When we were there, the design bureau we were visiting provided us with "fixers", can't remember the Russian expression.  We were told if we had any problems at all during our stay, just to let one of these guys know.  One of our group got into a situation with a merchant at something like a flea market on old Arbat St.  I wasn't there, but I was told the fixer whispered something in the merchant's ear, the man looked terrified, and immediately the issue was resolved.  We found out later these guys were former KGB and Spetsnaz operatives who were hired by Russian corporate types to ensure the happiness and well being of their western business associates while in country.
As I recall there was something called a "roof" that everyone needed, even down to a small level like some seamstress.  I forget the Russkie term but, basically, 'protection racket'. Communism and the associated black markets, corruption, sense of futility , etc ruined several generations...not killed. U think C2C or Alex Jones types have theories? Former Eastern Bloc is conspiracy-central- because theyve lived through so much conspiracy and crap. Doing business with these types leaves u wanting to wash. So much gray-markets n who-u-know and odd transport terms. But, then again, same with Greeks and Turks.

Lovely place they've got there. Mixed in with all the "Wonderful, intelligent, beautiful, and normal human beings" mentioned above, we have the fixers and their employers. Actually, I'm sure they are all wonderful people when they are not breaking each other's legs or paying for same. You just need to get to know them.

I think you're naïve if you don't believe western corporations looking to do business with big money foreign investors/customers provide similar "services".  Not as brute force in their approach, but they get things done when needed.

Having said that the women who can get out of Russia are often very educated and hot. Always made good secretaries etc. And they expect bad sexism etc so treat them right and good employee. And often others (customers or internal company 'rivals' assume good looking gal dumb. Can gain important info from them.)

I can't speak for what western corporations do in various places abroad, but I'm sure they do plenty that they wouldn't mess around with in the U.S. The difference between us and the Russians is not that our corporations have many more scruples than theirs, it's that we have better laws and better enforcement in our territory than they do in theirs.

"Not as brute force" makes a huge difference when you're the one who would otherwise have your leg broken or kneecapped. My criticism of Russia is not that its people are somehow inherently corrupt or bad, it's that their systems of government, over the centuries, have always encouraged the worst elements to prey on the innocent -- and to do it at will.

Does this make our society better than theirs? In a word, yes.

It's really beautiful when two people can come together as you and Ciardelo have. It's a bellgab miracle.

Anyone here hear Sticky The Garden Snail go crunch?  :'(

Sad story.

pate

Playing ketchup on the last few pages of Art news again.

My convo-looted synopsis is as follows:

Art is now looking to acquire a Russian bride?  The ASS firing shots outside the studio turned out to be a Russian "fixer" that Art employed to facilitate the acquisition of the new Russian bride.

The "M. Night Shama-lama-ding-dong plot-Twist(tm)" is that Art's discrete inquiries into acquiring a new wife has only served to cement the forth-coming split with his current wife.  The demands from his current wife that he get off the air and out from behind the radio microphone (the mike being his first and only "one true love") because of the imminent danger posed by the activities of the ASS/Russian Bride "fixer" have only served to strengthen what was initially an idle thought.

It was sort of like a relationship "feedback loop" caused by both internal and external factors, I speculate that this is all a direct result of attempting to calibrate the thyme-masheen he received from Madman Marcum.

I include this helpful youtube instructional video that may serve to illustrate what information I have gleaned from perusing the past few pages in the vast ever-expanding thrilling compendium known to most of us by the moniker "As The BellGab Turns":

Of course my reading of the last few pages could be a bit Khan-fused, Not Sure.

Has Art announced a fill in date on MITD yet?
He's waiting until HW reaches the asymptotic line of almost competent.  She's almost there.  Just a little longer.

Not personally. You'd have to ask Paladin that question. My guess is that they tend to mention stuff like this but very few, if any, have broad experience. Most guys aren't interested in other guy's equipment. It's a learning experience here, isn't it?

The Trump supporters on Art's facebook page are a special breed of stupid. I would post a screenshot if I could on this computer.

A bit more experience in that area, I'd imagine. But, you know, Marines are tenacious. Eventually, they will succeed in taking their objective. An island, a town, a date with some woman on the island or in the town, whatever.
