3. The universe we live in is a simulation because it's near statistically impossible that we are living in the original universe.

We're now dealing with this: A technologically mature civilization would have enormous computing power. Based on this empirical fact, the simulation argument shows that at least one of the following propositions is true:

1. All civilizations in the universe destroy themselves before they build a computer sufficiently capable of simulating a universe.

2. All civilizations in the universe choose not to create such a simulation.

3. The universe we live in is a simulation because it's near statistically impossible that we are living in the original universe.

CERN probably won't help, but studying the behavior of cosmic rays might:

We're in a new world on this question.

Yup, and the The Fermi Paradox fits right in there.

This is one truly terrifyingly existential proposition.

Mindfuck Saucy moment for the day: If it is a simulation, that implies that the universe was programmed. That means that "The Creator" may well have programmed all religions into the universe from the start, therefore all religions are valid.

Honestly, I haven't read it, but that's no reason we can't go over it again.

And perhaps what we consider the paranormal, are just bugs.

Great show to listen to while I'm camping in the mountains of Arizona! I'm watching the skies!

And I didn't read past "God Emperor", but that doesn't mean I won't have an opinion on it.   :D

Possibly so. And maybe we do have afterlives in such a simulation.

If you think you see something in the sky .... slam a beer and go to sleep.

Great show! Loved hearing from Travis again.
Another Art Bell's MITD homerun!

Now, anxiously awaiting that "time traveler" message. :)

Good show tonight. Going to be a long weekend.

Hoagie time!

Art thanks for another great show.  Very cool to have Travis on as a surprise guest.  Interesting to hear a follow-up on his experience all these years later.  Can't wait to see what's coming next on MITD.
