Yeah, it's like the crowd that used to gather for the patent-medicine man.  You know he's a fraud, but will give a good show.  Half the fun is watching him dance to the hecklers, the other half is seeing which of your neighbors will buy.

K_Dubb,  appreciate your posts on the "Predator" pic!  Your calm, concise analysis of what the picture was, how it was created, was enjoyable and informative.

"Predator" aside, Knapp and Paulides were a great combination, again.  The cases Paulides brings up, like the Aaron Hedges/Crazy Mountain account, are both intriguing and disturbing.  His boots and camelback were in one location, his bow and backpack about 15 miles away, on the other side of a mountain range.  How He could have made it over the mountains, in difficult country, with snow falling, and no  boots is a legitimate mystery.

Thanks!  I don't know about concise; I'm sure that's the most I've ever written hahaha

Paulides's stories creep me out like nothing else on here, mostly cuz they have at least one foot in reality.  Not sure how much they'd stand up to any kind of scrutiny.  If he can be so easily fooled, maybe best to think of him as a collector of creepy stories than any kind of investigator.  I'm ok with that.

Perhaps you should email Paulides regarding your theory behind the picture and ask him what he thinks of it.  He will respond.  He responded to me.

I will say this. Dr. Bruce Maccabee is a photographic expert and knows a hoax when he sees it.  If he is flummoxed by the picture, then my guess is your armchair quarterback theory won't hold water. I say this respectfully.

The main reason I won't is because I don't want to cause any trouble between the Maccabees hahaha.  In the good Dr's analysis, he treats the smaller, anomalous file size of the entity picture as yet one more inexplicable thing about it.  I say cropping is self-evident, by far a much easier explanation.  This tells me he's not thinking critically at all.  Probably trusts his wife, poor guy.

As for your faith in the kind of experts who are cited in this business, I will say this:  it may be misplaced.  I say this respectfully.

I agree, which is why I bet Maccabee's wife is playing a joke on him.  Why the obvious convenient cropping didn't occur to him is a mystery.  He has all the data.

But wouldn't that equate to her killing the goose that continues to lay the golden egg?  Dr Maccabee is the go to guy for all the UFO TV programs and other media when photo analysis is needed.  Between those gigs, his books, speaking engagements etc, I'm sure he makes a good income to supplement his retirement.  If he's discredited, even as result of a joke, she feels the economic impact.

Haha that is dangerously close to arguing that just because someone has an economic interest in asserting that a thing is true, it must be true.  You could just as easily argue that she was drumming up business.  Her connection to the field is the single most suspicious thing about it.

My guess is it's an impulsive joke that has gotten out of hand.  Carried away by her husband's evident enthusiasm, and now by the publishing, she finds it impossible to confess.  People do stuff like that all the time without envisioning the worst possible outcome, i. e. discrediting him professionally.

Why didn't she confess when she saw it getting out of hand?  Well, she has already fooled the acknowledged expert in the field.  Who else does she have to worry about?

I still think you should tell Paulides and see how he responds.  I have a feeling the Maccabee marriage is strong enough to overcome the hurdle this might create.  It is all well and good to talk about it here as nobody here can really dispute your theory.   Your explanation sounds logical to me but I would like to hear what Paulides and Maccabee think about it.

I have no feeling whatever for the state of their marriage; Lord knows where you got yours from.  You guys can see the same images and Maccabee's analysis that I'm basing my theory on, so you can dispute my theory all you want.  I think a discussion forum about the show is the proper place for this sort of thing, and I won't take it further as I have no axe to grind with Paulides or the Maccabees.  I just saw something funny and pointed it out.

Okey-doke.  Perhaps I was harsh but still I'd like people who contradict others to talk to the guests face to face.  It would be doing a service to the audience plus it would be fascinating.  To me, anyway.  I'm sorry if I vented out on you as you by no means deserve the brunt of my criticism.  I just gets a bit frustrated listening to armchair quarterbacks who won't take the guests on.

Am I irritable today or what?  :-[ :P

Nothing personal at all, man. :D ;)

I get what you're saying.  You want a resolution.  I guess for me there isn't any drama cuz I assume it's fake anyway; it's just so rare that I can see how they did it.  Plus, there's the intriguing suggestion of a wife deceiving her husband, which is fun to imagine.  To Mr. Maccabee's credit, his analysis lays it all out there, even the weird size of the entity pic that makes the method obvious.  He could easily have left that unspecified.

The only drama for me is what went on between Mr. and Mrs., and our chances of learning that are virtually nil.

Uncle Duke

I know nothing about photo analysis, so I've declined to comment on the alleged doctoring of the photographs.  I do know Dr Maccabee is a rarity in ufology, one of few recognized authorities in a specific technical field using that expertise to further his efforts in UFO research.  I can't imagine him being part of a joke/hoax, just doesn't seem to fit his demeanor.  He has looked at/analyzed hundreds, maybe thousands, of photographs; I can't believe he could be taken in by what has been described here as relatively simple, low tech processes and techniques.  From what I read, he never defined or identified what his wife claimed to have seen,  he simply analyzed the photos and reported his findings.  Paulides found the report, keyed in on her "Predator" analogy to describe the visual distortion she claimed to have experienced,  and turned the episode into yet another of his innuendoes to support his pet project.

Quite possibly. Another thing that doesn't ring true is when she texted "something is wrong" when she was aware that silence fell over the forest all at once . That does happen frequently in the forest, like every hour or so, sometimes less.

Unless, of course, she felt something else was wrong besides the silence.

'Allo!
with you yet am i.
missed most of this show, fadeing ground wave reception, local station behind hill now.
pondering Paulides, and familiar with Mr.Maccabee's work i am.
I would compare the subjective experience the lady describes to a number of accounts regarding the 'crack-between-the-worlds' kind of fairy twilight state.
Maybe you should look at an horror story about the Ommith/Amizda/whats-it/horla,"The wood where no bird sang".
Author's name escapes me,but probably early Blackwood's magazine.
Describes this well.
An almost-as-good reference is engl.tr.of Ossendowski's"Gods,Men,and Beasts"(?)where he qvotes some ancient steppes-mongolian peasants whom label this the receptive state broadcast from the "King of the World"in Shambala or equivalent.
All these folk struggled to put in-to words an ineffable felt experience.
It's easy to sit in one's comfortable arm-chair by the fire and belittle or dismiss this.

Interesting references, Beelz, and I think such experiences do happen even if rare and/or unexplained.

Cropping is pretty elementary technology.  From all appearances, he was simply unaware you could crop on the phone, and analyzed the images as you might a roll of film straight from a camera -- a faithful record of what was before the lens.  After all, it was in his wife's custody the whole time hahaha

Mrs. Maccabee seems like quite a character.  I hope she gets a good, private chuckle.

Yeah, I'm interested in the subject so I'll check those references out. Maybe you missed my posts about being in the forest and hearing everything go silent about once an hour, usually less. It seems like a natural occurrence. It is so obvious because once the noise starts up again it seems really loud. They cover the entire mountainside. It's like the insects are either listening for something or trying not to be heard. Maybe it's something else. I don't know. I'm no entomologist but I would bet there is a good reason for them going silent all of the sudden which is based in our physical world.
Now, if she had see mammals such as deer running away that would a different story.

I think K_Dubb put the story to rest as a hoax quite well.

I wish Knapp was doing a show on the Steven ("Making a Murderer") Avery case updates--co-defendant's conviction overturned for coerced confession; plus possible new dna evidence/new trial for Avery.

Somebody (who?) is talking about it tonight on. c2c.
