There is a correlation. Religions tend to form up according to the times. They fill a gap in the culture in which they originate. You can see that with Christianity and the problems of Judaism in the early first century but also occupation by the Romans. You also see it with LDS and the burned-over-district in New York. Also Scientology and L. Ron Hubbard. If you wish to found a religion, so long as what you present is relevant to the times, you can do it. And you can make a fortune doing it. So long as you catch the right time and the right vibe. Science fiction appears to accidentally catch and tap into that phenomenon somehow.
We have the cult of the Aliens will save us and the cult of the Aliens will take over our planet

In recent history the Raelians, Galactic Federation of Light and Ashtar Command seem to have followings in the tens of thousands. Mostly folks looking for Star Trek and new thought style hope mixed together.

No worries, give it 15 and McKay will call in. That will mollify us.

Done and done. But he seems to be trying to cause trouble again even in the most pathetic ways
He may have toned it down, but he's still firing shots.

i wonder if she was naked, the guest has pictures of his wife showing boobs in random pics lol

Hoagie has a good thing with Robin.  Why would he mess that up?

I'm really surprised Hoaxie hasn't made any comments about what Art wrote.  "They" must have really chewed him out.

Yeah, if you sell it right, you can get fanatical followers that will dump money on you. That's why people like this guest create churches, even though that concept has more to do with Christianity than ancient paganism. A living can be made from snowing people. But, if we were able to channel Robert Heinlein, he'd beat this guy's ass for trashing his hard science fiction ideas.
