I think the moderators of this site must share some blame for Art leaving. I saw a lot of truly gutter-level stuff just allowed to sit in these discussion groups without being removed. It can't be that big a job to respond to reports of libelous nonsense promptly.

Oh, and while we're on the moderators, could you reset it so that we don't get locked for several minutes out of reporting steaming pile messages after we report one?

Didn't you read bellNwhistle's quote taken from Art's facebook page.  Art reads many of our posts.  He even expressly stated in this case that he read the offending post.  This isn't rocket science.

The fact is, Art has always looked on his fans as an extended circle of friends.  If you don't see that you're an idiot.  Why else would you think he would post here and on FB to keep us up to date on everything?

And he's been going through hell lately, which he's also made abundantly clear.  So naturally he reached out here and on FB for some tenuous sense of support.

Imagine the disappointment of counting on people like you and rekcuf and the shit ton of pricks who post here, for a glimmer of human decency.

Yeah, I got it. He read the crap in question. He reads many posts and many pieces of crap because of all those reasons you mention. My point is, it's crap. It's obviously crap and designed to be crap for the purpose of being crap. Most of us have learned to know crap when we see it, smell it, or happen to step in it. We try to avoid it. And we're generally successful, even when it happens to be on a web page we're reading. Am I getting through over there, wherever you are, Basil? Signed, an Art Bell fan, like it or not.

You have been here long enough now to know there is only MV who moderates, and he doesn't look at the site every day because life gets in the way.

Check the George Noory sucks thread some time. Heather was an active Noory hater for example. She has absolutely no moral high ground to stand on. None of Bellgab does. That is the entire point.

Hmmm...How about some context though. Noory IS really, REALLY stupid and worthy of making fun of. Hoaxy too! I was willing to give him the benefit of all my doubt but he just kept getting more egocentric and the show got worse as a result. What did Art do? He had some trouble and wanted some downtime to figure it out. All things or hosts aren't equal. Art is one of the greats and Noory just is not. So, rather than attack this site couldn't you just start an Art Bell Sucks forum on 4chan?

. . . it finally dawned on me who posted the final straw that broke Art’s spirit today (although many share the blame), and I think this mfer should be called out.  It was this post by the delightful bellNwhistle that rang a bell:

Art must have read this post by the illiterate scumbag using the handle “stargazr1976”: . . .

It seems that niether bellNwhistle, nor Art, nor you Chronaut, read nor understood what the drunken stargazr1976 was saying last night during his flurry of posts in the MITD with H Wade thread (from 12:28am to 2:18am). MV was standing right there half the time and actually conversing with him, and Heather too was dropping in to post once an hour till 5 am.

Stargazr1976 was trying to tell Heather what the guys on 4chan were saying about her (the status quo _on_ 4chan and other boards) and he was also saying that refusing to provide a photo was a little silly for pro Radio personalities to try to pull or enforce.

I hadn't even heard of 4chan until very recently and I don't agree with a lot/ most of what DS says; but she's right on this point. There have been things said about Noory that if even a 1/10 of which were said about AB, would incur the wrath of the disciples and calls for crucifixions and stonings of the heretics.

Yeah...sure...I get it. ISIS doesn't like it when people make fun of Muhammad either.

Was so excited when Art came back and was doing well. MITD was a part of the day I could always count on to be a fun escape, no matter how the rest had gone. But the drama, the effective end of the show, the fallout, and the amount of time and emotion I've spent watching and hoping against the collapse of something that was once a (short lived) joy is depressing. At some point, the product became secondary to the shit behind the scenes, and the whole thing has become an exhausting obligation. All the many listeners who have paid little attention to the backstage stuff must be so goddam mystified. I wish, now, that I'd stayed away from the backstage. It enhanced the experience, briefly. Now I feel chained to it till the ship disappears under the water.

Why someone like Art Bell... with a family, money, success, plenty of supporters, and a solid legacy... gives a rat's ass about what a bunch of anonymous strangers thinks is something I'll probably never understand. There was no social media in the nineties, and things went far better then than now, for him. Why does he even LOOK here, let alone interact? I can't imagine wasting the time and effort, in his position. As much as I love him, and despite the fact that I'll always be one of the people standing by, no matter how many returns he makes, I doubt I'll ever again look any closer at things, or engage beyond simply listening to the show. This has been like pulling back the curtain hiding the Wizard of Oz, and in the future, I'd just rather not.

Oh C'mon Dr. Surely you're not suggesting AB is above reproach? Noory may be a crap broadcaster, but the fact remains he has a show, isn't flouncing off anytime soon, and someone somewhere who is providing the capital knows this. What favours has AB done for himself?

Remember all this shit now being unfairly heaped on Heather re: the show, has come about since he flounced off under the premise of a stalker that a)  he has no interest in finding and b) the police have no evidence existed other than a verbal statement from AB who doesn't want to make a formal statement. What does that tell you? Bear in mind he's said that his family is terrified!

Perfect analogy. It's a similar mindset with some of the more evangelical.

I'll grant you all that but it still doesn't make me want to suffer Noory anymore as a result. No one is beyond reproach but I'll take AB over Noory any day. Don't get me wrong. Heather hasn't won me over yet. I think she has to get more inside her own head for that to happen and right now she still seems a little too self-conscious. I want a host who will challenge their guest sometimes and ask some interesting follow-up questions or at least the obvious ones that we might all be thinking. Art, on his better nights, was this host. I'd just like to see him back on the air again. It would satiate my craving for quality radio.  ;)

... This show was supposed to be fun for him.  I thought this forum was here to support that.   >:(

Well, then he should have stuck with it this time.  Seriously.  To me, after the waiting and the build up, it looks like he bailed once too often and rather than buy into his drama this time people just said screw it.

It was supposed to be fun for the listeners too.

Rekcuf is more the gruff but lovable type rather than a prick. He just seems that way at first, unlike Noory who seems stupid at first and then still is later  ;)

Thanks fam.  :)  Judging a poster and their intent is difficult when you're new. Our first interaction (TYT thread I believe) was a bit rocky, but we figured it out.

And another thing, Chronaut. I've seen way more than a "glimmer of human decency" in the last week, supposedly the nastiest week in BellGab's notorious history. And not just from the certified cheerleaders, but more convincingly from posters who have been critical while at the same time trying to be sympathetic and helpful. Wipe some of those crap posts off your glasses.

Who knew this thread would be more entertaining than the actual show? -_-

I won't say I knew, but I had the feeling it would be so. That's one reason I signed up as soon as Art left.

Art, I'm sorry to see you go under such stressful circumstances.  The pathological trolls attacking you here and elsewhere must lead sad and empty lives.  There is no other explanation as to why they would spend such an inordinate--even obsessive--amount of time and energy away from their own lives, to criticize yours.

You came out of retirement for MITD, which I consider a bonus to your long and successful radio career.  I hope the stalker situation is resolved soon and that you can relax and enjoy some time off.

And then...if you find yourself absolutely unable to stay away from the mic, an occasional pre-recorded Dreamland-style podcast would likely be welcomed and appreciated by your many listeners.

I saw this Mutual Broadcasting announcement on another site, and was reminded that Art had early on mentioned that there might be a problem with paying for the bumper music after the first of 2016.  Can't help but wonder ...  :-\

"12/18/2015 - Today I come to you with this message with a heavy heart as I must announce today that Mutual will cease all production and broadcasts at the end of the year.  Our final broadcast will be 12/31/2015.  The network is on replay mode from now until December 23rd.  Dark Thirty News will have a special live broadcast on that day.  I will join in to discuss some aspects of this decision at that point.  There will be additional broadcasts the week of the 28th, and then its over.  One of the big issues right now is the music licensing.  That rates are set to go up astronomically in January.  We were already struggling with how we were going to handle the old rates.  The new rates simply make this impossible.  2016 will bring a mass exodus of internet streaming radio stations because its simply too expensive to play the music.  Something like 55% of the gross income would go to music licensing.  Even though the music is only a tiny portion of the overall content of the show.  I'm sorry that leaves little left over to work with.   I understand we are talk radio primarily, but the music bumpers and segues are a very important element.  Not 55% worth of course.  But they make the laws - we dont see it financially viable to work under the 2016 model.

The good news: Jeremy intends to continue Dark Thirty Radio as a solo program.  Jeremy is going to attempt to do this with Royalty free music.  I do hope that it works for him.  The links to listen may change - so watch this page for that information.  Listen 12/23 for more details on the future of Dark Thirty Radio."

Well said.  I have similar mixed feelings.  I'm ready to let it go at this point though.  (Note I'm talking about Art's MITD.  Heather's MITD is a different show in my mind, and that story is still being written.)
