...I have come to dislike many songs after listening to them on a constant rotation on a show that will remain nameless. ....

This is actually a very good point.  At best I have mixed feelings about some of them now.  Maybe it is time to start fresh.

This seems like the way to go.

Someone want to email this to Keith.

Done.

Always good advice!

I really adore his bumper music, Redacted.

He does need it, but I think things like that the link Jazmunda provided exist, and there is a way around all this.

awguy

I think the deal with copyrighted music basically comes down to this:

There is no problem streaming music. But you can't have it available as a download in any way (Like an MP3).
This explains why the C2C streaming archives include bumper music but the downloadable podcasts do not.

So Art COULD include the bumper music during the live show but remove it for the podcast. Any decent audio mixer will allow you to record two separate feeds. You could easily set it up so that the live broadcast has music and the podcast version does not.

I'm not sure how Rollye does it. I'm guessing her show is still small enough that it's not worth going after her for copyright infringement.

I have faith in you Art.  I know you'll find a solution.

Catsmile

Wherez Skeeter Skeeter & Daryl, when you need them?
(Loud Ambulance Sounds)
That should stir some interest.

There always is.  Jaz & Bateman are a couple of sharp dudes.

But, for those who didn't read HorrorReporter's post, Art said he is not quitting, he just has to figure this out first.  As you said, this too shall pass.

He's keeping us in the loop of production.  These are the kinds of things that happen behind the scenes.

What the Hell?  Why so quick to pull the plug on the whole thing just because of bumper music?  Elevator music would do just fine....we want Art Bell, not stinking bumper music.  Jesus.

laserjock

It's business, and you've got to be business like in how you handle it.

gnooryblows

what the fuck, what the goddamn mother fuck.
what a fuckin bombshell. just signed onto facebook to find a big slap in the face from arts page. omfg man, omfg. what a bunch of bullshit.
art, you are sorely needed. nobody gives a damn about your bumper music. your voice, insight, interview skills and personality are what matter. but i read the part where you said you were deadset on the music thing too.
hopefully, this will steer art back toward terrestrial radio, where he can dominate gnoory.
honestly though, this man is but a house of cards. a stiff breeze will blow him over, its something new every time. now no music so he gives up?
art, this is the modern era of every slacker loser joker who calls himself a musician has a legit fucking recording studio in his basement. contract someone to make some decent, creepy, ethereal, paranormally, physicsy, sciencey, astronomyish, inspiring, futuristic, (or whatever other quality you want it to have) music and lets move on with the show! daaaaamn man. you could have someone compose your own Dark Matter theme, and it could be wonderful.

oooooorrrrrrrrrrr go back to terrestrial radio and host some awesome open lines shows, because you PROBABLY will actually have a caller pool there! unlike when streaming! omfg, if people honestly had a quality alternative to coast to coast, just imagine how quickly that fuckin show would fold.

anyway, i was pissed off and steamed up when i started writing this post, but now im more calmed down. figure this shit out bro, i for one am rooting for you and rooting for you to blow gnoory out of the water (because he blows).

Somewhere in Hell George Noory just farted in delight.

Kelt

If he  wants free music he just has to ask.

Hell, I can cobble something halfway decent together in 30 minutes with off the shelf software.

So .. Art has quit before he started .. now THAT's a new one.  ???

The next reason for stopping the show will be the surprise that he has to use electricity to power his microphone.  Can't have that.

Stopping everything over this seems extremely disproportionate.

electricity is just a logistical nightmare, cant expect anybody to overcome obstacles like that one.

We love you Art -- no matter what!

I agree with Redacted and find it an honor to to be kept in this loop with you!

Let's all remember Art's motto .... 'Wanna Take A Ride' ... so I for one don't mind this roller coaster -- the ride may be bumpy but for every down curve ... we seem to be getting an up curve also ... I bet it evens out and stops with a positive outcome!!!!!

I am taking a fucking ride and puking up in my mouth.

Meh, George Noory didn't win anything or become king of anything because Art hit a roadblock. He's still a second rate lounge lizard wannabe. So go ahead and piss yourself with excitement, Jorch. Whether or not Art returns means absolutely nothing when it comes to the hole you drove C2C into, singlehandedly.

I get what Art is saying. His music is very important to him, and he's the one at the mic for three hours. So, there has to be a way around this particular obstacle that he can use, like not using youtube for one, even though I thought that would be a great forum for him. But youtube has become a real pain in the ass nanny establishment and so other less corporate driven venues should be explored before calling it a day, or consider eliminating the music from the podcast downloads.

I'll listen to Art with or without music, but I respect his right to call the shots on his show his way. He doesn't have suits breathing down his neck, he's making his own format the way he wants, and while this may be a temporary roadblock, I have to believe what with all the good, practical advice thrown his way upthread that he will find a way to produce this show his way with his music.

I'll continue to wait for my ride.

Keith would probably forget to advise him that you need to call the electricity company to get it connected.

SaucyRossy

Hey guys and gals, had to swing by after reading about the facebook post.

At this point Art has quit the reboot of dark matter twice before it's even allowed to of been on?

A few things to think about.

1. I or some one else brought this up a long time ago. It's hilarious to think they haven't thought about this.

2. Art needs a producer, not a webmaster. A producer with real world radio experience. Even with the tiny amount of experience I have, I would of saw this problem coming from a mile away.

3. Problems. Every little problem is a causes for the apocalypse. Seriously, it's so over dramatic. Another reason he needs a producer, a producer would take care of problems that Art would never know about, keeping his stress levels low.

4. Partner with KNYE, have them replay your show from 2am til 5am. Problem solved.

I get why Art wants the bumper music. I love the bumper music! But the multitude of aolutions to this are staggering, yet instead of saying WE HAVE A PROBLEM THAT NEEDS SOLVED

Art and Keith just decide to go with "THE SKY IS FALLING CANCEL EVERYTHING!!!!!"

Hope you've all been well, I hope in a week or so I'll read it's been resolved then a month later I'll read Art post "Why I'm retroactively canceling Dark Matter" on his FB page.

There are thousands of new artists willing to have their stuff played for free as bumper music.  Stopping the show over this triviality is like not taking an elevator if there's no music.

This was my hope for so long.  But it does not seem like Art is interested in going this direction - too much corporate control, commercials, internal politics, etc.  (that's just my impression.)

AB:  "Yes I could do the show with no music but I will not because it was part of the very soul of my show as any of my former listener’s know."

Bullshit.  The soul of the show was Art Bell.
