The Other Side of Midnight - Richard C. Hoagland - Live Chat Thread

Started by cosmic hobo, June 24, 2015, 08:00:52 PM

Astroguy did the best versus Hoagland I have heard yet.
No wonder Hoagland won't debate in a moderated fashion.

Wouldn't all audio become the property of DMDN, your voice included, regardless of any local state laws?

I'm thinking of something like MV's disclaimer in the Bellgab rules:  "Forfeiture of Intellectual Property Rights:  All user posts and attachments immediately become the property of BellGab.com."
Actually I think it is: "Forfeiture of Intellectual Property Rights: All user posts, attachments, their first born male child, and their VERY SOULS immediately become the property of BellGab.com"

Just to be clear.

He would have been great on Art's show instead of Stanton.

If anyone wants the audio of me, here it is.  13.5 minutes.  Maybe if I'd gotten a full question out we could've gone to 19.5 minutes.  Colorado is a single-party consent state, so I can post this without worrying about fair use issues with DMDR.
Too bad you didn't call into Art's show tonight... he could have used you. I think Stanton was fighting insomnia or something.

It seems Richard likes mixing it up on the air, so I'm not surprised he found their talk fascinating.

I hope he isn't afraid to have guests on that don't tow the 'enterprise mission' party line.
Allowing callers to state their case without jumping all over them might be a good idea.
It probably discourages some callers from calling into the show if they think Richard will step all over them while they talk.
Hearing multiple sides of the argument is what makes it interesting.

If the radio show literally turns into the "Richard C. Hoagland" show I think it will miss out on a lot of potential and growth.

At least RCH is passionate. Hoagland is also improving as a host. I think he more than willing to have people on with opposing views.  Either way RCH is already infinitely better than noorie.

Maybe, but they won't be allowed to express them, if last night was any example

Noory was entertaining to listen to for awhile due to the unintentional comedy and the overall awfulness of the show, then one day he wasn't - and that timeline varied from person to person.  Hoagie is no different.

I just wish Art Bell was forced to listen to the ass-clowns he chooses for these slots, he might make better choices

That'd be one thing he has on you. But he wasn't.

How do you know Art doesn't listen? Hoagland has been hosting a show 2.5 weeks, I think he has improved a lot in that time.

I'd love to call RCH in but I feel like I don't know his theories well enough to formulate a cogent question.

This might be a dumb question but has RCH ever addressed WHO built all these monuments on other planets? Does he just leave it at "aliens"? Is it a specific "breed" (like the Greys)? Human ancestors? Does he believe in UFOs?

Illegal aliens.  Doing work other aliens won't do.

Hoagland is obviously never going to use my submission for his "Fan art gallery" so I'll post it here.

Hi all, I *SO* wanted to see if the first ringer was me...  I let it ring for about 18 seconds and 12 seconds later the "shouldn't be calling" comment (along with that beautiful piezo ring) came on.

I was pre-occupied and wasn't able to participate in the thread.

I could hear RCH for a bit, then I too got pre-occupied for that as well. :-)

Call him back as Robert from Wisconsin.
You can't complain that I used your name if you're the one who told me to use it. :)

There was no audio disclaimer or anything, it was calling a number and someone picked up and I was having a discussion with an elderly gentleman.  I was his caller, apparently.  So, while I'm not some law-talking guy, I would think you'd need that disclaimer somewhere for it to hold any weight.

And I wasn't?  I didn't listen to Art's show, I was watching old Dr. Who episodes while making a control network for Mercury's Rembrandt basin area.

I e-mailed Hoagey. He was going to figure it out anyway. He said Astroguy is welcome to call in and that he is interested in having him as a guest. Hoalgand said he has no problem debating him, he also found their conversation fascinating.

I'd like to hear that debate.
I guess the cat is out of the bag, then, and I'll blog about this.  If Richard wants me as a guest, he can contact me.  I don't expect I'll be calling back again during open lines.  If you're in actual contact with him, then kindly recommend that if he wants to debate someone, then he needs to not be the host for that, there MUST be a moderator, because he is so passionate that he has demonstrated an inability to self-moderate and keep himself on-topic and to a time limit.  Use that term "passionate," there's no reason to be insulting or use other adjectives that some people would rather prefer.

I would love to hear you debate the Hoagland. But, as you point out there would simply have to be a moderator. You did a superb job repeating the question and pointing out that Hoagland was not addressing it. Jeremy Paxman would have been proud.

For moderator may I suggest Art Bell himself. he's the only one I know who can reign in Hoagland when he goes spaz.

That would work for me, though I know that they are friends, but at least there'd be something.  Hell, I'm willing to let Dave do it, so long as there's someone who is willing to at least try.

He's just saving us time since he already knows opposing views are wrong.

He'll just point out the Young's Modulus:density ratio and act like that's the key property.

I have written a lengthy blog post about my call-in this morning.  I think it's pretty fair, if not generous.

Don't come crying to us about being tired if you won't go to bed.  ;D

I haven't listened to the audio yet, but I'm sure you did us proud Stuart. Or is that Robert from the Zuggerat in Datahead city, apartment 19.5, Mars? Ish.

I just read your whole blog post, it was very thoughtful and powerfully to the point. Will have to subscribe to that blog.

From one skeptic to another I give you 5 Carl Sagans out of 5.  ;)

I figured Hoagland would want to have astroguy on the show as his real self.
