Half the comments here do not have anything to do with Art Bell.  My comment right now has nothing to do with Art Bell, the same as your comment above has nothing to do with Art Bell, too.  If you are going to self appoint yourself moderator, at least be fair and don't just pick on one person.  Other than that, you post excellent comments.  Just don't be a bully!

Apologies....truly. I didn't mean to center you out. I posted what I did because there were previous comments asking to knock the politics off in this thread...I was just agreeing. Bully is not my style or nature.  Sorry SF....friends??  :)

It's Saturday. Tonight starting at 8:00 PM Central http://ksyl.com will be playing Art Bell: Somewhere in Time, when he journeys back to January 28, 1999, when Art was joined by Linda Moulton Howe who shared an interview she did with a retired sergeant about a UFO triangle report from 1989. Art also opened a special anti-Christ line after reports from Jerry Falwell who said the anti-Christ was on Earth and that Christ's return was less than ten years away.
There is a live stream and KSYL is also on Tune-In. For those local to NW Louisiana or if the propagation is right KSYL can be heard on 970AM.

For those with a nostalgic bent, KSYL does "When Radio Was" starting at 6:00 PM Central. Old radio shows from the time when "radio was king"

Just wanted to post this suggestion ....

Once per show, have a rapid-fire, lightning round of Wormhole Questions only.  Maybe just like 5-10 mins. or so.  It could be called something catchy like "Wormhole Corner" or "Messages from Beyond" or whatever.  (And maybe Redacted can sift through some of the better ones for Art so he doesn't have to compile them all in real-time.)

I love the callers, but sometimes they can ramble thus eating up precious time.  A segment like this could bundle together several good, concise questions for the guest.  Then to top it off, it can be used for marketing, so that at the end of each segment, remind the audience that any Time Traveler can send a question into the wormhole.

I love this idea!!

It inadvertently promotes one of the benefits of being a "time traveler" and also adds value to subscribers where they have a special segment on each show where they can exclusively be heard.

If Art decides to go with this idea, he/we just have to think of a catchy relevant name for the segment.

I like the way this thread can take off in odd directions at a moment's notice. It keeps the thread alive at times when not much is happening and all the action is going on in the live show thread. If people don't like it then they should try and steer the conversation in another direction. If people are interested in what you have to say then the problem is fixed, but grumbling about it and not proposing an alternative is never going to work.

Who wants to read a thread that is tediously on message all the time anyway? It's like having a conversation - things veer off in surprising directions, which is all part of the fun. Things get back to Art Bell soon enough anyway when he posts something new.

So it's all Art's fault for not posting often enough. Damn you for derailing your own thread, Art!

Anyone use or know of this site as a potential vehicle to get Art and MITD more exposure:

http://www.parapods.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=47&Itemid=28

Here's another site where some clips of MITD could be submitted. Not sure what the criteria would be to get on the site though:

http://www.blogtalkradio.com/paranormal

Also, how about getting listed here for the live feed:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.andromo.dev232351.app223089&hl=en

I found these sites by googling "top paranormal podcasts". I would think that people looking for good "paranormal" audio may use google as a tool to find programs. Art/team may be wise to explore what search engines are generating for people looking for good  podcasts in this genre and make sure MITD shows up on the top sites.

The fact that someone named Mohammad was given a visa and green card, and that he came here willingly and is freely going about his daily life here speaks for itself.

Can you please confine your political posts to the Politics section

The fact that, in your mind apparently, someone named Mohammad is automatically presupposed to be foreign born and require a visa and a green card to dare live in Tulsa (or anywhere else, really) and freely go about his daily life there, speaks for itself.

I wonder, is everyone in the US named "Terry Nichols" also on the no-fly list?

I was actually confining my response(s) to previous posts in the thread that tangentially verged on the political... namely "The Donald" as a potential guest on Art's show. But, thanks for the advise!

If people wereae to buy gift subscriptions to the MITD show that'd be another way to spread the show. I can think of two people I'd gift it to.

I'm sure Falkie would be delighted to hear it, but who gets the other one?  ;)

For those keeping score at home this is a "new" classic that is not in the ultimate torrent.

Some ideas. (Basically rehashing ideas already out there)

* YouTube. Clips or a full show (every now and again) on the official MITD channel. The "video" to go along with the audio should just be an image of Art with details on how to listen and subscribe. This would also be a source of revenue for the show through the YouTube Ads.

* Use Google Ads to spread the word. Google Ads works primarily based on a persons searching habits. If someone is interested in Ufos, Bigfoot and other paranormal topics then they will receive ads on those topics. Your ads can use those search terms to match up with those users. Ads could offer a "special" discount if they sign up by clicking on that ad.

* Take out Ads on Facebook. They are inexpensive and can reach a huge audience also based on interests. The way it works is Art creates one of the posts that advertise the shows and the time traveler information. You then pay to boost the post. The more you pay the bigger the reach. You use search terms for the paranormal that will display ads for those with those interests. You pay x amount of dollars for x amount of people to reach. Just $100 can reach tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands of people. As above if people subscribe by clicking on the link then they get a discount.

* Use Facebook/Twitter/Instagram more. The sharing, retweeting and liking works as a great tool to reach people. I am seeing more and more posts in my feed of things that my "friends" are liking. Occasionally it will peak my interest and I will click on it. This is also where we, Art's Facebook friends can assist by liking, sharing and retweeting his posts and therefore our "friends" see it and that is a form of viral advertising.

* Get on as many podcasts and radio shows as you can. Some of these podcasters (Rogan, Maron etc) have huge followings. Also get these guys on your show as they may inform there audience that they will be on your show.

* Revamp the website.  Integrate it with your social media and YouTube. Splash your image on there. People should be subscribing directly on ArtBell.com. You should be listening to the show from ArtBell.com with a player directly from the main site. There shouldn't be a separate site for  subscriptions. Finding an archived show should be easier. Rss is great but the main site should list the shows primarily for new users to see that there is an archive and when they click on a show the see that they have to subscribe to get access to the growing archive. Perhaps they get to listen to the first x minutes free or a few clips to whet their appetites.

You should be able to go to Artbell.com and in the top corner there should be an icon that says On Air (if LIVE) or Listen to Archives (if not Live) there should also be a button to subscribe which is prominent on the website. Anyone stumbling upon ArtBell.com wouldn't be immediately aware that Art is currently broadcasting. The site needs a revamped/rebranded. There are many bellgabbers that could assist in this. B_dubb and Curtis come to mind.

Perhaps put the call out to Bellgabbers who have writing experience to write some features for the website like an online After Dark (perhaps this could be a subscribers only section). Seraphim27 is a writer. I'll throw her hat in the ring. :P

* Blog posts on certain topics whether on Facebook or on your website would be a good tool for people to share on their social media. If the article opens on ArtBell.com it's a good way to get people to the website and then show them what you've got to offer.

* Keep creating great content.

* I have a few other ideas that I will pass directly to Heather.

Tell that one about inclusiveness to someone with the first name, say Muhammad, living in say... Tulsa (or anywhere else, really). American "freedom" is an illusion... you are all prisioners of your world fear and paranoia.
first of all, if you're in Oklahoma, no matter what your first name is, the gods have been unkind to you.

I readily admit I have zero business/marketing sense, I couldn't peddle ass on a troopship.  Still after all these pages of recommendations and even re-reading his initial posts that started this thread, I have yet to figure out exactly what Art is trying to achieve.  Greater number of listeners?  More Time Traveller subscribers? Greater revenue stream?

My guess would be the first, which would inevitably lead to more of the second and third.

Art hasn't been very forthcoming about it, or given any real details. My guess is that the subscribers haven't risen appreciably since the initial rush at the start and he has found it frustrating that he is preaching to the choir at the moment and seeing no growth. I don't know what the benchmark is for a podcast to be successful. I think a lot of people use it as a promotional tool for their other interests (like stand-up gigs) rather than one single revenue source. Even someone like Phil Hendrie does live shows and other stuff and presumably uses the podcast as a way of keeping his name out there.

Art has been forward-thinking in the past, but he is also pretty old-school and he wants to see more of the numbers that he was used to. I don't think that is going to happen, though, unless he compromises with radio stations. All of the ideas suggested here (well, some of them) are perfectly sound, but I don't think any of them are going to bring about any kind of amazing change.

Good point!!

When Art was asked on his Reddit AMA what his main goal was for his show this time around he answered "To have FUN!!"

Is Art not having fun or has his main goal changed or both/more?

Not sure that is inevitable, especially if this is more about ego than profit.

Some "best of" clips from the show should be posted to an official YouTube channel with the relevant info on how to subscribe.

This, Art! The official Art Bell channel on YouTube. Carefully selected 15 minute show clips. Not too short and not too long. The best parts of the show. Fade in and fade out. And maybe some special audio messages/ads from you for the YouTube audience. How to listen to the free live stream and how to subscribe for the show archives. Hire jazmunda to maintain the YouTube channel and produce the video content. It shouldn't be too much work but you still need a passionate and professional person like jazmunda to do it.

Check out your old rival's YouTube channel for reference: https://www.youtube.com/user/JRense/featured

Art had millions of listeners at one time. Those listeners are still out there, but are most likely unaware of Art`s return, or where to hear him.

I suspect if we could reach more of those millions of former listeners, we could dramatically increase Art`s listener base, which would mean more revenue. that`s a good thing.

Let`s face it, while Art is enjoying this latest gig, he certainly doesn`t have any interest in running the show in the red. Positive cash flow is imperative to continuing this operation.

100% +1 on that.  No political stuff, please!  Well, unless it's nutty fringe types then that could be fun. :D

RCH is frustrating me with his insistence on doing politics.  It makes me avoid OSOM.
Ostensibly Richard says he is going to be coming at current politics from an entirely different perspective or model. Something about torsion springs…

If you haven't already done so, you will want to make sure your lug-nuts are torqued roughly in the 19.5ft lb area... a little more or less doesn't hurt.

And yes, 19.5ft lb does sound like an awfully loose nut.

The above are the two best ideas I've seen so far. The YouTube channel is a MUST in my opinion - and it can be linked easily from facebook for easy samples for the curious clickers. Also the web site is indeed in need of a facelift and faceplant of Art on the site for branding.

I sincerely and wholeheartedly agree that it is senseless that there is not a listen player prominently on ART's SITE with a LIVE or ARCHIVES button (timed to whether he's live or not) - and a LISTEN NOW or SUBSCRIBE/LOG IN button (also time dependent) - where the link/button is now that takes you to DMDN. I understand Keith wanting to have the DMDN network branding but directing potential new customers to a different site for the FLAGSHIP show - and THE reason the network was built - is beyond reason. Just guessing he's trying to get exposure for the rest of the network?

jazmunda

There is no network without Art. This is no offence to anyone else on the network or to Keith who has worked his ass off (and still does nightly) to get this thing off the ground. Now that we are in flight I truly believe that Art is the face and ArtBell.com is the simplest vehicle/portal to get there.

You shouldn't have to jump through hoops to find the show. Everything should lead back to and launch from ArtBell.com. The live show, the archives, Subscriptions, Guest Info, Paranormal news, Articles, Wormhole, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, EVERYTHING.

Sure it's great that there is a network but Dark Matter Digital Network doesn't have the same name recognition as Art Bell.

Branding is so important and Art Bell IS the brand.

Well to be fair, Keith has been Art's webmaster for over 20 years... maybe he's a bit too "set in his ways".

I'm not disagreeing with you, at all.  I am, rather, wholeheartedly agreeing and pointing out that perhaps doing it "the way we did it back in MY day" might not apply to the modern media consumers Art is hoping to attract. Sometimes new blood and fresh eyes are necessary.

albrecht

Also maybe like Red Ice and some shows do and have a "free" podcast/download for anyone of the first hour only and Time Travelers can get the whole thing. (Of course the live stuff still free on SW, streaming, and stations.)

At the very least, it'd help if the wormhole and MITD archives were on artbell.com, then Other Side of Midnight can still be maintained on the DMDN site.
