GP's are about average £100000 p.a. I think. Nurses start on about 23000 I think, but the pay scale increases on their eventual specialism. They have nurse practitioners who can administer meds that formely were only permitted to be done by doctors.

I won't start on the piss heads.  Is it difficult to get good care when you need it then?  You lived with your ailing father.  Was he able to get everything he needed in the way of healthcare?  The way you have described him, he sounded like he didn't complain much.  But when he bacame very ill, was he cared for in the right manner?

I really would like to see a different system here in the U.S.  It seems we continually make the wrong moves, and never really address the actual problem, which is the outrageous insurance and healthcare costs.  My son had a surgery in June and the total cost was just under 90K.  He has special medical needs and will have to have more surgery.  Because of his needs, we keep the highest tier possible with our insurance and are out of pocket 1200.00/month plus having to meet deductibles.  Don't get me wrong, in the great scheme of things, we are very fortunate but I know so many people who are not.  Our system is completely broken. 

Then of course, there are the Falkie-types.
