I want to be thirty again.
Lest I get baraged with some more insight into my diabolical anti-medicine, psychiatry stuff (which is, not true, but i digress), I must ask. Why the thirty?  Merle song? What, again, no psychobabble, is the best age; if one could. AND how much of that is wishful thinking and 'mis-remembering?' Forget whatever terms analysts might  use!

Claudius

So I may have missed it, but what is the speculation here as to why any radio station with any sense picked up Train Wreck In The Desert?

I assume Art just pulled some strings.

Dammit man! I've already booked some couch time n bought a bottle of scotch to make it to Monday. Really, as a professional,  you should not jest!  :D though, pondering it, it is an interesting question.  Maybe a common one for pros asking? Should be.

Before you drink the scotch or consult a shrink (and this being an election year), ask yourself: Am I better off now than I was (X)X years ago? Play with the Xs. It can be illuminating.

I just want good radio. Could careless about drama. Actually don't like this phenomena that everyone's life should be public and, oddly, the more weird or tragic, celebrated. Aldous, a good statement but considering RUSH and CIA and your association?  ;)  Mr.Fidget, yours is a cause that I would've hoped would be settled when Art 'came back' twice, hopefully thrice- it will be? Keep on fidgeting.
Thank you kindly. I should not have to spend my life explaining why I was publicly blacklisted by Mr. Bell. There must be a counter balance, he can't be allowed to bridle me unrepentant.

Hear this Bell, it will never go away until you pull your head out of the sand and un-blacklist me. You started it, you need to finish it. It is not too much to ask, bearing in mind the documented circumstances that occurred.

You know for years my requests were reasonable, and you did not respond. What would you do? Just take it? No, I don't think you would... you would fight like hell, and I've had to do just that since I hung up the phone with you in 1997. It costs you nothing, but a moment...

It already cost me more than a decade.

wtf, bro.

Yah. Though a bit cynical.  A bad thing. What me, everyone, should be doing (I'm admitted hypocrite,) is voting, or running even, on a local level. Serving on juries, and better where avaiable, grand juries. And "voting" with your money. I,wonder why, was nevee even summoned for my jury duty in Fed coiurf.

Uncle Duke

aldous--

I can appreciate you wanting to defend your friend.  Personally I found the posts about an inappropriate relationship between Art and Heather offensive, and as such I refused to comment on or perpetuate that line of discussion.   Further, I said from day one I thought "something" had happened that first night when Art interrupted his interview due to what became know as the "stalker".   The problem is the whole thing evolved into something of a three ring circus, with the bulk of the responsibility, at least to my mind, resting squarely on Art's shoulders.  He certainly did himself (and eventually Heather) no favors with his actions, the drama he has thrived on over his career came back to bite him in the ass.  Some of the posts here were over the top, but I think the bulk of them were honest comments by some very bright people.

Nobody asked, but I truly believe Art wanted out of this show.  The guests were abysmal, he constantly carped about sound quality, there were frequent streaming issues, and apparently he was getting grief on the domestic front.  He wanted a way out, he found/created that out, and the rest is history.  As for Heather, I wish her well.  I've never said a bad word about her, nor will I as I think she's working hard to make the best of a bad situation.

Mr. Fidget

I'm really not a big conspiracy guy, generally. However, in the case of my appearance(s) with Mr. Bell... I find his subsequent complete unwillingness to examine my proof(s), or say anything publicly to redress my grievance, to be "very convenient".

There are grand pablum masters who would prefer humanity not have any simple uniting technology they don't control and profit from.

Divide and conquer... time zone, area code, zipcode, country, ethnicity, size, language, gender, religion... my "simple little fidget" is the same to all. It is a manifestation of a consistent circular cyclical process, far more efficient than government itself. It provides a common "frame of reference" irrespective of all those "evolved divisions", for whoever experiences it... and that could did change the balance of power overnight.

I suspect "they" told him to ignore me.

*ding *ding *ding... Mr. Bell.

It's just a matter of time.

Y3k compliant!

Everyone’s entitled to their own speculation, but without so much as a tenuous thread of actual evidence to support it, that’s all it is.  He seemed to be enjoying himself.  He has said repeatedly that he had been enjoying himself.  I saw no indication that he was looking for “an out,” and the fact is â€" he wouldn’t have needed to invent one:  if he’d wanted to quit, he was free to do so, no “excuses” required.

As far as guests were concerned, it was a mixed bag, as it’s always been a mixed bag.  As far as the sound was concerned, he seemed to be thrilled with the quality of a great many of the Skype connections, as was I â€" crystal clarity that was almost jarringly good at times.  He never seemed that happy with the phone connections in the past.  And the streaming issues didn’t strike me as any worse than all of the weird dropped calls and such that he frequently contended with on C2C.  The only “grief on the domestic front” that I can recall was the talk with Airyn after the cops showed up and spooked their daughter.

So I don’t get this impulse to read more into it than what we’ve been told.  It seems to me that for most people, an unidentified creep lurking around his home is an unsatisfactory target for their frustration and outrage.  Apparently it’s more satisfying to focus the blame on Art; a target with a name, a face, and a history.

It looks simple and ugly to me:  Art was actually being fucked with by some creep, and since he’s not the daredevil type, he capitulated.  I think that most reasonable men in his position would’ve done the same.

Ok, so saying it was my last post was premature...

But what Saucy Rossy is saying is true and I feel a responsibility to clarify my "insider knowledge" at the risk of being labeled as a white knight. (As if I care) . . .

Well said Aldous, I'll roll one in your honor later.

ManiacMatt

I think Aldous would be a good host for MITD simply because he's an interesting person.  I don't know the guy, but from what I gather he's had a well experienced and unique life.

Seconded, but I think he should co-host with Heather.

She needs to stop trying to be Art Bell and start doing her own thing, a co-host would help with that.

Whoa, never occurred to me she was trying to emulate AB. Her wide breadth of experience in everything paranormal, not challenging guests, and seeing everything as always interesting was about the opposite of AB, TBO. Her attitude towards trolls is something to behold, too: she's acts like one here, but is indifferently cool and tolerant on the air. That is so boring. I imagine it is irritating for her, she never bites back, just takes it.

Aldous has always been entertaining and has his own talent, as the post clearly indicated. He should co-host indeed.

I meant no disrespect and of all the people here to displease, he would be at the bottom. I was following my own informed instincts and will say no more of it.

How about if they both went to BellGab or another podcast and hosted there? That might be a better fit for both of them and would leave MITD open for a worthy successor to Art or Art's return?

So Aldous thinks he is a expert on the Bells marraige because he spent a few hours with them. I enjoy Aldous's post. But I don't think an old hippies "judgement of chrachter" is going to go far on this board.

Heather an amateur radio host. Considering that, she does an excellent job.

read every word of AB's post.

He's the most intriguing person associated with this website.

I respect the fact he's defending his friend.

You're right, it's more like she's trying to emulate George Noory.  Right down to her feelings about "thuh haters."

Must be weird to go from tearing Art Bell's replacement a new asshole every night with us here on BellGab and being told by said replacement that we eat rats for dinner... to suddenly BEING Art Bell's replacement and whining about how us rat-eaters are just trying to be cool by being meanies.

I will say that Aldous Burbank is one of the nicest motherfuckers on the board and I have mucho respect fo his ass. I don't agree with him regarding his last post though, but I ain't mad at him either. One love.

In the current "limbo" state, Heather's the best option for MitD.  Because if they brought a seasoned pro in to host the show (although honestly I have no idea who that could be since experienced hosts already seem to be perfectly happy doing their own programs), that person isn't going to want to take over the show with a "but if Art wants to come back you'll have to step down" caveat.  Heather is the only host who would be thrilled to step aside if Art chose to return.

Frankly, if they could find some top gun to host, I think they should start a new show altogether which could run for the 2-3 hours before MitD, or in the same time slot on the weekends.  It would be nice to have an extra show to fill out the night, and it would provide a new income stream for the network, while keeping the door open for Art if he ever decides to return.

I think it would be good for Heather to have an occasional guest host from time to time - she'd probably enjoy a night off once in awhile, and it could give another emerging talent a chance to shine.  I'm bummed that it went sideways with bateman, because he seemed like a fun idea for a guest host on the show.

Why are you getting all defensive about this? If you were out patrolling Art's perimeter, we wouldn't be having these problems.

True.  My bad.
