At least celebrities are safe, for a time what with Christopher Lee and The American Dream Dusty Rhodes, a local Austin product, passing away. Sucks.

Lee helped provide air cover for Allied attacks in North Africa, hunted down Nazi war criminals, then played Dracula and fought Yoda for fun.
A full and meaningful life.

Just finding this out.  Can't help but be sad.   Christopher Lee was so active his whole life.  Well now he and Peter can make some more movies together in the Great Beyond. I wonder what sort of horror movies sell tickets in heaven?  What is there to be afraid of up there?

Anyway, he still lives on in his movies that we can basically now watch whenever we get the urge.  We won't talk about his films that he made with Jess Franco.  I enjoy them for what they are. Artsy gratuitous sex though Lee never had to get naked. Actually Count Dracula is not a bad film, at least in the scenes where there is no jerky zoom, and it is faithful to the novel and you get the added bonus of Klaus Kinski as Renfield and Herbert Lom as Van Helsing.

Anyway, I recently bought the Blu-ray of 1941 so I'll probably watch that along with The Devil Rides Out in tribute.  Maybe add Horror Express and City of The Dead to the marathon.

The Devil Rides Out is one of my favorites. Based on the Dennis Wheatley novel…A good read and a surprisingly good movie…Too bad about Ornette Coleman yesterday too… I had no idea he was 85… Rough year for losing icons so far, musical and otherwise…

Wow. I loved that. Thanks for sharing. I remain an unabashed classic horror film fanatic. The holy trinity of that genre, in my most humble opinion: Lee, Cushing and Price.

I actually got to meet Vincent in 1973. He was larger than life to me, and incredibly gracious. Man...they just don`t make them like that any more.

I have an older friend who wrote a horror novel that he self-published.  He actually knocked on Vincent Price's door one day to give him a copy of his book.  Vincent, of course, had never heard of my friend.  Most people would be a bit impatient with a total stranger ringing the door bell without calling first.  Vincent, true to form, was incredibly kind and gracious.  He was a true gentleman.

Vincent Price is one of the reasons actors should be very careful about doing advertising. He was in all sorts of terrific films like 'Laura' and had an unforgettable voice, but the first time I saw him was in an advert for pickled onions, of all things, and that's the first thing I think of when his name comes up.
