Let's keep the positive vibe in here. Favorite Art Bell Show of all time?
Mine is still the Area 51 call in show. Even with that call being fake he still got knocked off the air. Good times. I think I've come to realize it is the time of my life I associate with those times as well. I was working afternoons, and just stumbled upon it. I remembered hearing it as a teen too a few times and it scared the hell of out me.

I think I miss the professionalism of radio in today's podcasts. It used to mean something to either be a degreed engineer or had gone to broadcasting school, or doing your time in various DJing chairs and finally landing in talk radio. With any person being able to broadcast the quality sucks.

I sound old, I'll just get my walker now.  :D

Great question PBS :)

I can't choose just one.

If I did, I would have to choose John Lear with Bob Lazar 1992 and/or when he presents his "disclosure statement...actually all the John Lear appearances.

Right up there though is Mel's Hole and Jonathan Reed. That to me what was "wanna take a ride" was all about. ;)

Actually I have just started to listen to a Lear interview from early 2015.

Will put it up if some of you are interested:

Maybe I'm too old, but I can't get into the new music; it seems to drain my energy. I'm happy listening to the 'old' stuff. I do find a new song that I like every now and then- but it's rare when that happens.

+1 ...me too.

This apparently is a new one (just heard it on the radio and immediately had to come hear and drop it, I consider it my dooty):

Pretty groovy for the musical wasteland we all inhabit nowadays in my opinion...

(Apologies if someone else already posted this up)

Culturally fractured is a good way to put it. Niche-y might be another way. The same thing has happened to the TV industry. You do see some evidence of quality and real talent emerging, but the trend is that marketing caters to an increasing diverse and divided audience and these two drivers feed on each other. In this environment, it's hard to imagine another golden age for music like the 1960s and the British Invasion.

True.  Broad appeal across cultures is almost impossible now.  My point is that this paradigm makes almost all music fit into "indie" categories, without diverse appeal.

Love how he still teases that he might be open to come back, even though he knows it is now too late with nearly all affiliates being gone and DMDN under collapse.

Little bit early - I figured it would be a few weeks yet.

No, he's had some time away from the show. He probably IS thinking things out.

I'd be thrilled with one night a week. Well worth the $5.00 just for that.

Art is who he is. Accept it and you'll feel better.

Hmmm.

"While I try and figure things out".  I wonder what he is figuring out?

My advice? - assuming this isn't just him yanking strings again, I think a limited schedule, one or two nights a week, or even several random shows a month would be something he could stick with, and that the fans wouldn't be immediately suspicious of.  If that were the case, someone else should pick most of the guests and topics - the once a week / once a month shows he did from the Philippines got pretty repetitive when they were limited to mostly consciousness, afterlife, and new age type topics.

If he wanted to stop for awhile, or for good, just say so.  And stop bringing up all the situations that might cause him to quit again.  Either keep doing the show or don't, enough with the constant drama.

Even this FaceBook post is BS.  After all that's gone on, he ought to just wait until he's ready to announce he's going to start doing shows again.

That is what he should have done from the moment he decided to "retire" again. Then just maybe that would keep at least some of the affiliates and advertisers happy and then maybe Heather and the show/network would have had a chance.
But now that nearly all affiliates are gone, large portion of subscribers and ad revenue he would have to start nearly from scratch.
Since so much damage has been done even if he came back fulltime I am not sure he would get that many affiliates back after he burned that last bridge.

Not that I think he will be back.. I think this is just another tease just to fool current subscribers into renewing just in the hope that he comes back. I hope I am wrong, but I really doubt that...

I'd bet that AB is willing and able to keep DMRN afloat financially for awhile.
Maybe if enough affiliates drop the program, Art will be willing to return, and just do, as Dave said, his "little internet show".
So, we must help Art if we want him back, I propose another blitz.
Phone and email affiliates across the country and ask the program directors to please drop MITD.
C'mon folks, we did it once, we can do it again.
A new blitz, " Drop MITD"
