What would change all this would be civil unrest. Consider tonight you will go to bed and tomorrow you will feel unrest because you will have Lost a hour of sleep. However if people simply started to ignore all the media people who remind you to deal with your clocks the hit to the economy would be staggering as would the hit to your personal economy when you got canned from your job. The resulting disruption would finally wake our leaders up and in a emergency session of congress all this clock insanity would end...now I feel better.

I live up here on the Canada-U.S. Border.  Daytime on the winter solstice is only eight hours long, and often a rather dim eight hours due to all the cloud cover.  Keeping daylight saving time year round would mean the sun wouldn't rise until after nine, and that would make it awfully hard to go to work in the morning.

On the other hand, the day is over 16 hours long in June and July.  If we didn't have daylights saving those months, the Sun would be waking me up at four a.m.

Maybe it could be shifted by half an hour, but then noon would never really be noon and then where would you be?

There is truly something wrong with an country that one the one hand not pass anything to even keep Homeland security funded, or for that matter can not agree on anything at all but can somehow agree on a new damn date every Year to change the GD clocks.

One of the few good things about dictators, autocrats, and overly zealous revolutionaries. No matter the stripe they all seem to enjoy trying to mess with time. Whether it is new calendars, 'Year Zero's', eliminating/changing time-zones, or ending/changing day-light savings/summer-time, etc they all seem to want to try something new or put their stamp on time. I like it.

Another even more insidious problem is adjustment for the leap year. This ultimately prevents humanoids here on earth sensing the slow and inexorable change of the time of the seasons caused by the procession of the equinox.
I remember a Dave interview with Robert Bauval, where Bauval was attempting to make just this point, and once again, like clockwork, Dave destroyed the interview. He may as well have injected "how bout them cubs" it was so incredibly stupid. I was pissed. A recurring theme when listening to a idiot with a microphone.

I might blast out further details on Sunday night shortly after 10Pm PT but I am sure many of you will miss it because of the pain in the ass stupid spring forward bull shit. I HATE changing clocks. I have lived in 3rd World country's and even they don't do it. What is wrong with us, we are even stupid enough to change the time every damn Year when this stupid ritual must be undertaken.

I too HATE this time of year. I am not a morning person but have to get up at an ungodly hour for work and this about kills me every year. I have signed online petitions to senators/ congress, but does that really do any good?  I doubt it.  This would be a GREAT subject for your show!  I would really like to know what the hell good is this supposed to do? I cannot see any benefit to keeping this archaic practice going.

And BTW, some of the kind souls here have shared with me your plans for July and I am so excited I may not sleep tonight!  I will be sure to keep a close watch for your next announcement tomorrow night!

Leap year makes up for the year being 365.2425 days long, a problem since it is logistically difficult to start a new year at different times of day each year.  The precession of the equinoxes is due to a much longer cycle of the Earth's wobble.  The two things are unrelated, I'm afraid.

We don't change time here in Saskatchewan. We are on DST all year round. I would prefer to change to double DST in summer as the sun rises at around 4:30 am in mid summer, and there is no bloody need for that.   5:30 am sunrise would be more acceptable, and the extra hour of light in the evening gives more time for activities after work.

Your time changes are killing me too. Last week the GabCast started at 12pm for me. Because you are going onto daylight time next week the GabCast will start at 11am and then at the start of April when I come off daylight time the GabCast will start at 10am.

I'm taking the minority position on this, too. I love the long, long summer evenings. Purely selfish reasons, but there's nothing I love more than sitting outside in the summer evenings.
