I can say that a podcast becomes profitable with a small percentage of what a radio broadcast costs. I heard one host on SiriusXM, that got the boot, who started a live stream and seems to be making it work. And that host can't shine Bell's shoes.

I don't own a crystal ball that actually works. But I would guess, Art could make it work.

I am not tethered to his returning but I am certainly interested in that outcome.

I don't see the motivation to keep pissing on any potential of him returning. If one isn't interested in that, why keep posting?

A live streaming nightly program from artbell.com would be just as fun as Art ever was on terrestrial radio.

I hope that can be worked out, but, if not, I wish Art well & thanks for everything.

On the GabCast, Art sounded like he still had the fire for it, though.   8)

I don't know why everyone keeps saying that. I think the thread is quite healthy and definitely ready for at least another hundred pages.

Now, is it weird to put tabascoe sauce on spaghetti or not?

Oh. I and we just say that to poke fun at the low life.

I invite our friends in Louisana to tell us about the nutria rat.  That little rat from Down Under would soil himself if he saw a nutria heading his way.  This is one honkin'  big ass rat.
But they're vegitarian and tastes like rabbit. =3~

Let's assume, for argument's sake, Art is onboard with a legal battle to extricate himself from the confines of SXM's NC agreement.

And  let's assume, after some time, he is successful. What then? What are his options? A podcast? Streaming on his website? What's the consumer base going to be? Does anybody actually believe Art Bell, a man who once held millions of listeners on the edge of their seats, throughout the night, on hundreds of radio stations, will suddenly be content with, what amounts to, a  nightly podcast?

It just depends on the person, in this case Art Bell, and whether or not they really honestly and truly WANT to be back on "the air."  I myself couldn't and wouldn't want to do that, but I'm a different person and my financial needs are completely different from Art's. It can be considered as buying oneself a very expensive, but much desired toy or pastime.  I do the same for myself at times, but on a much different scale.  Makes life worth living.

On the other hand, if broadcasting at such a different level is not a pleasure, it won't last very long.

A quick word of encouragement from Mr. Thomas Paine (perhaps sponsored by C Crane):

“These are the times that try men's souls. The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of their country favorite radio show; but he that stands it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman. Tyranny, like hell, is not easily conquered; yet we have this consolation with us, that the harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph. What we obtain too cheap, we esteem too lightly: it is dearness only that gives everything its value.”

I'm in the mood to listen to something really creepy/scary.  Any ideas?

God I wish I could sleep. . .

Why does the nutria rat look like a lot like a beaver?

And can you put tobascoe sauce on one? If you can, should you?

These questions and more on the Art Bell Quits Dark Matter Thread. . .

I' ll take your word for it, but my only face-to-face with a nutria came in the immediate pre-dawn while doing my morning run at Barksdale.  He/she was coming up out of a storm drain and looked as big as a Buick to a guy who had too many tequilas just a few hours before.  I was much younger then.

If you want really creepy, I might suggest Coast to Coast AM with Dave Snoory.  ;D

Best to be prepared with something on hand to treat the inevitable nausea that will ensue from such an activity.

haha sorry guys, I meant like a past art bell episode or maybe something like a pseudopod episode.  Art might be out though, I think I've heard most of the freaky things.  I should have been clearer but I'm a little wrapped up in PS4 right now lol

I don't have any doubt that he could make it profitable. I only doubt his will to do it, and KEEP  doing it. History speaks to those that listen.

I don't view any of my posts as overtly negative; just being a realist. I see a lot of people - some new to the Art Bell magic - that didn't experience the OTHER  side of Art Bell. The seriel quitter.

For those of us that were Art Bell fans before Art was even cool, we have seen all this repeated time and time again. It's always something beyond his control, or somebody else's fault.

I belive there is a place on this board for folks that offer a bit of temperance to the otherwise overly inflated expectations.

I don't know if it's on a torrent somewhere but there's this one Art Bell interview where there's this engineer who called in claiming to see a nutria staring him down while he was hungover on tequila (the engineer, not the nutria) one morning. It was pretty frightening, even though the nutria is a vegetarian.

For Art

Steve Earle - Transcendental Blues

For me, there's only one thing to say musically about Dark Matter and the eventual return of Art.

This Could Be the Start of Something Big-Steve Allen, Steve Lawrence Eydie Gorme & Ann Sothern

Incredbile to hear all those talented people sing the song all the way through ( which isn't seen often ) and realize only Steve Lawrence is left.

SMOCK ! SMOCK !

Just think how the nutria felt to see this drunk engineer in front of him and to be confused when the next train was due.

2 minutes, 2 weeks,  6 weeks, 2 years.

Its so much better that we got some Art than NO Art.

And any of those times above are better than a 1,000 years of $noory.
