Monsanto is the Devil.  Round Up ready Gmo Corn needs, I think the scientific term is, a shitload more chemicals than non GMO

I agree, TL. This is an example of where science gets bought. Don't get me wrong. Though a lot of the evidence coming in for GMOs, in general, is positive, proper longitudinal studies have not been done on the long term effects on us and the environment...but it may be too late to stop this train now, anyway. Once a superior gene is out in the wild nature will take it's course.  ;)

ROUND UP IS NOT A PESTICIDE. IT IS A HERBACIDE.
He explained earlier that in his world or definition: "Pesticide" includes herbicides, pesticides, fungicides, insecticides, etc.
https://www.niehs.nih.gov/health/topics/agents/pesticides/
"A pesticide is any substance used to kill, repel, or control certain forms of plant or animal life that are considered to be pests. Pesticides include herbicides for destroying weeds and other unwanted vegetation, insecticides for controlling a wide variety of insects, fungicides used to prevent the growth of molds and mildew, disinfectants for preventing the spread of bacteria, and compounds used to control mice and rats. "

Dear Gravity, I'm listening, but if I start posting my reactions to this guest, MV will ban me.

Missed that. Thanks.

I think, like everything, there are gray-areas. There is a big fundamental difference between animal husbandry and crop experimentation coming up with 'tougher' or better products and mixing genetically between species. And likewise with the vaccines, chemicals in AG, etc. There are cost-risk analysis and differences between the difference vaccines, chemicals, etc.
Remember ADM etc. Yet this guy says there aren't people in offices conspiring??!

I think he's going for an ends justify the means sort of thing. A lot scientists are these days, unfortunately. Definite agenda pushing going on here.  ;)

Are you still here PrairieGhost?

Dr. Wouter Basson. Took me about 3 seconds to think of a way genetic engineering could hurt people.

Controlling the world's food supply must surely have a political angle.  Trying to stay open minded.

starrmtn001

He doesn't believe JFK was assassinated?  Okay.  I'm totally with you now Doc!

Dr. MD MD

For the record I'm not really against GMO experimentation. I think we should keep looking into it and perhaps even utilize it to a greater degree...but we should proceed cautiously...scientifically.  ;)

Yeah. I think science, chemistry, medicine etc has brought us great things. But this doesn't mean all new discoveries or advancements are good, or won't turn out to be mistakes. And especially when we start getting into things about blending species and manipulating crops to have be sterile etc and cross-pollination stuff. Likewise, with vaccines and other medicine even. Cost-benefit anaylsis. What is the real threat for cost and contraindications and efficacy etc (we don't have the TB vaccine on our schedule in the US, UK, and most European countries anymore, for example.)

gabrielle

I know, how about non profit GMO produce.   Wonder if that would fly?

Corn is in everything. Including cobs in the asses of unlucky victims...

Hey what about this guy. Guys in 'high offices' price fixing for high fructose corn syrup also!
No conspiracy here.  :o
http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2004-06-19/business/0406190182_1_lysine-and-citric-acid-mark-whitacre-corn-syrup
ADM was accused of fixing prices by colluding with other makers of high-fructose corn syrup, a sweetener used instead of sugar in many beverages and foods.

G. Allen Andreas, chairman and chief executive of ADM, said in a statement late Thursday that if the companies suing ADM prevailed in court, they could win up to $4.8 billion in compensation.

"In light of the potential exposure inherent in litigation," Andreas said, ADM decided to settle.

There was some compelling evidence against ADM.

"Our competitors are our friends," an ADM executive is quoted as saying in appeals court documents. "Our customers are the enemy."

Don't get me started on potatoes in tailpipes.

Well, he thinks equivalent at the point of eating it. I say more sugar beets because I got some family up there on the farm and the sugar subsidies are pretty crazy.
