I use (used) the recent posts feature all the time!  It's a very handy tool for quickly seeing what's happening.

   I do somewhat miss seing the word "Falkie" in roughly 87.3% of recent posts. I feel as if I've lost a testicle.

If not having it on the front page, have it somewhere?  I used it too, and not for falkie related stuff if that is the issue.   Not sure why it's gone, I can only assume it has something to do with the gabcast episode, which I missed.

The recent posts feature asked to be wound down; so MV obliged. It complained that it was sick of having to copy and paste 'Falkie' and felt redundant as a vital part of the forum. MV understood and although he tried to sit Recent posts feature down and persuade it to stay, it had made up it's mind to go. Just winding down people, there might be a ti....(cont pp94)

Last time it was removed because it was a strain on bandwidth.

It's not a necessary feature, but Unread Topics and Unanswered Replies aren't an ideal alternative. With that new posts list, you could reply to or read topics without losing track of them - they would remain listed. What's needed is a New Posts link. At least I think so...

It's just my own laziness, really.

By the way, you can still get the same recent posts list by clicking "View the most recent posts on the forum" in the forum stats section on the main page. But there's no reason to make the system display that every time the main page is loaded.

I realize I'm in the minority, I've never used the "recent posts" option. I've always used the "unread topics" and "unread replies". Recent posts doesn't necessarily equate to interesting posts.
