That's happened to me a few times. There are a couple of ways to resolve the issue; depending on how reasonable the landlord is and how much money you have to play with. If the landlord is cool there may be a way to bargain for a new water heater. If possible offer to share the cost with installation. Or (and this one is probably a standard with rental authorities) suggest that your rent be held in some sort of escrow to cover the cost of the new water heater. And third, it seems your friend Aldous has more connections than a 50's telephone operator, have him help find someone to get a great deal on a water heater.

Lastly, come out to NC and visit until your heater is fixed.

I'm convinced Glide is no longer as good as it was ten years ago.  It seems to break/shred alot more now.  I'm a twice-a-day flosser.  You might call me a floss enthusiast.  I can tell.

I think the quality went down after they stopped manufacturing it themselves, and instead licensed it out to corner-cutting mega-corporations. 

Maybe I should be posting this in the First World Problems thread.

I once saw a story on the seedy underbelly of credit card cos.  In their bizarro upside-down world it's the people who pay off their charges each month who are called "deadbeats".
