So, did anyone see Art announce that it was not only the stalker troubles but COPD that drove him from the chair?

Yes and it breaks my heart. I've known some who've had it... I haven't figured out how to properly respond to that yet other than to say my thoughts and prayers are with Art and his family.

ziznak

Why tell us about COPD now?  we know he used to smoke like a fiend and he's admitted to using every nicotine replacement product in the book...

Why not just say "Hey, I love doing the show but my COPD is a real bitch so I'll doing a few nights a week"

So right now we are to believe Art's claims about "stalker-gate" happeneing while the whole time he had COPD problems?  why not mention it before? like, during "stalker-gate?"

I'm a "benefit of the doubt" guy when I can't really prove something but... cmon Art!

you are a grown assed man if you were having problems doing the show due to COPD then should have just said so.  The stalker thing is believable only because I just can't see him making it up when he had a perfectly good excuse to quite with the COPD... people wouldnt question that they'd just say "ah well, Art quit again... COPD this time not his back... he is getting old tho... god bless him and thanks for the few months of shows"

Him making up the stalker just seems like it would have been a stupid red herring to use unless he was really sensitive about quitting again over health issues....

i dunno

COPD hits about 50 out of 100,000 people. It can be very debilitating in later stages. I guess it is important to realize, being born is the most significant factor in dying. the average age for a male's demise is almost 79 years of age.

If Art is still doing his activities of daily life without breathing difficulty, he is doing well.

And that is part of the crux of the problem, as my BIL said, the "new" show was just more of the old, the "same old shit", same old guests, not ground breaking.

Yes, I thought I had something in common with Art, but I didn't. My woman is neither a child bride, nor have I renamed her (and her name could be mistaken also, something that often happens with many Pinoy names for Americans), and that I dared love someone from elsewhere, but I had Art wrong. And no, I am not pissed about that, why should I care other than feel annoyed about it?

And yes, I am ashamed I was a sucker. Art, I wasn't a troll, and you might insist that somehow suddenly those like me that don't believe your lines any more are trolls, well, we aren't, you are going to have to live with the idea that you just don't have credibility even with some really die hard fans now.

If someone had been shooting at me, and endangering my wife and kid, I'd damned well have hired guns and NOT cowered away from the stage to give them just what they wanted. Giving them what they wanted just encourages them to terrify us more.

And, for the record, call your wife her born name, she probably says she doesn't mind, but deep inside it does, but it suits your narrative to call her something that isn't her given name, huh? What about thinking for her and what she'd want?

You are a huckster Art, your career is built on it, and you've insisted that hucksters were being honest, we've all seen or heard you do that, and we all knew it was true. That's the key to your career. And I envied you once, but no longer do, but I don't envy Miles Davis any longer either.

Finally, if you have a problem with who I support for President, tough shit. By the way my Wife wants not just a wall, she wants a high voltage fence! After dealing with the legal way to come here a person tends to resent people who wade their way across.

which is exactly why i reject this notion that trump can't be supported by hispanics who are here legally.  around 45% of hispanics voted for trump in nevada last night, so that should tell everyone something.

Someone a few pages ago posted a line item rant that was 10 pages looong in reaction to my words. Seems pretty visceral and angry, I suppose I've struck a nerve, which is good, maybe people might wake up and start really paying attention to the election and start thinking for themselves. Trump wants to beat up people he doesn't like and says so publicly, what a grand choice for a president who will have his finger on the button. Morons suckers, yup, give another money grubbing billionaire who is only out to exploit you, give him all the power, after all, after he's had sex with his own daughter, he can have sex with your's, it would be an honor, right?

Just to be clear, I'm not mad at art over Trump, I couldn't really care the less who he selects because Art just isn't that bright, no, I am mad at Art for saying a fuck you to his fans and making up stories and excuses which seem pretty damned obvious are fictitious, his handling of the issues is telling of just how unlikely things happened as he's claiming. I seriously believe if Art's family were in danger he'd have hired guns and told the world about it, but as far as we know, he hasn't, certainly didn't tell the world at least.

I'm simply weary of the huckster gaming, and his shameless promotion of a horrible amateur sitting in his show. Nearly every night she miss speaks/miss spells words that are very common and someone reporting news damn well should know. Nearly every night she adds an affect to her voice thinking it sounds "cool" when it's simply comical. At least Art talked in a normal voice, I don't trust individuals that feel they need to put an affect in their speach, it's patently false and deceptive and childish. She sucks, plenty of folks here might even be better qualified than her, but I'm willing to gamble that Art got her on the cheap, and it's all about cheap with Art, he's always shunned professional help and professional operation.

Nope, Art can be a fool and a sucker and vote for Trump if he wants to, but what pisses me off is how he's pissed away a good thing and insulted his listeners, I would have fought to stay on the air. As it is, I am currently fighting for a cause here at home and it involves sacrifice on my part, one has to be true to themselves.

The visceral reaction of you rightys tells me that I've been effective to some extent. You foolish people want to give control to yet another billionaire whose only interest is to exploit you, as usual. The right just is blind. Suckers!

Oh, and no, I didn't waste the time reading that rant, I read about a couple paragraphs and it was too incoherent and rambling to take seriously, just a bunch of childish brinkmanship.

Can you please stop posting here?  Not sure why you even bother... nobody gives a flying fuck about your opinion.  Nothing you say makes sense or is even entertaining.

Truth right here.  One of the GOP's biggest mistakes is the melding of evangelical Bible-thumpers into their party.  I've got nothing against the evangelicals, but when you "cling" to something like that you are literally alienating half of the voters when it comes to the general electorate.

What Trump has done is tap into the understandable anger out there among the American Middle Class, which is certainly not limited to Conservative white males.  Maybe there is a large group of Americans who are absolutely fucking sick of hearing politicians talk about helping immigrants and helping "the poor"... maybe the "working-class" Americans out there are ready to vote for a guy who actually wants to do something extraordinary:  Look out for actual everyday Americans.

Yes, I agree.  Trump also has what I'll call "The Celebrity Factor."  Love him or hate him, he is a big celebrity, is well known in what I'll term pop culture, and Joe Sixpack and Ms. Facebook Status Updater know him.  Most Trump supporters are tired of the D.C. insider crowd serving themselves, rather than what they term as "flyover country."

It's funny that you say that. Trump's supporters have this exact attitude towards the so-called special interests that they believe are controlling and corrupting the government. It's an amorphous group, but your particular bad guys are included.

Trump is able to convince his supporters that he doesn't owe anyone anything and that he will make radical change, change that will save the country from its special enemies. All he asks in return is that Americans make him the most powerful person in the world, CIC of the world's most lethal military. And they say...okay, it's a deal.

The problem is that it's a deal with the devil. It always is anytime you say "I'd give almost anything for X." What's unsaid is that not only do you want it, but you want it now. (So does Trump.) Revolutionary, drastic change, not slow, steady, purposeful change. That's the danger, massive power to do drastic change. The country isn't ready for that (and never will be) but Trump doesn't care.

People are now convinced that other people with patience are just fools and that patience is no longer a virtue. I disagree and hope that Trump and all like him who make citizens sink to their level get their just desserts. Failure and oblivion.
The problem is that we have HAD a gradual change, and it has always been to take power away from citizens and to give it to the big monied interests - a death by a thousand cuts.  Only Trump and Bernie are pointing out the villains in this case, because they are not beholding to them.  Other 'normal' candidates  must (almost) take big money from big interests just to assume office and our two party system ensures that they will stay on the straight and narrow.

I hope you have some other suggestions to prevent our country from going down the toilet due to this dilemma, because I see no other way out.  Business as usual will just continue pushing us down the road to oblivion.

My big problem with Trump is that I think he will support the smaller business interests by disbanding regulations that protect our environment and I think the future of the planet is more important than one country going into the toilet.

I am so accustomed to what I believe is stretching the truth from him that I am questioning his evaluation of his condition.  I just don't trust anything that comes from him.  He's entitled to his person life and keeping secrets.  He should not feel moved to lie to get us off his back.

I could be asking when the diagnosis was made?  Was it before or after the MITD fiasco?

I think you hit on some solid points-

I just want to touch one issue- environmentalism.

I'm short on time so ill attempt to be as brief as I can.

Our World is headed towards a dire environmental crisis and I'm not talking about the (mostly) fictional 'man made global warming' propaganda- thats an entirely different animal and climate is a dynamic thing and has been since the start- I'm talking about a myriad of things.

The crux of the problem is that idealists think this can even be solved by crippling our own economy and the reality is that it does more harm. This is the whole "drugtest welfare users" mentality when a good and noble idea doesnt work and costs more harm and money in the long run regardless of 'intent' and 'how things 'should' be.

The only way to enforce real environmental change on a grand scale is with a world Government or Police force. What weve done in shackling our own businesses and butchering parts of the economy for a small environmental gain has only caused business to move elsewhere where there are even less standards and centralizing the problem to smaller areas thus causing even worse environmental problems by concentrating  the worst offenders into more confined areas rather than spread around.

Corporations who were a major problem  here still had SOME regulation and everyone was making money. Now they have learned they can just move, have NO regulation and less payroll and tax issues all around, now the money isnt reaching the pockets of American citizens who spend it back into the economy- Its making the mega corps even more wealthy and powerful and with even less loyalty to the worker than ever in history.

Its also removing the 'spread around' aspect we once had and is concentrating it into small pockets and making this worse since the damage is more severe across a smaller area.

These are such complex issues but we're not solving them by destroying jobs and business. We need regulation in all facets of government- Our founders knew this and this is why Corporations were once illegal unless chartered by congress and could be disbanded- But in the "Global" economy we cannot control what is happening outside our borders (nor should we imho) and we have to stay competitive.

Right now we are 'fixing" this by paying off the very nations taking all of our jobs, destroying whole sectors of the economy (W Virgina and KY Mining for cheap energy is being destroyed and leaving communities in ruin while raising our power and energy costs) and we are killing ourselves and doing nothing 'real' for the environment outside superficial bullshit and making some people very wealthy.

If and when "clean energy' becomes viable- Certainly everyone will want it- its not and forcing us onto  this through higher costs, more regulation and loss of decent jobs isnt the answer.

The environment is a valid and important issue. But not one we will ever really have control over since we do not control the World and if that being to happen (someone really  controlling the world) we are fucked anyhow.

Some questions dont have a good answer. Some 'solutions' kill you faster than the problem.

Hah hah, she'd have something to say about that, heh. We just weren't compatible, but we tried for a decade until we both accepted defeat. I feel in love for her for the reasons I STILL admire her, and she's the same way for me. But people grow up and change, life is like that, over 1/2 of us have divorced at least once. And she was too jealous also. I never cheated but just because I was handsome according to her, she was jealous too much. At least now I am old and ugly, hah hah.

I've run into this phenomenon a few times before.

A foreigner marries an American who appears normal to her at first.  He works, has a car, a place to live, maybe a few friends, supports himself, seems pleasant enough.  She's happy just to be here and have someone.  Because English is her second language she doesn't pick up on the little things that tell the rest of us there is something not quite right about the guy.

As time goes by and her English improves, she starts to realize he's a bit of a nut, since her situation is now stable she eases herself out of the relationship as best she can.

Sound familiar, LJ ?

As I understand, being able to grow lung tissue is less than a decade away. I think there are clinical trials with stem cells for many diseases, COPD included. What stage they are in, I have no idea.

I believe that the civilized world sees that we DO have some control over the environment and that trying to mend our past mistakes is never a bad thing.  As we make changes there will be more of an incentive for clean energy solutions.  Doing nothing helps no one.  Already the Saudis are investing in alternate fuel sources.  Without these international agreements, what are the chances of such things happening?  None.  The air is cleaner in our cities, breathable.  I know, because I used to work in NYC and had not gone back for at least a decade.  It is MUCH improved.  Things do not just take care of themselves.  We must take action for change.

I don't want to make money at the expense of my children and grandchildren.

I do not want large industry to control my government or my environment.
