I'm thrilled with the victory but they were hardly decimated.  We need to convince more people to join us and being brash doesn't work for everybody. I'm not saying we have to compromise our ideals but we need to present them in a manner that is palatable.  Going off half-cocked on Twitter doesn't work for everybody.  I voted for the guy but there are certainly many people who didn't vote for him but would have if he chose his words a bit more carefully.  I get you want somebody that likes to punch back, so do I, but I'd rather he stuck to house rules.  I guess that is the difference between us, MD. It takes all kinds to elect a President.  Keep that in mind.

According to Melania that's all he can do.  ... Hey, if Trump can still be Trump, I can still be TL

Hmm, who should I believe, Merriam-Webster dictionary or some fag on bellgab?

Tough choice.

You probably think etymology is a unit at your local hospital, don't you?

No, decimate means 'one in ten'. In ancient Rome they would punish Roman legions by killing every tenth soldier. Language ought to be used with precision or not at all. Otherwise you sound like a rube.

Personally, I'd be inclined to doubt that Trump was anti-Semitic,  if only because he seems to be someone of no strong convictions of any kind. There seems to be little that he will say one day that he isn't capable of repudiating the next. That rambling answer he gave to a Jewish reporter last week may have just been the blatherings of a not-particularly-bright man, or perhaps he had one eye on his base, who have a more equivocal view about Jews, who can say? Give him the benefit of the doubt and see how things go in the future.

You are being much too reasonable for you.  Are you feeling well?

That's just silly.  Everyone knows etymology is the study of bugs.  Jeesh.

Gotta love, Trey Gowdy.  He's already got my vote.  Now all he needs to do is run. ;)
Rep. Gowdy Counters Calls for Special Counsel in Russia Investigation.  3.1.17.

Aww c'mon! How many Benghazi investigations (22) and how much was spent by the FBI on the emails ($20 million)? And all we want is one little old Special Prosecutor. You did it for Bill. Even M.D. said sunlight is the best disinfectant

Usage:

Historically, the meaning of the word decimate is ‘kill one in every ten of (a group of people)’. This sense has been more or less totally superseded by the later, more general sense ‘kill, destroy, or remove a large proportion of’, as in the virus has decimated the population. This is wrong, though, and people who use that are the products of incest. Some traditionalists argue that this is incorrect, quite rightly, but it is clear that it is now part of standard English.. This is clearly all the fault of Americans, who don't have a fucking clue.

Lexicography has got rather rock 'n' roll these days. Still, it's nice to know that I'm right, not that there was any doubt of that.

I will. We get together every time I'm in New York for a cup of tea and Xanax

When liberals are deep dicked so hard by Donald Trump, they are reduced to blather on incoherently about the usage of the word "decimate".

Juan

So (ha) according to Senator Warner (D-VA) the Russians hacked the election by using trolls to post on the Internet.  Really, that's all you can come up with.  We on Bellgab had our very own Hillary/Brock paid troll.  How many of your minds were changed by the posts of 136 or 142?

Yeah, that's about where I am, too.  Trump is a horrible speaker, and anyone who looks to his extemporaneous remarks for anything other than sloganeering is doomed to disappointment.  FWIW I had to re-listen to that Jewish guy's question before I got it, and I think Trump took pains to address those concerns last night.

I am more concerned with what he does than what he says and I am encouraged (perhaps naively) that, with things like immigration reform, where we may be asked to distinguish legally between useful immigrants and criminals, and the new Muslim ban, which will probably identify  helpful Muslims we like from others we don't, the political discourse will move into a phase where a person's race or religion isn't the primary defining feature.  IMO, that's progress insofar as it represents discrimination -- the good kind -- instead of facile lumping.

They can't help it, Doc, it's their nature.

The guy lost his job over it. I hope he thinks it was worth it. Karma's a bitch sometimes (most times).  ;)
