Wednesday night Noory and John Kachuba wrestled each other for 3 hours over angels and demons.  Noory was wearing colors for both entities.  Kachuba insisted on at least considering a less theological explanation for ghosts...Got to hear precious little about the guest's extensive ghost-hunting experiences, since he was otherwise distracted by the grunting Noory...Kachuba, an intelligent and genial guest repeatedly struggled to remind Noory that he had already answered his questions at length earlier in the match...Some of the callers had great ghost stories, though.  :o

It was painful.  I think George has decided to lose the old c2c fans and keep his admirers.  The thing is, after a while even they will notice the repetition, the intensiveness, the lack of even attempting to learn something beyond the surface.  Tonight he asked his listeners to call in with ghost stories, and yeah, they were ok, but we get it, the subject is ghost, we'll call in with questions, or comments, or even our own ghost stories, if we have them.  But it seemed he just wanted the stories.  Perhaps afraid of someone asking a real question?  He also said that since the universe is so miraculous and wonderful, he felt compelled to believe in all the paranormal, and spiritual stuff.  I'll give him ten points for thinking beyond the index cards, and subtract them for making little, if any, sense.  Ian and Knapp are keeping the fire alive, while George just cashes in, flying back and forth, and stacking up the endorsements.

It's just occurred to me that I haven't listened to coast for months, and it doesn't really bother me. I think I'm cured.

I'll disagree about the 'OK' part. It drives me nuts when SNoory invites callers to relate their 'stories' any time he has the chance. Most peoples' ghost stories, or UFO sightings or (Lord deliver me) dreams are boring and usually don't relate to what the guest brought to the program.

If you have an interesting, articulate guest like Kachuba to interview, why in the hell would you want your audience to suffer a dozen goobers babbling about themselves ?

I think Georgie does that so he doesn't have to work. I'm sure he'd do Open Lines every day of the week if he could.

The problem's in the screening of the calls.

Art's unscreened calls worked because Art was a master.  Noory would melt into a puddle on the studio floor if he had to handle unscreened calls.

So he has a screener.

But the screener is worthless, simply someone to screen out the guy calling about the economy when they're taking calls for a guest discussing angels and ghosts or to screen out the obvious drunk/drugged up guy who's gonna shout "COASTGAB.COM ROCKS!!! WE HATE YOU, NOORY!!" once he gets a chance to get on the phone.  Or maybe the guy who says, " . . . pissed my pants."

The screener ought to be prioritizing calls by potential interest, not by order of call-in, so that the 3 people with the really good calls don't get stranded as the last caller, the caller at the bottom of the hour who Noory never gets back to, or the caller who never gets on, period.  The screener needs to be smart, someone who can read the callers well enough to make sure the audience gets to hear the most interesting calls, not the lonely old ladies who call in just to have someone to talk to (and I mean no disrespect to lonely old ladies) or the disabled guy whose one and only girlfriend just left him after he lost his disability check (and I mean no disrespect to disabled guys who have lost their girlfriends).

The show is about entertaining an audience and making them think, not about serving as a counselor for the lonely and bereft.  There are shows for that.  The only way screened calls (open lines or calls for a guest) can work SOMEWHAT effectively in Snoory's hands will be the day he gets rid of Tommy and hires someone who can do a masterful job of screening.  And that ain't gonna happen.

You summed up very well what the aim of the show should be:  entertainment and thought stimulation.  It was clear early on to me that Noory thought of himself as some type of a kindly social worker or therapist.  Never mind that it's only an act and that we don't listen to C2C for that.

I fear that even if C2C did hire a competent screener, Noory couldn't handle this new type of caller: half-way intelligent, wiling to keep his personal problems to himself and able to ask pertinent questions.  Water seeks its own level.

sooo... they should get Art to screen for noory? I'm not sure that'd be popular   ???

Great post and I think that's a BIG part of what's wrong with Coast.

A great contrast between Art and George is Art's skill in getting the most from every (unscreened) caller.  If they didn't add to the show, they were dumped, fast -- but sometimes a caller, who on the surface sounded like a dope, actually had something relevant to say -- and Art could pull that out of them.    And it's because Art's interested in what the caller might say and he listens to them.

It's what made him a great interviewer.

George, as was stated in another post, sees himself as a babysitter for his audience.  And worse, he doesn't have a hell of a lot of intellectual curiosity which leads -- night after night --  to his formulaic interviews.   I haven't anything to add on the subject of unscreened calls.  It was a real strength of the program (again, because the host could handle it!) and it's gone with the current host.

Folks, I'm pretty sure that Ralph's in it for the money and the fame -- and the swell perks -- and not much more than that.  His skills are more suited to sell cars -- or manage a small-to-medium-market local TV news operation than conduct a radio talk show that deals with the breadth and depth of material that Coast does.

Tonight's show is Linda Moulton Howe.  She hasn't been on for awhile, so she's gonna' have a full load.  The doo-doo is gonna' be rising very fast and very deep tonight.  Better put the gain on your BS meter to low or it's gonna' blow a fuse.

Lately I've been a bit disturbed - how is it that Noory can support a principled candidate with something to say, someone that I also would like to hear more from.  I though maybe there was something wrong with me.

Then today it hit me.  Geoge isn't all jazzed about Ron Paul, it's just his odd Noory way of pronouncing RuPaul...

jsharbour

EVERY time he has a scientist on, like Michio Kaku, he just HAS to ask the same question again and again, "Imagine what Einstein could have done with a computer! What do you think?" I recall Kaku last time completely dodging the stupid question again.

jsharbour

"I...I think Harrison Ford would be a great president! Haha! I don't know why! But you know, because of the character Jack Ryan, I think he would be a great president!"

I used to enjoy the show a few years ago. Honestly, George Noory is getting BAD... really bad.. He just isn't running on all cylinders, or is drinking low-octane fuel, because his mind just isn't there. And he keeps repeating himself every other sentence.

And something BIG is coming!!! There's absolutely no doubt in his mind!

Regarding salaries... Noory is not making even a fraction as much as Limbaugh. Don't compare them on listener size because late night doesn't count. So what if there are 20 million "sleeping" listeners tuning in?  From what I can tell from the advertising, they aren't making that much money because there's no demand for it... they keep running the SAME ADS over and over again, night after night, which means just one thing.... They're offering advertisers a huge discount to run their ads for weeks and weeks at a time.

fabucat

I'm coming in late here...but I just had to share...there was this female guest named "Kim" who had written this book about alien abduction.  I'm pretty open-minded, but it was obvious that the woman was mentally ill.  Yes our all-powerful US government was wasting all of its time tapping the woman's phone, etc, because aliens regularly date rape her.  This was classic cringe-inducing radio, a car wreck I couldn't help but listen to, the moron leading the moron (although it wasn't obvious which moron was leading the other).  I'm sure you all felt the same.

I still like Linda Mouldy Cow, even though I think that she's secretly reactionary.  When she isn't talking about animal mutilations and UFOs (which face it, make entertaining radio), she's a pretty decent science reporter.

I've been reliving the Art years by listening to Somewhere In Time.  Although I don't loathe Noory the way many of you do, a listen to Art makes you realize what a genius Art is.  There are very few people of Art's scope and intellect on the air.  We were lucky to have had him as long as we did.  And it was on commercial radio, no less!

There will likely be clips of George Noory on the new Ancient Alien episode in less than 2 hours, pointless, boring, clumsy, creepy.

So get ready for that.

Morgus

As expected, Noory's ugly mug appeared again a couple times on tonight's new episode of Ancient Aliens.
More pointless non-information from Noory, who is not an expert on anything. Why he would be brought in as an expert with the others is anyone's guess.
Noory's co-author Bill Birnes was on there too.

another science guest on last week actually responded to that question.
he noted a computer wouldn't have helped Einstein in his theories since its all theoretical ideas in your mind and equations, not writing a computer program or numerical analysis.
what might have been useful to him would be a better blackboard, like the white boards with marker pens nowadays?  8)

LOL, sounds like a typical caller. If the screeners are actually doing their job, I suppose a slip-up can occur and a few mentally ill callers may get thru during the night. But like another poster said..every caller now bitches about their own personal dramas to George like he's their good buddy and all. What is this all about?
Are the callers with this type of behaviour/disorder being sought after and presented to Noory? What kind of sick joke is that? Or is it that Noory wants this type of caller on the air? I would be a pissed off sum`bitch if I were the host and my screeners set me up with 12 complete dumbasses, 7 mentally ill people, and 3 complete psychopaths as my call base for the night. Something is afoul here.
I also agree with the 15 million listeners to Coast or whatever it is this week is not the same as when compared to daytime listernership.
It's obvious after listening to Noory that a good portion of his callers are nothing but mentally-ill dumbass old hippies or people down on their luck looking for a friend late at night to trust. Good Ol' George.

George Drooly

Here's one to add to the DictioNoory - and apologies if this was mentioned in one of the earlier pages - but I was listening to an older Noory show and Noory busts out the malapropism "unbenounced"... which might be the most unintentionally perfect description of what he does every night behind the mic.

Morgus

Noory just hummed the tune from Close Encounters of the 3rd Kind for his girlfriend Linda Howe... :D

I like her too.  One of the things Linda Moulton Howe was talking about tonight was how life on earth may have come from outer space.  She quoted some other scientist, whose name I don't recall, and I'm barely recalling the quote itself, but it went something like "the odds of a double helix DNA forming accidentally in some ancient primordial soup are about the same as a hurricane blowing though a junkyard and forming a 747 airliner."  I thought that was really cool.

I'm new here but figured I'd leave a post. I apologize in advance if this is the wrong forum. Noory does suck. I am a huge coast fan, and a huge fan of Art Bell. Because I enjoy the show so much, I routinely give the show a chance, and always end up being disappointed. I was a regular poster on coast's facebook page during the shows (why, I dont know) , and was finally banned from posting after saying "Linda Moulton Howe masters Noory's prostate during commercial breaks". I'm just growing sick of the show and its a shame because it was once great. Anyways, this seems like a great site. Cheers.

Noory was stunned when he asked that tired old question of Dr. Ron Mallet. Mallett said it wouldn't have made any difference - Einstein's work resulted from his imagination, not the tools he had at his disposal.

But the point is that with a sufficient number of hurricanes moving through a sufficient number of junkyards, eventually a 747 would be assembled, assuming all the parts were there.

two minutes into the show and Noory has already smeared Obama and tried to cause a panic about the hurricane. I live in NC. if you don't live on or near the beach you aren't worried. if you do ...you're used to it

Noory sucks

WhywhywhywhywhywhyWHY does that idiot Noory not let a person get a complete thought out before interrupting like a hyperactive 6 year old?  I have never heard anyone who likes the sound of their own voice more than this guy.  My ex-wife included.

I was on my way to work and was trying to listen to someone talk about something but I will never know what that was because Noory kept interrupting with his personal experiences (yeah right.  ;) ) and wouldn't let the person finish a sentence.

I must've looked like a maniac to other drivers cussing at the radio the way I was in frustration.

In closing I say "FUCK GEORGE NOORY! FUCK HIM! FUCK HIM IN THE ASS WITH A BIG RUBBER DICK! THEN BREAK IT OFF AND BEAT HIM WITH IT!"
Many thanks to the great George Carlin for that line.    :D

Thanks all for letting me vent!

As mentioned, he asked this same question to Dr Mallet, the time travel physicist.  Besides being an asinine question, Snoors shows his intellectual laziness and total lack of understanding of the scientific process.  Clearly, that's how the jackass clown Noory gets through life, get something or somebody to do all your thinking for you.  I doubt he's ever had an original thought or idea.  He has no imagination, so he can't conceive of imagining.  Amiable doofus, amiable dumbass, there is a difference and Boory fits into the latter.

Lazy Noory is taking off yet another Friday night this week and last week he cut out early and the last hour was a replay.
At least tonight we get George Knapp who will hang in there for a full live 4 hours... :)
