Looks like I stopped reading and went to sleep too early. :) Thanks, probably wouldn't have checked out the rest of the thread otherwise.

Well, that was a let-down.

Linda Moulton Howe's name was mentioned by Art within the 1st few seconds of tonights SIT.  She got some "parts" tested via Electron Microscope.  These aluminum parts weigh much too much for he amount of material that is present, suggesting other than this world metallurgy.

Kinda weird how her name was mentioned.

Art's Parts?  That's weird though.  Either it's aluminum and has the density of aluminum, or it's an alloy of aluminum with the density of that alloy (which doesn't make it extra-terrestrial at all), or it's not aluminum.  Another possibility is an aluminum alloy that has been processed into an amorphous structure rather than crystalline, which could account for a small difference in density (which again doesn't make it extra-terrestrial at all).

Are they suggesting it was a heavier isotope of aluminum?

She did extensive research on the alleged parts of the crashed Roswell craft.  The lady is my hero and one of a kind... There can be only one Linda Howe.

Art reports that Russian males average life expectancy dropped from 65 years down to 58 years, and by 2005 is to drop down to 52 years.

1 in 6 Russians will become drug addicts.

1 in 4 Russian babies is born healthy.

There is 2 abortions for every Russian live birth.

Democracy is literally killing Russians.

I find those stats alarming.

SIT feels even better than usual, now that Art's back with MiTD.  :)  It's amazing how little Art's voice has changed since almost 20 years ago.

I agree with your Aluminum or alloy of Aluminum or not Aluminum thoughts.

I don't know if they were suggesting an isotope of Aluminum or not, but the "suggestion" was that the material was extra-terrestrial.
Art did report that the results would be made available during a show "next week", so the week following this show date of 5/20/96 or May 20, 1996.

BTW May 20th, 1996 was a Monday.

Has or hasn't changed?

I think his voice sounds the same.  Surprising esp. since Art has made some serious lifestyle changes over those 20 years.

And yes, I agree tonights SIT feels better than usual.  I'm very happy that Art is back live on Midnight ITD.

Pretty much hasn't changed.  Age takes it's toll on all of us, with some folk's voices taking a hit but Art's is still trucking along.  One of the best voices for radio.

I've never cared for Noory's voice.  Besides his malaprops and other bungling, I don't find the quality of his voice pleasant.  He sounds crude, imprecise, and uneducated.  He comes across as a lout.  How he ever ended-up behind a mike is a mystery to me.

GFP2216, I found some more info on the analysis:

Art reports on May 20th, 1996 :
The part weighs 97 mg. is weighs and should weigh 160mg.  aka.1100 aluminum
measures 6mm x 6mm x 1mm
.

But this is before the entire analysis was released, which is included in better detail below.

"UFO PARTS" LESS ANOMALOUS THAN PREVIOUSLY CLAIMED
But Some Odd Features Remain to Be Explained

Reporting on Art Bell's syndicated radio program "Dreamland" Sunday night,
June 9, investigator Linda Howe said that the strange aluminum pieces sent to
Bell by an anonymous source are not as anomalous as previously reported. The
pieces, dubbed "Art's Parts," are allegedly part of the wreckage recovered
from the fabled UFO crash near Roswell, New Mexico in 1947. According to a
letter accompanying the pieces, the sender's grandfather recovered them at
the crash site and held them in secret until shortly before his death, when
he disclosed them to other members of the family.

Linda Howe has helped to coordinate laboratory analysis of some of the
pieces. So far it has been determined that they are composed mainly of
extremely pure aluminum. However, preliminary measurement of the size of one
piece, when compared with its weight, seemed to indicate that its density was
about 60% greater than expected for aluminum. Though small amounts of other
elements were identified in the piece, nothing accounted for the large weight
discrepancy.

Now Linda Howe says a simple error of measurement was responsible for what
appeared at first to be a potentially earthshaking discovery.

The scientist who first measured the piece was a biologist, Howe said. He
used a scanning electron microscope to take the size measurements, not
realizing that this method was prone to large error. A week later, after the
object's apparently anomalous density had been announced on Bell's program, a
second scientist -- this time a metallurgist -- measured the object with a
micrometer. Its actual thickness was 60% greater than previously assumed,
thus accounting for the additional weight. The object's density is therefore
just what it should be for pure aluminum.

The biologist, Howe said, was "extremely apologetic and embarrassed" to have
made such a major error.

"There's an important lesson here," Howe said. "Scientists make mistakes like
anyone else. That's why science demands repeatability."

But other features of "Art's Parts" remain unexplained and potentially
significant, Howe said. Some of the pieces contain layers of bismuth and
magnesium/zinc alloy, the purpose of which is not immediately apparent.
Further testing will be conducted this week.

Howe lamented the fact that there is no laboratory where such testing can be
done quickly and efficiently by qualified scientists at no charge. The
analysis of "Art's Parts" is being done voluntarily by several scientists in
their spare time, using borrowed equipment and lab space.

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
So at least we have the reported density disparity resolved. It was a simple measurement error.

First time posting, extremely long time listener.  I first heard Art back before Dreamland even existed while I lived in Northern Cal and listened on KSFO 560 AM.  At that time there were two or three friends that I could discuss the show with.  I relocated to Boston and continued to listen and catch up on the archives (back when they were free), but no one to talk about the show with.  Once he left Coast the first time, nothing was the same. Some sub hosts did their best and kept things going, but never even close to Art.  I subscribed as soon as Dark Matter came on on.  Total bummer when he had to go off again.  I discovered bell gab at about the time that the rumors of a return to the internet were starting.  Lurking for days until now.  WHAT A FIRST WEEK OF SHOWS!! I am really happy to be starting to post with you guys.  Nice to know there are other enthusiastic fans out there.

Welcome.  All in all, this is pretty good board, so enjoy.  Art was posting regularly up to the start of MiTD but, of course, has had to back off to concentrate on the show.  It's been a real joy to see it all come together and have Art back with a show.

Was lurking for all of that.  Finally I am official.  Thanks for the welcome, truly enjoying the ride for the first week.  Truly does feel like the 90's again, as Art is at the top of his game, hands down.  Can't say enough, so I will stop now...

I always thought the 90's voice and speaking style of Art reminded me strongly of the NBC newsman David Brinkley.

I was too young at the time to retain vivid and accurate memories, but I do recall Mr Brinkley on TV with Gemini and Apollo launches.

Yes, and even if it wasn't as close as my old memory tells me, the space interest connection may be what pulls it together in my mind.

Yes, he matched the cadence of Brinkley when needed.  Art has a million small things like that that keep the broadcast entertaining.  Best in the biz.  King of night time radio, and now internet.

In an era where craftsmanship is in short supply, in virtually every field, it's such a treat to hear someone perform with such skill and expertise, who actually takes great pride in what he's doing.

Hi everybody, open lines tonight! Also a Time traveler special line. I have not had the time do be posting because my life is now devoted to the show, it does not mean I have forgotten my Brother's and Sister's here on Bell Gab. It just means I have not so much life left! Stop asking for four Hours and seven days, remember I am 70 now.

Art

Agreed Art!  As a fan with plenty of time on my hands I can't even read through all these damn posts lol.  3 hours / 5 days is fine man!

Three hours are just fine sir. I can't imagine the preparation that you have to do.

Sucks it's Saturday. Looking forward to Monday bet you no one has said that before.
