Art Bell

Started by sillydog, April 07, 2008, 10:21:45 PM

was listening to some old Art Bell a week ago. This one caller seems to keep popping into my head randomly during the day. I listened a few more times today, don't know why I'm so drawn to his quick story. Would be so cool to have done this

Art did a show about a similar story where a town tried to destroy a dead, beached whale by explosion. It was a hilarious show. Forget the year but it is out there in the ether and archive. I want to say the "prairie dog vacuum" news piece was during the same show or nearby it.

Art says, "probably not", then tells how as a kid, in order to get dessert, he'd swallow lima beans, whole, with milk. One bean at a time. Very, very funny.
I remember that.
Art would have had a real tough time if he had to grow up in my dad's household - my grandpa grew lima beans in his backyard so they had to eat a lot of them regularly... :D

God. Why in the hell would anybody grow that with all the options of other things you could grow?

We only had lima beans when dad had spent all the food money on cheap booze.

That's sad. He should've saved money. For good booze.

Lima Beans get a bad rap. They aren't that bad and, supposedly (or so we are told- was Bernays involved here with Lima bean growers-) great for you. I actually like them, if mixed in with other vegetables. Then, again, I also love sauerkraut, sardines, pickles, and pickled herring (in various forms.) And liver and onions and fried chicken livers. I'm an oddball or seriously missing some "key minerals and vitamins," which I'm told some of those foods have. Likely due to cheap, expensive and booze of all kinds.  ;) When they do canned food drives I get dirty looks when I give them some of the same. I'm nice, so I don't tell them off saying #1 I eat it. #2 Sardines (etc) are a great source of protein and Omegas (or some crap) and they are storeable. What more should a poor person or emergency shelter want?

All I do know if if I eat a shitty burger and fries at McD's or similar I feel like shit almost instantly. No "butt hurt" issues later but like my body saying WTF did you just do to me. So I avoid but sometimes in situations you get stuck in a place where that's all that's open etc. It still sucks though.

All I know is that Lima Beans trigger my gag reflex, while booze relaxes it.

Might I suggest a twist on the tequila, salt, and lime deal? Pureed Lima Bean shot (avoid the size issue related to gag reflex) followed by a cheap, heavily caramelized (for color) cheap tequila shot?

Please post youtubes of experiment....

We're on the same page.  I like lima beans but frozen, if not fresh, prepared with olive oil and some garlic.  Canned lima beans are horrid.

My favorite sardines are Matiz, from Spain, the little sardinillas, packed in olive oil with sweet peppers.  Very nice meaty taste, almost like tuna.  Excellent with some spicy mustard.  They make the usual sardines taste like dog crap.

Ah, calf's liver and onions.  DO NOT OVERCOOK.  Mashed potatoes, with liver gravy.  Man, now I'm hungry.

Did you guys see this? It's a quiz to determine which Art Bell guest you are. Silly, but cool someone actually put this together. I got Malachi Martin.  ???

You can always eat lima beans covered in ketchup - that what we did as kids. :D

Yep, another Stanton.  I didn't know he was a gabbling.

albrecht

I faked some and still got Stanton  :o I'm going to investigate this conspiracy. The AI on that site must be from "elsewhere" or cookies and NSA snooping was used to see past result and force site to give same answer. Will consult Katherine Albrecht (no relation) also on that issue.

Ha. Not in the European version  ;) (not sure which way the knock-offs went, it seems tv show ideas are traded between the Continents) and I certainly am not going to do the male animal "milk" version challenge that, thankfully, never got aired but made the tabloid press and morning radio shock-jock show discussions.
