I'll admit that I don't know all the history and drama. I just listened to Art on the radio and loved his shows. When I heard he was coming to Sirius, I was thrilled, since I am already a subscriber anyway. After a few shows I realized how much I missed him on the radio, and it brought back many years of fond memories of driving through the darkness for work exploring the mysteries of the universe with a truly one of a kind host.

Then, just like that it was gone again. To me, that's all on Art. I truly think he has some self-destructive tendencies and acts in an impulsive manner. I also happen to fall into the camp that believes he realized that he didn't actually want to do this again full-time, and wanted to avoid looking like the bad guy.

Doesn't change the fact that I think he is an incredible broadcaster, but he is also a human being, and I think he makes some extremely hasty and ill advised decisions that unnecessarily cause drama (see this thread).

Sirius went after him because they wanted him. They built a studio in his house. They hyped his show (I even heard ads for it during Howard Stern's show). Then he quits 6 weeks in and makes them look like the bad guys. People act like Sirius fired him and now wants to conspire to keep him off the air. In my view he realized that the gig wasn't what he wanted (happens all the time) and found a way to make himself out to be the victim.

He didn't get enough calls but wants to do a podcast type show (which most people listen to on demand)? How does that make sense? Also, I listen to Sirius NFL radio a lot, and they have callers all day long.

As much as I love Art, I don't have a stupid button I can hit to make myself ignore the obvious.

Unbeliever.

Get a rope.

unknowing is a feeling some people are born without.

*golf clap*

If I'm right in the way I read the situation, I am a bit ticked at Art but I do understand. Sometimes we make decisions that we regret, and then we need to find a way out.

As soon as he started talking about spider bites, windstorms, streaming issues (I ONLY heard his show online live streaming), and his back I knew another end was coming, I just didn't see it coming so soon.

" They told me it came out a few months ago. And then I saw a notice that it came out in February. "

Ok, George. February comes about 3 months before November.

And she's clearing her throat.

Must have cought something from all those deer out in her por-uhl.

Sheesh.

I wish I knew how to live inside peoples walls... I am so not a ninja like that. First of all, every step I take trying to be syruptitious will end in me falling on my nose... since I'm sure I can't use lights. And I wouldn't leave behind candy wrappings. Maybe some manga, a sketchbook, a psVita, and a radio.

You have to admit though, those boys probably thought that finding that secret room was the coolest thing ever.

I'll also say that I haven't listened much to Coast to Coast since Art retired, and tonight I am giving it a try while doing some work in the office and it is nothing like I remember.....

But again, nobody is Art Bell except for Art Bell...

George Noory doesn't even seem as good as George Noory lol

I had some minor surgery.  Still groggy, I read the story of the man in the walls. I fell into a deep and troubled sleep, and had a nightmare.  In this nightmare, my house was totally different, with long dark hallways.  I got up and looked down the hallway, and there was a grey figure,  about two feet high.  His grayness was displacing the ambient darkness so I walked down the hall and put my hand on his head.  It was solid!

I ran back to my room, slammed the door, turned around and there were devil dolls wielding knives! (just like Trilogy of Terror).

They came at me and cut me extensively on the legs.

Finally, a big knife-wielding purple pillow-type demon appeared in the room.  He went straight to my laptop and destroyed it.

I screamed "That's it, I'm calling 911!"

Police arrived and didn't seem too alarmed at the scene.  They said "sorry, the hospital is full", and left.

I said to myself I can't stay in this house!  I'm going to the casino next door (for some reason there was a casino next door).

Standing in the entrance was Jerry Seinfeld.

Then I woke up with a start and checked my legs and my laptop.  That was a weird weird dream.

ART, WE NEED YOU!

the old bitch is going to die live on the air

Maybe she channeled the demon from the Exorcist and it now lives in her throat.

Jesus, George.

End the damn program.

I can't see Art ever doing this.

What a maroon.

And he just had to make an analogy between Shirley and the Twilight Zone.

This is pitiful.

WTF happened to Coast? I have been out of the loop for years now and wow has it gotten bad....

I have listened here and there since it came to Sirius and it has been bad, between the numbers lady who seemed to even put George to sleep, and this lady gagging on the air tonight blathering on about nonsense

She's allergic to $noorge.

llazy1

I checked just to see which host was on c2c.. they had shirley mcclain on and she was hacking up a lung.

Luna

I don't see a reason to be so rude about her. I'm sure she feels great feeling like that when she's supposed  to be interviewed.
:'(

is this a joke? This interview (and the numbers lady) are just pathetic. Can't blame this lady for being sick, but the numbers lady was literally so bad I thought it was a Stern prank caller talking to George.

I do think that someone raised a good point about the saturation of paranormal programming overall, especially over the past 5 years or so.

There are about 10 full-time ghost series (between ghost hunting shows and ghost story shows), a bigfoot series, Ancient Aliens, and Destination America is pretty much a monster/ghost channel 1/2 of the time. I'm sure I'm forgetting plenty.

In short, Coast used to be THE place to hear about this stuff. Now you can watch hours and hours of paranormal programming each week on cable. There is big $$ in this type of show, and I think Art Bell deserves a lot of credit for blazing that trail.

If $noorge had any sense, which he doesn't, he would have gone to a commercial break or something to give her a chance to recover rather than have her suffer the indignity of having the whole world hear her cough almost to death on the air.

We go from her coughing to radio gremlinz to regnerating teeth.

And people wonder why there's so much disdain and hatred of the $noore.

I remember reading a story a few years back about a guy that found an unused area in a newly built local mall.  There was some way to access this area from outside that was difficult to get to but didn't require using a normal entrance.  He and his buddies brought in a bunch of bricks and walled this area off from the rest of the mall and created their own living space inside it.  They had electricity, couches etc.  It took many months before the mall workers figured out what was going on.

Not sure what this type of thing is called but I find the urban exploration stuff on the web to be fascinating.

EDIT:  here's an article on it:

looks like the artist's original page is gone.  Apparently they got away with it for FOUR YEARS :D

Great description! I felt I was there with you. And, I wholeheartedly agree; it was such bliss to shut down the house, tuck myself into bed, and hear the opening music.

 snoorie sucks also  shittley

Falkie2013

I'm turning off the radio now and taking a break to pressure wash my ears and brain after listening to $noorge and Squirrely and to do MY video prep, which is probably thousands of times more time than $noory has ever done for his show.

Thanks Shirley for telling us that all these years of criticism of $noorge was due to limited thinking.

And to think all this time we just thought it was because George Noory Sucks.

They were doing it wrong if they only got away with it for a few months. I would have been really stealthy and paranoid... have you heard of the japanese guy who found out that a woman was living in his apartment for a year?

Say what you will about Howard Stern, but he is (along with Art) one of my all time favorite radio hosts. One thing that makes his interviews great is that he PREPARES like a madman for the interview. He routinely asks questions that the guest replies with "how did you know that?!" He commonly references passages and events from guest's books. It's obvious that he takes the interviews seriously.

When Art was in his prime he was the same way. To me, great radio is like being in the room listening to a really interesting conversation between thought provoking people. Sometimes it's funny, sometimes serious. But it's something that makes you wish you still had another hour on the road so that you could relax, enjoy, and listen.

To be kind, George's show is not that.

While the post and the argument is interesting, it is also a major generalization.  There have been many studies that point to the fact that money does buy happiness to a point.  You are correct that in general the sadder and poorer people do tend to dwell more on the negative aspects of life.  Until people have enough cash for stability this is true.  It is true of both those who would curse and a church going little old grandma who has never used a bad word in her life.

The fact is that the argument that somebody cursing automatically denotes poor breeding, lower class or poor manners falls flat on it's face.  If I go out with some old friends and ask that they clean up their language It would actually reflect very poorly on me.  it would be my attempting to impose my morals and values on them in an environment where I have no right to do so (work, funerals, job interviews and the likes would be an example where there is / can be some leeway for demanding certain behaviors.)  My demanding that they clean up their language while out for a beer would be a much more egregious breach of etiquette than dropping a few "F bombs" myself.

There is also a major distinction between people who lack the self discipline and awareness to tailor their language and behavior to suit their environment and those who can.  I avoid cursing at work (depending on who is around and the subject there is sometimes a little language used.)  In meetings and interacting with other departments I am the perfect gentleman.  When I am around my grandparents or my sisters twins I have yet to allow a curse escape.  When I am out for a beer with old friends... well, I'm certain that I may not pass as an alter boy.  Here at Bellgab the expectations that the owner and other posters have are closer to being out for a beer than attending a formal party...

Well your post makes a lot of sense, it does however overlook some of the problems with today's widely accepted use of crude language and behavior in public places. For example, some beaches and campgrounds have now become places to avoid for families with children.

MV can set whatever standards he wants, it's up to us individually to decide whether we want to participate. If he was foolish enough to have a vote on acceptable language standards, I'm wise enough to know that cursing would be approved....

So like the old saying goes. Edit....

When I meet someone who swears with every other word, I either find it repulsive, trashy, or indicative of an uneducated mind incapable of expressing anything other than the most basic thoughts or emotions...

People who tell the world "I'm trash!" are often taken at their word.
