Bring back the Recent Posts feature!!1

Kinda funny it forces you to browse all the sections and topics at bellgab. Without the recent posts it's as though they all just disapear into the abyss. Who knew there were so many sections and topics. Best part is now I don't have to see a screen full of crap I mean falkie posts. That alone makes the new BellGab an improvement. Bravo.

thank you.

You are loved you know MV; it just seems to you that sometimes you're not. I mean that in a very human and platonic-ish sorta way.

The ladies of course love you more, but that's natural.

No need to explain.  I'm very comfortable with the idea of British homosexuality.

I realize I'm in the minority, I've never used the "recent posts" option. I've always used the "unread topics" and "unread replies". Recent posts doesn't necessarily equate to interesting posts.

Ditto.

gnooryblows

you are all wrong, it was better with the recent posts option

Ha!  Concur!
I used it all the time, but I think I can adjust.  That's women for ya!   ;)

I have never liked the idea of having to log in, in order to see the unread topics/replies.  Therefore I have never used the function.  I could always  orientate myself within the forum very well through the recent posts.  I get it,  there is still a link,  there,  but now it shows the posts,  which makes me scroll,  scroll and scroll in order to find out what's going on.  I am not interested in certain people's posts,  so I don't want them to be displayed.  What I liked about the recent posts was that you could quickly - without logging in - find your favorite poster and their posts.  I never had a problem ignoring people like Falkie.

This sums up my feelings perfectly.  Since the "recent posts" feature was deleted, I've all but abandoned the site simply because I don't have the time or interest to scroll repeatedly.  A topic or thread might catch my attention on occasion, but I can see my participation on BellGab shrinking to the point of total abandonment.  I have to think there are others besides "Imcomfused" and me who feel the same way.  If the goal of the deletion was to lessen the effect of serial idiots and metaposters like Falkie, in my mind it will actually increase their effect as fewer
credible members will stay engaged here.

I am a middle-aged white male and fear change. Bring back the Recent Posts feature.

Just fucking with you MV. Happy New Year!

But seriously bring it back already.

Totally agree.  Bring it back please.

I propose we have a non violent sit in and only post in this thread until the recent posts are reinstated. Also boycott all the advertisers on this site. Sure it might only damage the mail order Asian bride industry but it's a risk we must take.

I understand the "logic" behind taking it down, as well as the possible site problems mitigated by its removal, but the bottom line is that the recent posts feature provided an immediate guide to site activity and a unique snapshot of currently active threads.  Nothing else replaces that.  What we are left with is a tedious set of "work-arounds" that do not provide the same level of immediacy, efficiency and ease to navigate the site.  This isn't a critique of the admin's decision, just an objective appraisal of the change.  By the way, this is probably the 3rd or 4th time since 2009 that this has been taken down and then replaced.

Are you forgetting about TaintCo?  I will NOT boycott them.  They helped my butthurt before,  and I believe they will help me again.  Which I'm gonna need,  reading this topic.

An elegant solution for a site about a radio show that no longer exists. Other things to remove--the site search and the members list.

Wasn't there someone that could just repeatedly be scapegoated and banned this time?

While we're at it let's take away the reply and quote functions.

Just dump the login feature, you'll kill more birds with one stone.

Sorry guys, but you are just going to have to learn how to navigate the site properly. The Recent Posts list adds no legitimate functionality in terms of navigating the forum, and it further strains the server by requiring it to display a bunch of sloppy, redundant information every time the main page of the form is loaded.

Furthermore, I am sick and tired of listening to people complain about the forum being "taken over" by this thread or that thread, and those complaints are coming entirely from people who use that stupid list to find their way around.

I have yet to hear one detailed or convincing explanation as to why the recent posts feature is needed or why it's better than the method I've outlined in the first post of this thread. You guys who want it back... did you even read that post? Specifically explain to me how a list of only the last 30 posts is superior to Unread Topics. If you don't visit the forum for a couple days, do you just miss everything but the last 30 posts?

Specifically explain to me what makes the Recent Posts list more efficient than Unread Topics.

you have to LOG IN.  you start to look like a 'gobmint' site.

you have to LOG IN.

This is probably the only reason it is necessary.

Having said that I was only fucking with you. Can you please delete this thread, all my posts and my account? This can be before or after you reinstate the recent posts feature. Thank you.

Marc.Knight

This sucks.  Almost as much as George Noory, but not quite.  Right or wrong, the recent posts feature provided an "immediate" heartbeat regarding the flow and timing of current activity.  The "right ways" to navigate just don't equal what is lost (from the perspective of a user, not an administrator, apparently).  But, we'll trudge on.

Please bring back the "recent post" feature. Please give the people the choice of using it and/or using the Unread topics feature. Choice is good and no choice is evil. MV please don't be like Obama and take away our choice of which feature that we like to use. Thank you for your time MV.
