Completely agree. I hate that because 'I am a woman' crap. It does us no favors. The better person, regardless of their gender, should get the job.

I dunno.  Women should be appreciated.  I particularly like when a woman wears high heels, nylons (not pantyhose) a short skirt that shows off her thighs, push up bra (because she's a woman after all) a well fitted blouse....

Because she IS woman and I want to hear her roar as she throws back her head.

About the job.  Was there anybody else to take over?  Really?  I dunno.  But how many professional hosts other than backshooting Jimmy Chooch would drop their own show to host, indefinitely, someone else's show?  Bateman?  He has his own thing.  Cover on occasion?  I'm guessing he could if he wanted to.  Could he do it on a short notice emergency basis?  I think I've heard other hosts step in short notice to C2C.  *shrug*

But yeah, 'Because I'm a woman' does mean something to me.  Maybe not the same thing to you.

It seemed to me like the implication was that someone "in charge" told her to find a male replacement. 

So while this was all coming to a head, Art posts a picture from the Bellagio and starts going off about trolls on FB. A vast majority of the callers on Friday were calling from Vegas as Art was logged into Bellgab (because surely there isn't anything better to do in Las Vegas).  I have no idea what it all means and I am not privy to the same inside baseball others around here are but something seems beyond bizarre about all this (obviously) and the civil wars popping up all of the sudden.

I feel for Pete. Selling Heather would have been an extremely hard sell and the thanks he gets for admirably selling for Art and then trying to salvage the sinking ship by bringing in a capable host that he can sell is to get fired. Isn't this Keith's network? Where are his balls? Shouldn't he be doing the hiring and firing. I guess Keith just wants this all to end too. Who can blame him. This venture is all but toast.

In all fairness I think Heather took the first punch implying that Bateman was afraid of doing a live show or whatever, it was not a flattering comment. Bateman simply said he quit DMDN. I could be wrong though. I think Heather is just under an insane amount of stress and took it out on the wrong person (like Art did with MV).

Everyone is human and humans freakout sometimes under stress. No reason to make a whole thing of it.

I’ll probably get relegated to Turbo AIDS Homeless Mode for pointing this out, but it looks to me like bateman fired the first shot when he simultaneously announced that he’s leaving the DMDN â€"and- turned down Heather’s job.

I’m no expert on professional conduct, but if I had even a whim of respect for someone in Heather’s position, I wouldn’t blurt out on a public forum that I had been offered and rejected her job:

I tried to hook up the livestream a couple hours ago, but being the tech retard I am, I couldn't get it to work. On a happy note, I just wrapped up with Zoltan Istvan, presidential candidate running on the Transhumanism Party ticket. Great, wide-ranging discussion on the implications of rapid technological advancement that will force us to redefine what it means to be human, sooner rather than later.

On another note: I've parted ways with DMDN. This was after a week of very careful consideration of an offer to fill in on MITD. My concerns piled up over the course of the week and I decided it was in my best interest to step away.

Another show is being taped tomorrow - may actually be live if I can get the stream to work, so that'll be a show with calls and everything.

Monday night I called Steve and asked him to host the show that night, he stammered, repeatedly asked me if I was asking him to do the show that night.  He said his phone was in a precarious position, and had to call me back.  I waited for him to call me back for a few minutes, and he did not.  I called him back, and he was even more nonplussed.  I asked him again if he would host, faced with the reality of hosting a live show, he wouldn't do it.  However, that was not the official offer.

The official offer that was given to Steve was to do Dark City live last night as a test.  He agreed to do that, then the night before, declined.  By the way, there is no "livestream" to hook up, all he has to do is call Keith on Skype and do the show.  He wouldn't.

I think that both of those posts were terrible lapses in judgment, but it sure looks to me like bateman threw down the gauntlet.

This was not a who should do it comment, as it was a comment on using your gender as a possibility for why someone is better or worse at something than someone else. I know that's vague as hell.

The point is moot, they were looking for other options. That has all come out now. Regardless of what the reasons were that has to suck. I mean how do you do your job when you know they don't want you anymore? That is not an enviable position.

The stalker issue, real or contrived, is the vehicle that Art used to withdraw from the air.
The resolution of that is paramount to Art's return or not.
There is of course the time frame constraint that comes into play if the stalker issue is not resolved.
I'm unclear if it was 30 days or ? before some plug is pulled or reconfigured.

I know Heather is a big girl.  But some really heavy shit has been dumped on her.  And unless you are living the MITD life you really don't know shit.  Most of us are on the outside looking in.  *shrug*  Maybe I'm all wet.  Call me a white knight if you want, but I'm a paladin, and not a very shiny one, at that.

I don't think you're wet. I think the main problem with all of this is that most of her advocates have greatly underestimated how hard it is to do that sort of show. Trying to keep these topics fresh is a hell of an ask, and I don't think Art really pulled it off this time round. Throw into the mix the fact that you have never done it before, and no wonder you are heading for the skids. A pleasant voice isn't enough. No doubt Art was pretty mediocre when he began, but improved over time to become what he was. It's amazing to me that Art took the decision he did to throw in a total novice and expect an indulgent reaction from the audience. That is truly mind-boggling. Sure, the reactions have been over the top, but it could have been handled so much better.

I think the basic problem is that Art really doesn't have much in the way of guts, and when he is faced with a difficult situation his instinctive reaction is to fold his tents and run away. He also tends to be rather dishonest when backed into corner, I suspect. Instead of backing his judgement about Heather all those months ago, he dumps her like a hot brick after one poorly received show. A decent man would have backed her (and his own instincts), and given her a chance to prove herself. But, no, he gives in. Whether you believe this 'stalker' thing, he has given in once again to pressure. And he has put Heather in as a lightning rod to absorb a lot of the heat that is rightly down to him.

I don't know that it was such an irresistible temptation to take that gig. I wouldn't do something that I knew I was unfit to perform. Unless there are things we don't know about, it was almost certainly never going to last for long, and Art's little contributions, where he dangled the carrot that he might come back, seemed very transparent. I don't think anyone deserved abuse, but it's perfectly acceptable to admit that something isn't very good.

I would take the 'man' to take the job to mean simply someone who had the background and ability to take it on. A man is needed, not a boy. People want a good show, if they don't get one they are entitled to say so. You don't get a prize for merely showing up. Can you get more fucking hysterical? She is not stepping into an 'exploding volcano'. For fuck's sake, innumerable people take genuine risks every day in the line of work, doing a radio show does not get anywhere near to that.

How many of us here would have the stones to grab the mic and face the searing hostility following Art's sudden departure, on air live  five nights a week, with the world's lowest forms of slime simultaneously trolling here and the open lines? Merely considering it makes my skin crawl.  I'm amazed that anyone in her position made it a month without ending up in a straight jacket.  If I were in that position, and the bosses I was torching my sanity for didn't thank their lucky stars to my courage and resilience throughout this wicked shit storm, I'd probably go Full Metal Jacket on every poor fucker who stumbled into my sights.

My DMDN subscriptions cancelled a while back.  I'm sure I'm not the only one.  I would subscribe or donate to a "hoagie" show, but not sure I would do so as long as he's on the DMDN.  If he lands up with his own podcast, then I probably will, as long as he keeps a live thread here at bellgab.  I like to giggle.

I'm still for giving Art a pass. Granted, his behaviors of late are hard to understand. Explaining the reasons could only be done by Art, and his attempt to do so has been... bewildering.

So now, what? In some sense of fairness, does the GNS thread get stripped because there had been a long standing appreciation and desire for Art to continue? Sorry, but the two persons are not the same and the reason for contempt is different as well.

If the premise is, anyone that slighted noory can no longer hold Art in better standing, I would disagree. My dislike of noory was nurtured for more than two years of poor performance. Over the next several years other issues arose, including stealing of guests and sending "trolls" here.

We have learned Art doesn't wear a halo. Maybe that falls more on us than him.
