I just found my old Secret Decoder Ring from the Cracker Jacks box. You don't want to know what this actually says.

I thought a polecat is the stripper.  Wait, that's polepu . . . never mind.

Excuse me if I seem a bit jaded... You see the liberals down here in Houston have passed an ordinance that makes it illegal for a mere citizen  to actually feed the homeless.  It is actually a law that is rigorously enforced. It seems that when private individuals take their own initiative, the homeless people don't actually show up to the city run shelters to get fed. The less that show up, means the less they get from the Federal government to feed the homeless. Yep, liberals have big hearts as long as government grants and bureaucrats get to decide who gets fed what, when and where.

As far as the condition of my soul, it is quite healthy actually.
I hope Serenity sees this and puts it on his Quotes page on his Web Site Alien Dreams. ;) :D

I don't pretend to follow politics on a local level in Texas. I don't know their motivation. But I do know this, there are many pressures upon any city politicos to resolve issues with the homeless. In the local politics in NC, in Henderson, NC Art Pope (go ahead, look him up. right wing nut ball with lots of money, buying political favors.) pressured the city to stop a yearly event to help buy books for children in preschool programs. It seems that one day a year interfered with one of his many stores doing business.

Back to the point, logistics is always important, and in today's world with today's money, food is a hard commodity to keep constantly available. I do know that several food banks have difficulty maintaining distribution when several other people want to help. No one is meaning harm but the divesting of food to several points with no coordination is a disservice to everyone. And it is really too bad that no matter what is done, the homeless are the ones that continue to suffer.

It is a very complicated problem, including mental illness, disenfranchisement, the economy, and the desire to make hunger and homelessness another political football.
Wow, Onan, this really touched my heart.  Now I have to shake all the rust off of my brain.  I need to use it to think for a minute.

You're not excused, Gravity, because at your age you should know better. If you cared so much about the matter you'd know that such laws Criminalizing the homeless are very common in this country. And their being criminalized is far worse than your being restrained, you who might be so good as to offer a sandwich on occasion, large man that you are, worse than your being criminalized for so-called "trying" to help (with a very small "h") -- just so we keep things in proper perspective here. Nice how you were so quick to blame Liberals or anyone else handy for your unconscious commentary.

It is convenient, isn't it, that the homeless have no constituency whatsoever in this or any other country wherein their denial of "personhood" allows people like yourself, who otherwise are probably nice enough, to craft such as a statement and analogy with complete immunity and impunity. Try doing the same with any other racial, cultural, or socio-economic group. You couldn't, couldn't get away with it. In fact, you'd probably catch yourself half-way in and reconsider your thoughts and your words -- if only to avoid public correction. That you didn't find it necessary, nor did it even "register" with you in this case, that maybe there was something a little unkind, insensitive, and inhuman (to be gentle about it) in your message, is the telling thing. It demonstrates that it is taken for granted today that the homeless are seen as being less than human, that they have no "Personhood", no rights, no claims. There is no Social Contract, Natural or/and/Inalienable Rights, no basic Human Rights, in a fundamentally Sociopathic society and World. "Teach your children Well" -- they used to say.

And no, as your reply further demenstrates, all is not well with the shape of your Heart. Deformations are plainly evident.

Did an Occupy protest just breakout here on BellGab?

What does this have to do with anything?

Not taking sides, but are there no poorhouses? Are there no workhouses? Someone named Charles once wrote that and I don't think it ever got a good answer.

I had my ego altered when I was a kitten, so I don't know what to tell you.

Grate Scott!

That is terrible.

To quote my veterinarian when I brought my newly adopted "three-month old" puppy home from the rescue shelter, after he declared the poor pup to be not much older than six weeks:

"That's criminal!"

An ego, nor a pup nor kitten should be altered so young!

And right on cue, another Petsmart ad shows up on the page. Don't know about dogs, but they're routinely doing kittens at three months now. I agree, it's not kosher. I waited till six months for my current feline.

Since Vet Google didn't give me an opinion that I could walk away and feel enlightened...  Do you (or anyone) think that a kitten being done too young could still lead to sexual development?

I've had cats before and this bunch (I get them in threes after leaving one home alone for a fly-out weekend, long story), the shelter fixed them young, are displaying their desire to kitty copulate with the lone female.  Wondering if they're even fixed, maybe the shelter wanted to save a buck...???  This is the first time in 30+ years...  My last trio all made it past 17 years, this group will outlive me, hope they make it as long.

My educated guess on your question is no, negative. Sometimes, the instinct and some of the behavior remains even though the equipment has been removed.

My concern about neutering too young is the effect on normal physiological development and the stress of surgery at a very young age. I don't know how the evidence would support my concerns, but vets are very cost and convenience-conscious these days. The old practice with neutering seemed to work fine.

pate

Doan know much about cats, nor would I throw one in a burlap sack into the river.

Three Months, Six Months, or Six Weeks old is a bit of a shifting paradigm for a kitten, pup or person.  Doncha thunk?
