Exactly.  All the good guys, took a vacay after they tossed the Russians out.  Only the crazies came back to fuck things up.  After the Reagan years.

With all the hardware laying around any selfrightous joker becomes a king.

It is isn't it. Religion allows a certain few the "power" to impose their... err... God's will on the average person.

Not to mention that it's a hell of a way to make a living. The Ayatollah Khamenei is the richest Iranian on earth.

Ahh what you mean is anyone who disagrees with YOUR version of what the world should be like eh? No women would be even better for you. Something you share with Muslim religious primitives; you're both misogynists. You're both anti gay. You both have no time for anyone who you consider liberal thinking.

Hehhehe.  I'm sorry.  Really.  It's just your accent.  Seriously, I value what you say.  It's just, you know....you sound so....hehehehe.  I hear John Cleese when you speak, officious, self righteous, offended....all at once.

You know I'm just messing with you.

*Sigh* typical left-wing European blame America and not the Soviets over-simplification. The Taliban's arch enemy and al-Qaeda hit target Ahmad Shah Massoud was equally spawned from the anti-Soviet, CIA-backed and trained guerrilla units during the Reagan years, which was really Carter/Brezezinski but not really because it was actually the fucking Russians that destabilized the place because they were closet expansionist jackasses. And they still are.

Well now, there you done it.  Just put it out there for everyone to chew on.  can't leave well enough alone.  Can't just let ppl talk out of their asses, can you?

Come on, SciGuy, they're Euros.  Do you really expect these folks, who still think they are world powers btw and think they might actually have some impact on our Manifest Destiny, are going to understand the concept of Real politik?  Sure, the idea might have originated with them but somehow, they just never got a grasp on the idea beyond regional applications and some bullshit pie in the sky master race wet dream of world domination.

We Americans know how this works.  It's visceral.  Dammit, it's the American way.  We can be assholes about it fm time to time, but dammit, we're benevolent assholes.  Generally.

Agreed...you often ally with those who are the lesser of two evils...knowing the future could have blow back...happened in WWII...had to ally wtih the Soviets...we did not see them as the threat we should have, and they were able to infiltrate the Manhattan Project and get a 5 year free head start on their nuke program...

Or you can have zero foreign policy and get trampled like Norway did by Nazi Germany...

Would be a different world if we had followed Patton's advice.  Hell, they'd be speaking Engish in downtown Petersburg and the financial districts of Beijing.

Misogynist. Today's buzzword, applied liberally, mainly used for derailing discourse. Common shaming tactic deployed by feminists. *yawn*

by feminists?  What?  Let me run that through my filter...ah, yes.  Lesbians.   ;D

It's just something I've noticed about the left across the pond. It's like historical Soviet foreign policy doesn't exist and Henry Kissinger is the most evil man to have ever existed.

Is he? I don't know anyone who ever mentions him, ever.

Quote
I know why that is, Hitchens made a ton of money off a hit-piece book and then his assertions became a leftwing meme, but it drives me nuts to no end how the left over there rewrites history and it ends up over here as fact when it's actually not the whole story. Kissinger can't walk out of his house without someone throwing a pie at him and while Hitchens laughed all the way to the bank. Yet figures like Li Duc Tho fade from the assessment of foreign policy history.

Oh okay, if you say so...Erm, Hitchens isn't discussed at all either, certainly not in my circles.. Does Kissinger live in the States? Maybe pies should be banned in the US?

Quote
I agree otherwise in that I don't think you can call a group like the Taliban "Liberal" or "Conservative". They don't work on those rules, they have policies that seem extremely right wing, yet they also have policies that are clearly socialist. The real truth about those groups I think is that they are just power mongers and will bribe, steal, kill or do whatever is necessary to maintain their power and status. Religion and coercion are their methods of controlling the population that they're grifting. Thugs taking advantage of an uneducated superstitious population.

Sort of. Though like all religious zealots, they use the religious aspect to lend 'credibility'...'You disobey and the deity will smite thee down'

Calling for outlawing & banning whatever "offended" the cause. Did you see the 'ban bossy' campaigne?  "Bulldozing" opposition with race/gender/sexual orientation baiting on cable news and social media. Attempting to guilt whoever with the "oppression" card. Enjoying art as long as it fits their narritive.

Didn't see any of that; I live in the UK. Seldom watch TV anyway.

Quote
To be fair, I think some conservatives behave the same. Just not as obnoxiously. That's why I singled out progressives.

Really? Oh okay.

Oh man, I do. I belonged a few international political forums over the years and that's all the European/British left talked about, Kissinger and Pinochet. I also encountered it directly in a bar in Amsterdam, I had a two hour long argument with some dude over the Nixon administration that he brought up solely because he heard my accent.

Hitch was mentioned in a politics thread here not 5 days ago. Yes, Kissinger lives in DC as I recall. There's a leftist group called code pink that heckles Kissinger literally everywhere he goes pretty much based entirely on the assertions in Hitch's book.

Sure, that's always been a factor in politics. "I rule by the grace of God" etc.

Well, you know how it is. Shining Empire of Freedom that we are, we enlighten the primitive heathens of Europe with our magnificent foreign policy and they, being French, reject it as a rule because of jealousy. But never fear, they'll ditch their monarchs one of these days and become democracies so they can be just like us and finally get electricity and cellphones and the other things that only we have because we invented everything.

Let's assume arguendo all your ridiculous (and as far as I can tell essentially indistinguishable from ad hom) accusations about QK are true: how does that even respond to, much less disprove, his statement that "Liberals in America are the Taliban of America in their zealotry to impose their choices and philosophies upon everyone, and crush all opposition"? Tsk, tsk, tsk. Up to your auld tricks, Pud?

Aha! Nobody expects the Sardondi!

I've been staying away from this thread. Mostly due to nothing ever changes. Liberals are the American Taliban is nothing but inflammatory. There is no value in the statement. And of course, Karl is at the origination of the insult war. Just like so many times before.

I always respect you Sardondi. You and I have had a few PM chats over the last few years and I always enjoy them. But there is too much personal bias here on both sides. IMO Karl deserves much more shit than he gets. Mostly because he is largely ignored due to his incessant need to blame all ills on liberals.

You poor thing you - that almost made me cry for you...

;D ;D ;D

I would rather have the America, replete with its flaws, of Archie Bunker, where he blew his bag of wind and no one really got hurt or cared, and people were more cordial, had thicker skin (hint), were more literate, and were generally better educated, than the shit storm of murder, crime, division, illiteracy, and despotism that the liberal left, in its divine, elite, science-based, superior intellect and philosophical/social wisdom, has gifted to America.

You can't blame the schools, or the poverty in the ghettos, or the race war, or the religious war, or the pervert war, on anyone but the liberals.

PS. who the fuck are you to decide whether or not there is value in my statement? Oh ya, I forgot, you're a flaming liberal - you get to decide everything for everyone else!

I believe that the kernel of truth in my statement that "Liberals in America are the Taliban of America in their zealotry to impose their choices and philosophies upon everyone, and crush all opposition," struck a raw nerve in you.

Good! Mission accomplished!

Because I could make the statement that "Conservatives in America are the Taliban of America in their zealotry to impose their choices and philosophies upon everyone, and crush all opposition" and it would be equally true.

Then you would name an example of why it is true for liberals, and I would name an example of why it is true for conservatives. And we would go on and on.

I'm not a conservative, I'm an independent, free-thinking, American citizen, and I don't cling to cliques in an attempt to appear superior to people with whom I disagree.
