I've had "Kobe-style" beef before, and it was very impressive. I am sure true Kobe beef tastes different, but, does it taste better? Arguable.

It certainly costs a lot more.

Nowadays, Matsuzaka beef rates better than Kobe beef in Japan.

I can't justify the expense, but this is the new rage at the high end steak houses in Texas..they have built up a herd by importing animals from Japan.

Yeah, it may be possible to "travel" into the future in the sense of the scenario portrayed in The Planet of the Apes because of relativity but you could never get back to your present timeline again. You could only pound your fists into the sand and scream, "You maniacs! You really did it! You blew it all up! Damn you!! Damn you all to hell!!!"  :P

The academic position is that one could travel backward in time to your starting point in spacetime if you could move faster than light, but that doesn't appear to hold up under scrutiny.  That causality paradox is the largest theoretical hurdle to warp field propulsion, so it's a crucial issue for FTL travel.

I had many, many steaks in Australia that I found just eh ok that they thought was great.

I figured it was because I'm from Texas.

Paulides ever address it?

Good question.

This is a good podcast on the incident

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1MbOhCacS5c

By the way, the translation of the area they were found dead is "Don't Go There".  And the translation of the name of the Mountain itself is "Dead Mountain".

The indigenous Mansi tribe in the area has stories of weird phenomenon in the area throughout history.  Lights, craft, etc.

The book to read is called The Light of Other Days.

I have to agree. I had Matsuzaka beef a couple of times, and I liked it better than Kobe beef. But right now I'd "settle" for a nice Kobe beef steak.  ;)

I was told that kobe beef cows were not allowed to be imported out of Japan.

No clue if this is true.

JamesMcDonald

I like Kobe beef but it's too expensive.

Having said that, if you want a cheap burger you can always buy at McDonald's and eat a hamburger that contains the meat from over 100 cows.  Yum.

Dr. MD MD

OK, I'm finally weighing in on this beef deal. The best I've had was grass-fed, organically raised beef with no hormones or antibiotics used. It was expensive but damn was it good!  :P

hearing this reminds of that ufo guy that art blasted for not talking about this incident

Not true.

The big change occurred â€" at least on paper â€" on August 27, 2012, when the USDA updated its rules to allow the importation of Japanese beef, including Kobe, albeit in very small amounts.

That looks fascinating - and it does look to me like viewing past events is allowed but changing them isn't.  I rarely read fiction anymore though; there's still about 100 lifetimes worth to learn about hard physics, and the biologists are slacking on my immortality formula...

Kind of an interesting read: http://www.forbes.com/sites/larryolmsted/2012/04/12/foods-biggest-scam-the-great-kobe-beef-lie/

It was only recently the genuine article could be had in the US, in Japanese-ran restaurants in places like NYC or Las Vegas.

The ones in Texas have an interesting history. If you search for it, they used off-duty Texas Rangers to guard the herd to maintain the integrity of the genetics and protect against theft. I guess this is like using Delta Force to guard an Air Force base. LOL

Thanks for the info. I was told this in 2009 by a chef I was living with who knew everything in the world there was to know.

Bill gets the facts wrong pretty often. A good story teller, not a good reporter of facts.
