Marc, you are free to your opinion, and mine is no more legit than yours. But, I saw it play out was this way.
RCH disses SR and a bunch of bellgabbers cancelled. Only after we quit did he raise this issue of bandwidth. Suggesting that maybe we actually got our point across and the numbers reflected it, and hurt. Only since then has this been an issue. But hey, that is just how I see it and it damn sure don't make it true.
Maybe you missed my posts showing the RCH and OSOM stickers I personally had made up and was running on my truck. Check my history, I as was most of us on this thread, a RCH supporter. We didn't get off of his hook, he cut the line.
Peace,
Salt

In general, he might provide some shows that are interesting and entertaining.  I think we can be a little forgiving and just enjoy the parts that are worthwhile.  Despite his faults, he is one of the best weird science and paranormal hosts out there.  Besides Art, RCH is the only host in this area I can listen to.  Listeners will do things according to their own assessments, I just think that he's worth a little time, effort and money to listen to.  Art gives us three hours, which is not nearly enough.  RCH provides a chance to add on a few more interesting hours.

but thats just it..since Scott took over...there has not been an interesting show...his science is faulty at best and he hasnt covered anything remotely paranomral(he may have..i have a bad memory)..at best he is a conspiracy nutter

The context of his "useless eater" comment was a reference to listeners who are asleep, but still connected to the live show.  If I ran a show with variable expenses I think I would be concerned about the cost of bandwidth used to entertain sleeping listeners too. :)

Its all in the data. RCH's infamous model that can predict everything from location of arcologies and the result of presidential elections should have predicted that.

If he hadn't have lost a large percentage of his subscriber base in October, whom were the ones paying for the free air play, according to the advertised business model, this wouldn't be a concern.

There are other business models he can choose if he wants to guarantee that only true devotees that hang on his every word are listening until the end, and paying for that privilege.

I think the fact that was divulged about having Keith experiment with dropping connections on purpose to see if people are listening or asleep says loads about the mindset of the host. If you are going to advertise free streaming, which is paid for by loyal subscribers, then you shouldn't alienate the paid subscribers.

The advantage to having a time slot that follows Art Bell is that you will have a large number of people staying tuned in. The disadvantage to having a time slot that follows Art Bell is that you will have a large number of people staying tuned in.

I fall asleep a lot during MITD. Art has never complained about me falling asleep. As a matter of fact, one of Art's biggest complaint with Sirius XM was that the stream would stop unless it was refreshed. People couldn't record his shows unattended. He gets it. RCH sees it differently.

He is a conspiracy nutter.  Even worse, he's made a career of being a radio show guest who is a conspiracy nutter.  I think he will find his place and, like Art Bell, it will reflect his interests in weird science, paranormal, conspiracies and other off-base stuff.  Pick out what you like and ignore the rest.  That is what I do with what Art serves up.

I loved the War Of The Worlds show 10/30.  77th anniversary, dark stormy night, lots of reminiscing -- right up my alley.  Know I'm in the minority on that one.

I'll be sorry to see him go as there's nothing else like it, nor will any successor come close.  Can't think of him as Uncle Hoagie telling bedtime stories any more, though.

That brings up an interesting point:  how the hell can he tell whether a listener is asleep?  Keith runs programming after him, so it's not like anybody still on at 2:05 AM Pacific is asleep.

It seems like useless, speculative caviling to me.  I take it as a sign the end is near.

He had Keith run another set of "experiments" by disconnecting the active streams. Computers would not reconnect. Smatphones and tablets using the TuneIn app would automatically reconnect. Smart phone users using the pop up player would probably not reconnect.

Poor business practice if you ask me. If you want the traffic that follows Art's show, then you shouldn't bitch aboutvthe traffic that follows Art's show. It should just be a cost of doing business, factored into the business model.

Ah thank you, that explains it!  I wondered why I've had a few interruptions; thought it was just me.

An obvious omission made on Dick's part was Amanda's long history of being a psychic numerologist.  She even tried to get it mentioned more but he breezed over it wanting to get to the dirty parts....

Oh man it could have been even worse .. or wait, is that better? ... never mind.

Exactly.

Fact probably is that if RCH simply said Mea Culpa, we might be able to do a reset. But he takes no responsibility for his actions, nor their consequences.
That's the beauty of Mea Culpa, once said and meant, you kind of have to give the person a break since he has admitted the fuck up.

Many a shockjock or radio host has gained audience by insults or condescension.  Some last, some not. Some are satirical, some maybe believe it. Angry, outraged listeners are still listeners. Of course certain tv personalities were experts this method, but has long history throughout history in many media, debates, rhetoric, etc.

My personal favorite is the SHOCK & JOCK show.

I have had multiple disconnections of Dick's feed when my internet connection had been up. I have never had such an interruption of Art's feed. It was irritating before I knew the cause. Now that I do it is infuriating.

I commented on these stream interruptions somewhere up-thread. It's obnoxious and a despicable mistreatment of his listeners. Thanks, Dick!

Exactly, if you recall the first hour was kind of bumpy as they felt each other out, then wham! Awesomeness!
Art can interview a brick and get it to open up in time for callers!!.

I had thought, at first, it was just buffering issues with TuneIn. Then the Big Dick actually explained how they ran this "test" as if it was a positive thing. He can keep his bandwidth. If he somehow turns this whole suckfest around and starts having shows I am interested in, I will become a subscriber fir a month and have access once again to all past shows. I supported him through a subscription, but having just checked my PodCast library from July through November 8th, there were onky three shows I have gone back and listened to portions of. So I was funding his bandwidth and never actually listening to the archives.

I won't know if the shows are interesting unless the Bell Gabbers convince me the show has become at least as good as MITD because he has lost me as a listener. And I am pissed about it because I had loads of fun in this thread with a good group of regular listeners. We had fun for awhile. A season of cutting up and clowning around. Say Levee.

Okay, y'all. Here's a true except of the program we've been discussing edited only to eliminate unrelated preceding and following program. There are no edits intra-clip.

I believe this is Fair Use.

Make certain they have badges and show them when they come to my door. ;)

Your blood will really boil after you've listened to the whole 9ish minutes.

Man, I wish you didn't post that clip.  Listening to it a second time just brings back the awful emotions I felt on Friday.
