there was no virus issue. the coastgab.com domain was briefly redirected to a facebook noory fan page.  there was no virus.  it was intentional on MV's part.  the ultimate April Fools joke.  a pretty damn good one.

THERE WAS NO VIRUS ON THE SITE.  THE DOMAIN WAS REDIRECTED TO A NOORY FACEBOOK PAGE.  NO VIRUS
Now I'm confused.  I never got the Facebook redirect.  Everytime I tried to visit here on April 1 a Jehovah's Witness rang the doorbell.

JUST ONE NOTE:

Have you noticed the strange behavior and activities here at Coast Gab?

Well...one in particular tends to stand out more than others.

Art will announce late this month his return to radio! This will be a Monday through Friday show...

Nighttime to compete head to head with Coast?

Also, I'd like to have your opinion about what's going on with Bad Boy and Nighthawk Zone.  They seem to be gone ....?  A joke?

As far as what I've seen (and I was one of the original members there, since estranged) the NightHawkZone.com has been redirected to the c2c website and the pages no longer exist. BB left no forwarding address and I lost track of everybody there. So here I am with everybody here. Hello ;)

When I first bumped into this site I had no inclination it would become something I actually look forward to. Thanks MV.

Simply put this is more fun than watching most shows on TV, doesn't take as much time as most hobbies, and is more intellectually stimulating than most pulp being sold to us as the #1 best seller.

This is pretty good entertainment. Again thanks.

I dunno, I would hate to see rock take his conjecture/facts and leave. Mebbe he should chill a bit before suspecting nefarious actions but hey we are all nuts here... admit it you know I am right.

Anyhoo getting too worked up over any debate on the interwebs is similar to thinking your insurance salesman really is excited to talk to you.

Well, Easter is towards the end of this month, and that holiday symbolizes rebirth, renewal, resurrection, so who knows? Like Anagrammy and many others, I *want* to believe, even when rationale and reason dictate otherwise. I'm an optimist by nature, so there's nothing wrong with, or lost by, being guardedly hopeful. As ever, time will tell. In the meantime, I can say with absolute sincerity that this board has proven far more entertaining than any non Bell/Knapp/Punnet C2C episode for many a year. Just sayin'.

With you there, onan.  I freely admit that my footsteps never really find full purchase on the "normal" footpath.
Besides, I just found one of my son's old bike helmets.  Now when I fall off my chair laughing, it doesn't hurt quite as much.   :-*

Just joined the site and I saw so many negative comments about Noory, I wanted to balance the argument and say that I think Noory is just as good as Bell. I've been an on/off listener to Coast over the years and I've got to say, after recently discovering Coastgab,  it's quite disconcerting to see some of the hatred directed towards one of the current hosts of the show posted around this forum. Shouldn't we be thankful that Coast continues to operate with people who, for the most part, are of a similar mindset to the original host? No one is perfect.. Art was often egotistical and Noory actually believes in an afterlife. But those personality flaws and illogical belief systems shouldn't be enough to illicit hatred.

don't call it hatred.  it's pronounced disdain. there's a difference.  well ... maybe someone here HATES noory.  not me.  but you can't say noory is on the same level as art bell.  cause it's just not true

In today's obfuscated climate of debate, if you disagree with someone, or disagree with what they do, then you must have "hatred" or be a "racist".  It is a weak way to try to disarm someone over an issue rather than bother thinking about things.  It casts the "other" as though they are non-thinking polemics blinded by emotion.  I'm afraid many of our younger folks have picked up the habit of quickly applying words such as these.

I interpret the use of the word hatred to represent a very personal aversion to someone.  We don't know George Noory personally.  However, we can judge his performance on his show, which is consistently sub-standard by any means of measurement.

Well, I think it's a completely subjective preference. Art and Noory both have their good and bad points, they're only human. It's strange for me, as a casual listener of Coast, to see people trashing one of the existing hosts in an almost ritualistic fashion. I've read through some of the threads and it seriously feels like I've inadvertently entered into some sort of Art Bell cult, the members of which want to see George Noory's head on a pole in the middle of the village. It's weird man. I mean these guys are just radio hosts and they all do a great job. I don't understand all the negativity towards Noory, just enjoy the damn show.

Well put, Marc.  If the OP is sincerely interested in the considered opinion of this group of Coast fans, we invite you to compare carefully the interviewing style of Art Bell with the interviewing style of George Noory.  Seriously, man, they are not similar.  Noory does not set the subject matter with any personal introduction.  Note I said "set the subject matter."  Here is my favorite example-- I wish I could post the mp3, but the grab-my-marbles-and-run-home idiots at Premier have used legal means to (try to) keep us from sharing horrific examples of the show's downward slide.

When interviewing the publisher of a book on time travel, Art started with "I've always had a fascination with the Vatican..."  If you search Vatican on this site, there is a verbatim transcript from me.  He continued to expand, "when I saw that chronovisor time viewer had been given to the Vatican, I was hooked.  Can you imagine how many secrets are tucked away in the dark gloam of that Vatican vault?  Sure--they could have a time machine in there and be using it on a daily basis for all we know.  They do not give their secrets...but tonight we have as our guest a man with secrets, the publisher of a new book out on the fascinating Chronovisor--..."

Here is a sample of a fictional Noory introduction to the same subject:  "We have with us today the publisher of a new book on time travel, Mr Paul XXX, who will fill us in on the Chronovisor.  Get ready for that after this message.....   Now Paul, I understand the priest is dead who wrote this book, right?  (Yes)  And wasn't he actually from St Paul, Minnesota?  (Yes)  Well, you know, I lived in St. Paul for several years with my parents when I was growing up.  I remember the time my dad first took me to see the famous...."

Many of us find this infuriating when we want to hear about the CHRONOVISOR not George Noory's childhood experiences.

Can you see the difference now?  It wasn't obvious to me at first, either.  I thought the same thing you did.  It isn't until you listen carefully that you start to realize there's just not the depth or the education, nor the interviewing skills to highlight the interesting aspect of the guest's claims.

Check it out and I'd like to hear back from you.  Welcome to CoastGab!

You're fixating on semantics rather than addressing the substance of the argument. The general public didn't know Osama personally, yet an undeniable hatred arose surrounding the figure. Whether you want to refer to Noory's reception, among certain individuals, as being hate-filled, negative, disdainful, unimpressive, deplorable, sub-standard or whatever, the core of my statement still stands.  Please address that rather than nitpick on one particular word. It's like being back at school again.

I think you summed it up nicely there.  It is like being back to school again, where we analyze things here, and have a little fun while doing it.

YNOT

I'm not going to take the time to find specific examples, because I simply don't give that much of a damn, but George Noory couldn't interview himself with any coherency...

How many times have I wanted to strangle the turd through the radio, (or streamlink), when He totally missed the ball on something.  A guest will say something which begs to be explored, and George will ignore it and ask a question completely disjunctive to the logical flow.  I can even hear the guest grit his/her teeth sometimes when thrown for a loop.  It is obvious at these times that George is just reading the next queue card and only half listening to the guest.  He rarely, if ever, engages the guest in any meaningful discourse.  Annagrammy can fill you in on his many, ignorant, stock responses.  Furthermore, he so non confrontational it just pisses me off! It's like He's afraid of making the guest uncomfortable.  Even when there are a million listener's bullshit detectors going off like crazy,  George will just complacently agree with the guest. Comparing George Noory's ability to articulate himself to Art Bell's is like comparing Elmer Fudd to Einstein...

And yes, Gilganjun, we here are for the most part, die hard Art Bell fans...To us the Coast to Coast AM show with Art Bell was much more than simply a radio show... As a "casual" listener you wouldn't get it...

It's an Art Bell Thang....

(But even without having been a die hard fan, At least two of my coworkers I've turned on to CtoC over the years, have expressed disbelief at George's terrible interviewing skills.)

Oh well, enough ranting...

The negativity towards George, at the core, has nothing to do with personality traits, "good points and bad points" and the like. It's got to do with job competency. George is not a good radio host. He does his job very poorly. This is not in comparison to Art Bell. It is in comparison to any host of a nationwide talk/interview radio show.

Well, that's a very interesting analysis of the two competing styles. I'll certainly keep mindful of the stylistic disparity in the future although, to be honest, it's been at least a year since I last heard Bell now. But, that goes back to my original point. While the style was noticeably different, I believe Bell was just as flawed as any other host. I remember thinking, on more than one occasion, that Bell was talking too much during an interview and needed to redirect the attention to the guest, much the same as you view Noory now. So I think that issue could just be a common pitfall of interviewing. It's difficult to achieve the perfect balance of intercommunication to please all listeners unanimously, at all times.

Regardless, even in the scenario that a particular listener perceives Noory's style as substantially inferior to Bell's, is that justification enough to perpetually criticize the host? I mean the show is about the information that the guests outlay, the hosts are just there to extract that information. Of course, all hosts will miss opportunities to interject, probe and flesh out key statements made by the guests. Art has certainly done that in the past too, as have probably all other interviewers in all forms of interviewing. I don't think it's justifiable that Noory should be belittled on that basis, the bulk of his interviews, in their totality, still offer a vast amount of fascinating information that has become synonymous with Coast to Coast.

i think what everyone is really trying to say is that ... in some small way .. everyone here thinks they'd do a better job than every other host out there.  especially george noory

I enjoyed listening in on your call to MV last night on the stream.  I gotta get a headset.

I suppose there may seem to be "hatred" for noory. Really I don't care how it is parsed. Most of us here think noory not only does a poor job but has diminished the atmosphere of the unknown and the excitement of intrigue.

So noory may catch a very critical eye from members here, so what? In most posters opinion noory fails on so many levels it is too laborious to list.

My dog in the fight misses the insight on Art and (although I have not listened to noory in a long time) noory has the subtlety of a 2x4 and can't even find nuance in the dictionary.

I welcome different opinions and if you consider noory on equal footing to Art then jolly good for you.
