So, Cam, do you still own a turntable or did you just purchase the Phantasm vinyl as a collector's item?  I miss some aspects of the good 'ol turntable.  The smell of fresh vinyl, the hiss and soft click of the needle, and the warm sounds emanating from that disc of plastic.  I've thought about getting a turntable and picking-up some albums but, that's all I need.  One more addictive distraction sucking me and my dollars into oblivion.

I bought this album somewhat on impulse, being a well established Phantasm nut and because I thought $25 was a bargain for such an unusual item.  I can't seem to roll out of bed for less than a grand these days. What's another twenty-five?

To the horror of many collectors, I would have no qualms about playing the hell out of it.

However, I would think twice to even open it if I had been one of the lucky ones who got the Mausoleum Marble vinyl. There were only 500 of those pressed. Those were solid investments and will jump in price now. If I had secured the Marble version, I would have probably been compelled to buy the black and red, too, as a playable copy, and leave the white pristine.

Unsure how many of the red and black swirls are going to be released. If it turns out that they are extremely limited as well, mine might go unplayed in case I wish to resell.

I do not own a turntable at this time. Similar to what Albemuth and you are saying, I can easily see myself easing back into it. Over the years, I've given away most of the vinyl I had, so do I really want to jump back in?

I think this is a worthwhile pursuit, especially as the concert generation's ears deteriorate. My son just set up a turntable and speakers into an old amp and it took maybe five minutes for him. Then, a new $9 rubber band for the turntable and it's now amazing to go back to the sonic play that an album laid out for you in two sides, maybe 4.

Album art and words. If you're more stoic than hedonist, you can pledge to digitize as much of this artform and spread it on the internet as you can. Cost: cheap to free.

My favorite haunt for Lunar Lander also had Ms. Pacman.  Along with tasty subs and pitchers of beer.  Long since closed. 

IO if you can find a way send us back in time I'll buy the first pitcher, and PBS is invited of course.  I hope some of these are there too: Moon Patrol, Rastan, Food Fight, Spy Hunter, or Donkey Kong Jr.

With the recent conversation about "Carnival of Souls" elsewhere on BG, I happened to stumble upon a DVD of it today at a cheap price.  I was actually looking for "Phantasm," but no luck in the used DVD department.  I can't believe I don't already have it.

Anywho, as the sun sets and twilight creeps upon me, I'll be checking out Ms. Hilligoss again soon, along with a cold one.  A pre-pre Halloween warm-up.

Yeah turns out time machine parts are pretty pricey, so traded it on craigslist for this sweet retro-van complete with shag carpets and those sweet 8-track sounds.

In terms of video games, besides the standard (yes, the new chip so you get so many old games on it) standup unit in the game room. I still find pleasure in the Vectrex system, although I am missing the plastic overlays, the games are still good. And, although I haven't bought any, apparently programmers are still making or modifying games for it? And, believe it or not, kids still like it.

I really dig old advertising stuff. Retro signage, labels, movie posters etc etc. They had an eye for detail that you just don't see anymore. ItsOver mentioned old movie theaters. The old marquees in front of some of them looked cool. So did the signs in drive in theaters. Old hotel signs are pretty neat as well.

I tried to find a shot of the neon sign from my old Lunar Lander haunt but no luck.  It was one of those early 60s Jetson-like space age signs.  Real eye-candy at night.    So many things today just look so generically bland to my eyes.  Signs, cars, etc.

Oh, yeah.  The perfect selection.  Another one of my top horror flicks.  I actually drove the route in Florida where they filmed the opening chase sequence, not too far from Ocala.  Yes, I'm weird.

Ah, so you missed out on the faux wood finish.

I remember my neighbours were all set up with those LP sized laserdiscs.  They were media hounds and had each room in the house wired and networked with a television, which was rare in those days (it was kind of a status symbol to have more than one television).
