want to pay little or nothing to bands. I had an off night a while back, and I have multiple PA systems at my place, one of the clubs I frequent asked me if I was busy the next night and wanted to guest DJ. I said sure, but how much money are we talking about and he goes "$50 for the night. That's more than anyone else I have come in here" I almost fell off the bar stool. I told him my rock bottom for 4 hours is $300 (and that's a 'friend price'), and he should feel like the biggest dick in the world to offer people that kind of money. A lot of younger musicians have no idea they should be getting paid. They get happy to make $25, and all they are doing is hurting themselves, and other musicians in the area.

I'll tell you this. I know it sucks, but you need to refuse to play for not enough money so this stops.

hey gang 15 cents a day.

I wonder if we can pay him to go away?

Not that anyone asked, but my opinion on AB going to SiriusXM is that it makes perfect sense.

Having worked in traditional radio for a major conglomerate within the last 5 years, I can vouch that it is a very restrictive medium today.  Most times flaws (too many spots, same music over and over, etc) have nothing to do with personalities but are a result of corporate management structures that micro manage every little thing in an effort to keep stockholders happy.   Radio has changed DRASTICALLY within the last 20 years.

I figure there were two ways for AB to get the creative freedom he wanted:

1. Podcasting (a la Adam Carolla)
2. SiriusXM

Seeing that AB has been a traditional radio guy, I am guessing the wild west nature of podcasting was too out there for him (though as a podcaster myself I love it).

So, that leaves SiriusXM as the only logical choice.  As for the cost, it is affordable for most people (unless you are truly in poverty) if you take advantage of the various deals out there.  Few things (including terrestrial radio when you consider wasted time on heavy spot loads) are truly free.
