Except that Sanders claimed the missile was underwater launched in the case of TWA 800.
.

I didn't catch that. I missed a lot of the beginning of the show. Where's the video they speak of?

It could have been, at the time, a classified system, perhaps another reason the Navy didn't want to cop to their screw-up?

Nope, I asked my buddy that question.  There has never been an underwater launchable SAM on a USN sub.

Agreed...planes have been flying with empty tanks forever...why was this the first accident attributed to an empty tank?
I am not sure if you can ignite most jet fuel. The USAF has some fuel, one JP7 for the SR-71 would pit out a cigerette if it was dropped into it. The flammable stuff are the fumes, the vapors. I think if i remember correctly the tanks on the 747 had moved the fuel to get proper weight distribution for its flight. The bare wires, which the insulation that was blamed, wore off and a spark was created and ignited the vapors which have oxygen in the empty area of the tank,  the spark causes the first blast and that heat and fire then is intense enough to explode the remain wet fuel which is very similar to kerosene. That's what I  rememer from this case conclusion. Those FAA crash investigators do not seem like the kind of guys that would lie or go along with a cover up. They are serious dudes .

QuoteThe IDAS system is also the world's first missile which gives submarines the capability to engage air threats whilst submerged, and the first tube-launched missile that does not emerge in a capsule, but is fired directly from the torpedo tubes.

QuoteA prototype of the IDAS missile system performed its maiden flight from an underwater test facility in Northern Germany in 2006. It was successfully launched from the German Navy's class 212A submarine in the Baltic Sea in 2008.

So this is supposed to be secret, undisclosed 1996 technology?

On Art's site, and on page 2 or 3 on this thread.

Someone in the YouTube comments claims that video is a launch from Vandenberg Air Force Base.  Can anyone here confirm or deny that?
You know it does look like a multi stage rocket!!! Could have been off the Fla coast too. Like I said before, what was the guy filming in the empty sky!

How is the video "absolutely devastating"?

Yeah, I agree.  Where is the proof this video is what they say it is?

Note that there is no description of the video on YouTube.  It was posted by Bill's wife Nancy Hayfield Birnes and the title is "2015-08-18 video".

Ergo, they are not even making a firm statement as to the legitimacy of the video.  Interesting, isn't it?

Agree or disagree with the conclusions, I'm glued to the radio tonight (actually a TV streaming Tunein).

I'm 10 pages behind. Who was the reporter that covered it and kept reporting it was a missile?
He wrote a column about mob stuff.

Has to be Jerry Capeci...

Another poor substitute for JC.

Then again, I'm all for blaming Bill Clinton for all sorts of things.  El Nino, orange groves frosting, TWA 800, whatever.

"The New JC" auditions...

Sounded like Jesse Ventura.

Whoa this caller can be the new left wing version of JC!

I was in the Navy. I also worked in the Combat Information Center.  If they were in the middle of exercises as I believe they were, then everyone onboard ship would be at General Quarters. NO ONE would be on the deck of the ships. NO ONE.  All doors would be absolutely closed. Only very few people would ever have known anything about a missile launch, and far fewer would know it hit a plane.  The only exception to this might be an aircraft carrier. Every other ship I have been on is locked down with no one on deck in those situations.
Called scuttlebutt.
