Great because I spent my last few dollars on shouting MV to dinner at The Olive Garden. He may be getting lucky tonight.

It's MV... odds?

Heather Wade

Thank you Eddie Dean for all your help.  Just wanting to make sure - I want 1/4 male to RCA male single jacks?  Or 1/4 male to RCA male red & white pair of jacks?  I know I need 4 of them.  Just making sure before I go out & get them tonight.

My pleasure!
The idea is to get
2 pairs of 1/4 male to rca male.
they make single cables  in this configuration like this:

and stereo pairs like this:

2 Pairs, or 4 singles. Which ever one you get will be fine.
Keep the receipt!

We might be able to get away with using only 1 set for this setup.
Or maybe none at all  See Below!
An extra set could very well be needed, either now, or in a few months when/if you upgrade to a mixer with better features (with mix minus capabilities).

BEFORE YOU SPEND MORE MONEY, TRY THIS FIRST:
If you can, before you get the cables try this quick test; ( maybe on your lunch break )
Power eveything up.   286s -  mixer  - 2i2 -  skype

- login to skype & goto audio setting - input output device

- change you output device in skype from the current device which should be {internal soundcard output}

- Change it to - the  focusrite 2i2 line outputs.    ( this should tell skype to make the output available at the 2i2 box) this should allow you to be able to monitor both your voice and the skype caller's voice from the 2i2 phone jack.

- Plug your new Sennheiser headphones 1/4 jack into the phone plug on the lower right of the front of the 2i2 .

- run the  skype audio test - or  call somebody

- You might need to adjust the little silver HP volume knob and the big sliver "Monitor" knob,,  to hear both ends of the call.

If this is successful and you can dial in a comfortable volume to moniror  both ends of the call,.
you won't need to buy these cables after work today.

Make sence?

I'll be available all day if you have questions or need help testing .    :)

Heather Wade

Yes, that makes sense.  I will try it today after my shift.  THANK YOU.

jazmunda

I've always thought that the labeling of cables as male and female was kinda dirty.

Heather Wade

Ok, that worked, but I think it's feeding back the output again.  I see a signal response on the 2i2 from the output.  I can hear myself, which is awesome, but I'd need to do a test call to know for sure if it's feeding back again.   ???

Make sure the direct monitor switch on the front of the 2i2 is off.....
I'm around if you want to test.

JAZ, just finishing up the clip for you. I'll post it soon..

You are a bloody legend. That's the highest complement an Aussie can give without hardcore swearing. Fucking Top Cunt is actually an honor akin to being knighted.

You're welcome!
I can be useful from  time to time!  ;)
I couldn't remove the music entirely, unfortunately, but I'm glad you like it.
I tried my entire bag of digital audio tricks and part of what I could remember about audio restoration techniques. to no avail.
It's a tall task for sure. fit for someone with more experience than I with this type of situation. I ended up using a basic processor called a fast acting noise gate to automatically  chop the music out during pauses, and a bit of EQ and expantion to slightly diminish the areas where he is speaking.  gobbledygook, I know. fwiw.
I'm kinda surprised it worked at all, even on a limited scale. It might sound fine if you have some music behind it in the trailer.

I do and you will get a special preview for your efforts.

Once again thank you. You didn't have to help out some guy on the other side of the world. Cheers. I owe you a beer one day.

I've almost finished but will hold off until next week. It's really cool.

eddie dean

I can run a Gabcast this week if thats cool with you MV.
Who's in?
also, what day works best for everyone?  Tuesday, Wednesday
I don't have a preference,  I can do whichever day is best for everyone.

If we do it Tuesday after the SS, we would start approx. 7pm pst/10pm est. (depending on the SS)
If it's Wed. we can start at 5pm pst or 6pm pst. whatever time is best for everyone.

What say ye gabcasters?

Either day is fine. I kind of like the 10p eastern.

Can we do a sound check early? I want to try my laptop at home with wifi. It worked from the hotel, but that was with my cheap headset.

Tuesday is good, starting at 7 allows me to eat & switch gears from work to GabCast.  Wednesday at 5:30 Pacific would be better, but not going to hold anyone to my schedule.  Can't wait to use the new headset!

jazmunda

I actually like the idea of following The Spec Sheet. It will also bolster the number of live listeners to The Spec Sheet making it a win win for that fledgling podcast. :P

eddie dean

Okay. Tuesday after the SS is the winner!

Onan; i'll be avaliable a few hours before the show Tues. I can be available later tonight or Monday evening, if you want help before tuesday. let  me know.

Redacted: people will be blown away by how good your new headset sounds!

Thanks!

The  back2back schedule dose seem to be helping both shows. Huge numbers for both last time!! It was fun to witness.
I was wrong in thinking it wouldn't help, I'll admit that!  :o

MV/Liberace!

If you guys wanna go Tuesday after the spec sheet that's cool, but we'd like to stick to our regular time of 8-10PM Eastern.

I'm pretty sure Eddie mentioned 10pm EST as our start time.

I really believe that you should defer to the higher rated program and should not be making such demands. I will be speaking to your supervisor. Know your place. :P
