I think Art should have called the show , "After Dark"... just like his original newsletter... and revived the newsletter as well.

Man oh man... I keep getting reminders of what has been missing. Thanks Cynnie.

I can't wait for Dark Matter to begin.

Here's a thought. We know that Noory does have some fans. Not many, and nowhere near as passionate or tech savvy as Art's, but they must exist. Kinda the same way that Ace of Base sold ten million records in the 90s but no one you know will admit to having owned one.

We're all thinking along the lines of how Dave will hem, haw and guffaw when an Art caller slips through. How do you think Art would handle it if a "Dave loyalist" called in to Dark Matter?

It's fun to speculate.

There's a 3 second delay  so he'll just hang-up on them as soon as he detects something is up

''Oops, looks like he hung up''

I kinda hope he has fun with it, like he would with JC. Who, I hope calls in on the first show.

I'm not sure, The name "Art Bell Overnight AM/PM Minimart." has a nice ring to it.

The world is a little more "balanced" because of Art's pending return.  We've worked a long time to expose Noory's slowly sinking ship and to encourage Art to return.  In some small way I'm sure that the thousands of pro-Art posts on CoastGab entered into his decision-making.

Art's got bigger issues to worry about than what some geeks have to say.

Yeah ! What he said

As much as I want to see Knapp do weekend with Art, I just don't see it. Knapp has on a few occasions mentioned he doesn't have the time to do more than what he does a few times a month. Remember him also saying he day job keeps him too busy.  Maybe Clyde Lewis joins forces with Art on the weekend so that he doesn't totally lose out.

Or maybe Whitely comes back? Dreamland...

I figured people would want to know. Even though his name isn't listed at whois anymore, Keith is still Art's guy. He just sent me a message this morning confirming it. :)

I'm back! Had to sleep sometime, right?  :D

I'm just going to reply to everyone who addressed me in this thread, I'm sorry if I don't remember who said or asked what...

As for over estimating Art's appeal, I really don't think that is the case. I am 37 years old, my wife is 24. Last year I introduced her to Art Bell's old C2C show, and to say she has become a fan is an understatement. She has devoured them. Every free moment she has she is listening to them. Not only that, but when I played her a couple of Dave's shows, she couldn't stand it and basically said what the rest of us say here, though she did say that if she hadn't heard Art before, she may have been more inclined to listen to C2C as it currently stands. I haven't done any massive surveys or anything like that, but even just basing it on her opinion, I think there will be a good deal of that.

C2C's new generation of fans are essentially 'online at all times' and use social media every few minutes. Looking at C2C's facebook page, it's clear that the majority of the people there are going to be listening to Art. One of the best examples I can think of is a guy who said, and I am paraphrasing here, 'thanks for the shows George. You have done a serviceable job, but now that the creator of C2C is back your services will no longer be needed. Thank you for the past few years'. I think the truth may be somewhere in the middle of what both you and are are saying about this. Do I think C2C is going to die because of Art's new show? No. The reality is Art's show is on satellite radio, and a lot of casual listeners don't have that. Though, if they keep reading about Art, I think many of the newer generation of listeners, of which I actually don't think are in THAT high of a percentage, will check out both Art's old C2Cs and his new show when they are put ou you tube, torrent sites, etc. That is essentially how I sample something to see if I am interested in it. To be perfectly honest, I can get most music for free anyways since I have worked in the business since I was a kid, but I still like to buy things and support people in the industry since I myself need that kind of support as well. Anyone who says they don't rip things off through a torrent site at times either has no idea how to do so, or is just outright lying.

To the girl who asked me how to get a free radio from Sirius. I would assume you can do it the same as you would for cable or direct TV. I have known people who have gotten them, but I myself have never tried, though I think I will be doing so latter today, and then I'll be able to give you more input. A lot of times, with all things of this nature, it is all about who you get on the phone. With companies like this, meaning cable as well as satellite radio and TV, the sales people can do a ton for you, but the real way to get things done is to get to the cancellation, or customer retention department. Those people can pretty much do whatever they want to keep you. As an example from a few years back, when I signed up with Direct TV, I signed up through the customer retention department. I got the programing for more than 50% off for a year, free installation, and HDDVR boxes for FIVE rooms for free. Just after that, my step dad called up and tried to get a similar deal and got nothing offered to him. When he told them they had just done it for me they essentially said "too bad", so it's very much about who you get on the phone. If you don't like the answer you get hang up, and try calling again and getting a different person.

Question from me... Anyone listen to Dave last night? Did anyone get an Art plug on the air yet?

Art's got bigger issues to worry about than what some geeks have to say.

Maybe he does have other things to worry about, but getting his core audience back is of the utmost importance, and I would imagine he is very well educated on what people here and on his Facebook account have to say, as well as the people on C2C's Facebook page. As others have said already, Art has been here several times over the past few days, and he certainly checks his Facebook constantly.

Scanning thru the support q&a section on the Sirius/XM website I found this page:
https://listenercare.siriusxm.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/3676

Has more details on different packages and prices plus yearly price vs monthly price.
The Sirius/XM internet only package price is $14.49 plus fees (somebody reported it comes out to a total of $15.38 with the fees I think)
but if you pay for a year at a time the total is $159.39 which is $13.28/month - so that appears to be the cheapest option with internet playback, the easiest since you could listen via any computer or internet device you already own (not have to buy a special radio with antenna)

the cheapest special package that has channel 104 i could find is $9.99/month but thats without internet option (that costs $3.50 more a month to add to a package without it) so unless you would only listen via a special Sirius radio, the internet only option is a better deal than that with the yearly pay option and it has way more channels too.

i suspect that with internet playback on a computer you could easily record the stream for archival  via readily available software like audacity or total recorder too.

I know I sound like a broken record but no!

The cheapest you can find with 104 is about $5-$6/month without internet option. Keep doing the 6 months for $25 deal.

You can add internet for like $2/month (they will offer it to you as a special discount.) Even if you never activate the physical radio, you can get the internet package for around $8-9/month doing this.

Meh.

I want Art Bell to install a mobile broadcast studio in his RV.  Then I want him to park it in my driveway and broadcast from there to make sure I get good reception.  I want him to change the name of the show to  'Art Bell's Gray Matter for Lonevoice'.  I want final approval of all guests and I want to choose the bumper music.  I want Art to do all the commercial voiceovers, but only 3 minutes per hour, and only for products I'm considering buying and interested in his opinion about.  I want every show to have the Lonevoice Only call-in line.  I want Keith to install a fast blast app on Art's computer that's for my personal use alone.  Speaking of Keith, I want him to make house calls to be certain all my internet devices have the latest software and firmware upgrades installed at all times.  I want Art to guarantee me that his ratings will smash, that C2C will die, and that his closing words every night will be "Dave Noorie Sucks."   I want Art to have a forum attached to his website, and when you click on the hyperlink it goes to BellGab.com, where all prospective new members require my permission to join.  If anyone harshes my buzz, I will ban them.

Finally, if, and only if, all of my conditions are met, I will allow Art to pay for my lifetime subscription to SiriusXM because there's no way I'm going to pay to listen to radio.

So I signed back up for Sirius Internet Radio yesterday (only the internet subscription). I've been able to play it with no problems on my ipad but have not been able to play it on my computer - the pop-up opens up to listen online but them it just changes into a white inactive box. I've tried it on both Firefox and IE8. Sirius online help is useless as usual and I haven't set aside an hour of time and patience to call the 866 number. Anyone else having or had this issue in the past?

So, if I have this correct, Sirius is building Art his own studio at home. I wonder how Jorch's Hawaii studio is coming along? It was supposed to be finished in August. August 2011 or 2012 or 2013, to be precise. Good question for the special 'Jorch tiem' (ick).

Streaming SXM on a computer requires the latest version of Flash Player.   I know they were having trouble with some browsers (particularly Chrome) when they upgraded their streaming page a couple of months ago.

Keith Rowland: I hope I can do a good job for the fans. The real website is almost complete and will launch REAL SOON NOW. Should I have another Progress bar???
8 hours ago · Unlike · 17

Keith Rowland: Inside business, the site you see now is just a simple HTML page that was being used to run up to the announcement. The real website was being developed behind the scenes for several weeks. When the REAL site is launched, (REAL SOON NOW) it will contain more information about the show and will have the countdown timer. Currently it shows --- 47 Days, 19 Hours, 20 minutes!

Larkin Walken: OMG. Keith, you should go to the Art Bell thread on Coastgab, starting about about page 310. There is page after page of posts of speculation about what it all meant. It will CRACK YOU UP!

Keith Rowland: We were just praying for the AP story to post when it did. We really didn't know when to pull the trigger, as we had to wait for the AP story to break.

Keith Rowland: The new studio has to have much more modern equipment than Art used 10 years ago. He'll be connected to the network via ISDN and will be playing his bumper music from his studio as before. Calls will come into the network and fed back to Art, but he will be clicking the buttons to take UNSCREENED callers live!!!! Yeah!
7 hours ago · Unlike · 12

Keith Rowland: I'll be posting "best of" clips from the show on the website. Should be some cool stuff!
7 hours ago · Unlike · 6

Keith Rowland: I don't think the show will be stereo, as talk radio doesn't need it. But I could be wrong, I've heard stereo material on some talk channels. The ISDN link from Art might only be MONO, but the network material that's played on the channel could still be stereo. I can only hope that maybe they will find a way to have stereo sound over the ISDN line. But it (ISDN) is limited in bandwidth, so we might rather want to favor a great quality mono audio over a poor quality stereo feed. I'm excited that listener will be able to here a wide-band audio signal, instead of limited AM audio. I used to record the signal off satellite, it was great, but realized that most listeners heard the limited sound of AM. Realizing AM has its own mystic, I look forward to High-Fidelity Art Bell.

Keith Rowland: Of course with the Internet Radio player, you will get the best sound possible.
7 hours ago · Unlike · 4

Keith Rowland: I think I'll try to compare the sound quality of the satellite audio with the Internet Player audio and see which one is better. SiriusXM doesn't give us the details of the stream bandwidth bps. I'll report my finding on the website.
I hope you subscribe via the website link, as it pays the website a little commission. I can use all the potential website link income as I can.
7 hours ago · Unlike · 8

Keith Rowland: My Kindle App works great also. It just needs a Sleep Timer, as of now, it just stops after an hour. Not configurable.
7 hours ago · Unlike · 2

Keith Rowland: Don't know about "Saving/Downloading" yet, but certainly "Past Programs On Demand" will be there. And the Internet player has all that functionality built in. If you came online and was late to the show, you can rewind to the beginning and start listening.
7 hours ago · Unlike · 4

Keith Rowland: I've been trying out the Kindle App, the IOS app, and the computer App. Im very happy with what they have built. The selection of channels on the Internet Player is better than just the radios.
7 hours ago · Unlike · 5

Keith Rowland: The SiriusXM app certainly has features that are better than the FREE Radio apps, as it has to be. Rewinding up to 5 hours early to catch up, playing previous on demand programs, along with their new MySXM which allows you to customize your music and comedy channels to favor your music preferences. So you actually hear a different selection of songs from that of the live feed.

First, we have to remember Art has been off the air for over a decade. A whole new generation of listeners have come of age who have no idea who he is and little inclination to find out. But these newer C2C listeners are at least likely to experiment with Art, and could easily be persuaded to change their listening habits..

I'd just like to say you're underestimating the amount of "younger" new listeners.  I, for one, never listened to him while he was on air, but I discovered him through archived shows, youtube, etc.  I'd hope there are plenty of us out there who are excited about getting to hear him live.
