Oh, yeah there were two decades or a bit more of cooling due to the explosion of short-lived aerosols, but even the scientist who initially published that conclusion has said that by the mid-seventies it was obvious that the longer term trend was warming.  Unfortunately, his paper and the ones that worked off of it are sited to this day by those who wish to deny the overwhelming evidence of modern science.
