LOL!  Exactly where/when has that ever happened?  I guess this whole the workers of the DPRK have been in charge, just like that whole time the workers in the USSR were in charge ... completely.

Nope; they weren't. That is the point. Stalin et al weren't Communists. They used it as a vehicle (the name) to keep the people in line. It suited the west to say that they were Communists, bogeymen..booo... But in reality those in the USSR lived under a fascist dictatorship.

Communist; the clue is in the name...common... commune? Oh well.

The key words being 'during the war'.  And unlike what an actual fascist government would have done, after the war things were returned to normal.  So not Fascism, but a nation pulling together to defeat the Nazi's and Imperial Japan.

Things are different now too.  Back then we didn't have someone in the White House trying to undermine the country.  We didn't have a bunch of miscreants and misfits burning and looting our cities and attacking the police.  For the most part our government employees and politicians truly saw themselves as performing public service, not lining their pockets and following their own agendas.  Our cities were vibrant and full of people building the country, we didn't have an angry violent dependent underclass.  We didn't have media, Hollywood, and academia constantly lying and smearing the country, re-writing our history, trying to destroy our institutions and infrastructure.

In short, people supported the country and the war effort.

I doubt very much our current society would be able to pull together as a united country the way they did during WWII.  We'd probably have to fight the Left every step of the way.
This is as pollyannaish a view of history as I have ever seen.

Alas, no matter how hard you rub your official Glenn Beck blankie, Hitler and the Nazis will remain fascists to the historically literate, and fascism is just Reagan conservatism unleashed.

There it was right there in front of your eyes - George Soros directing 10 times as much money into US politics as the Koch brothers.  Didn't even faze you from your knee-jerk 'the Koch brothers are the worst ever' crap.  You've been indoctrinated well

By the way, the Koch brothers made their money delivering products consumers want and need - energy.  George Soros makes his money speculating on foreign currency, and in doing so, trying to wreck small economies - several in SE Asia in the late '90s for starters.

Normally the 'Progressives' and Democrats would rail against that, talk about what a craven destructive vulture he is, but apparently they've been bought off by this person who really has spent more "directly for political power like no one in US history".

Like I said, you're dishonestly conflating every penny Soros ever has contributed to anything from refugee camps for Bosnians to education to politics over many years to the fucking Kochs $300 Million rape of the 2014 election cycle.  How's it feel to have sold your soul, pal? Because the Kochs own you.  Every damn thing you post comes out of one or another of their disinfo pumps.

As usual you're throwing crap hoping it'll stick. The latest craven lie from the right; conflating broad Soros foundations contributions to humanitarian and civil rights groups with "bankrolling the Ferguson riots ".  The born-to-immense wealth Kochs, now worth over $100 Billion and spending directly for political power like no one in US history, are the worst threat to its democracy this country has ever known.

One thing your little one-sided chart left out is Soros spending 10's of millions in the little watched Secretary of State races at the state level.  These are the people who declare the election results in each state - statewide offices and electoral votes for President.

Getting as many Left-wing toadies into these offices as possible, in case they need to call on them to steal an election here and there.

Your every thought springs from either some radio ranter's need to incite the white rabble, or from the Kochs' regiments of professional propagandists. How on earth do you keep up with the torrent of baloney from the right for redistribution? You deftly try to drop that "10's of millions" (sic) turd (more factually, Soros contributed tens of thousands in SoS politics) yet you support how the Republican SoSs, whose elections were bought by the Kochs, since 2010 have trashed minority and low income voter rights.

Soros maintains that 1944 was the "happiest year of his life."

That would be the year that he, as a teenager, gleefully went around with his demented father confiscating Jewish property. He`s a sick, twisted f*** and that`s ALL you need to know about that piece of rubbish.

No; one is a fascist dictatorship, the other is Communism. That a few self appointed elite hijack the term and use it to subjugate the other citizens for their own ends is irrelevant. Communism won't work if there is an elite over lording the masses.

I wish I had the time to listen to talk radio, there are some smart entertaining people out there very skilled at analyzing current events.

The fact is, I live just a few minutes up the freeway from 3 towns with large colonies of these miscreants and misfits - Oakland, Berkeley, and San Francisco.  Everything from the noble homeless paid to sit in trees, to the sanctimonious blowhard professors and politicians.  All I have to do is listen to what they say and watch what they do

WTF?  He was 13 years old in 1944.  You can easily find and listen to his remarks; so viciously twisted by the right; on Youtube. He was speaking in the context of being safe from what he saw happening around him in 1944 Hungary.  You should check out the facts before repeating the righties' personal smears.  Soros is a decent man who's used his success and wealth to empower others, unlike the current crop of greedy GOP and TP-pushing billionaires who think the poor just need a good kick in the teeth to wake them up and get them to work...for them...and for as little as possible.  He made his money by out- thinking the bankers who controlled currency markets and bested them at their own game, not by by shipping jobs to China or cashing out pension funds or buying off hacks in Congress.  Its hard to believe how very low the conservative movement has sunk since the radio ranters and Murdock's goons took it over.

Soros very clearly stated that 1944 was his favorite year. This is an incredible statement -- regardless of age --made retrospectively with full understanding of the events that took place during that time period.

Soros attempts to contextualize his slip by speaking fondly of his Nazi criminal father. It falls flat. He had to have been cognizant of the highly charged political climate of that time. He may not have known precisely what was happening to the disappearing Jewish families, but he had to know it was not good!

I was only 8 years old the first time my parents brought me to South Carolina for vacation. Even at that delicate age, I was fully capable of understanding the disturbing manner in which blacks were treated. With that in mind, you can be quite sure that I haven`t spent a minute of my time fondly reminiscing pre-civil rights South Carolina

No doubt referring to the 60 Minutes interview that conservatives have been misrepresenting for years now.  It never ceases to amaze me that neo-cons can endlessly post bullshit on web forums, but are too stupid to use a computer for anything else - like looking up the truth.  The interview transcript, or the full interview itself, is easy to find - if you have the brains and opposable thumbs.  Here is the relevant portion, unedited by Ann Coulter or the New Republic:

KROFT: (Voiceover) To understand the complexities and contradictions in his personality, you have to go back to the very beginning: to Budapest, where George Soros was born 68 years ago to parents who were wealthy, well-educated and Jewish.

When the Nazis occupied Budapest in 1944, George Soros' father was a successful lawyer. He lived on an island in the Danube and liked to commute to work in a rowboat. But knowing there were problems ahead for the Jews, he decided to split his family up. He bought them forged papers and he bribed a government official to take 14-year-old George Soros in and swear that he was his Christian godson. But survival carried a heavy price tag. While hundreds of thousands of Hungarian Jews were being shipped off to the death camps, George Soros accompanied his phony godfather on his appointed rounds, confiscating property from the Jews.

(Vintage footage of Jews walking in line; man dragging little boy in line)

KROFT: (Voiceover) These are pictures from 1944 of what happened to George Soros' friends and neighbors.

(Vintage footage of women and men with bags over their shoulders walking; crowd by a train)

KROFT: (Voiceover) You're a Hungarian Jew...

Mr. SOROS: (Voiceover) Mm-hmm.

KROFT: (Voiceover) ...who escaped the Holocaust...

(Vintage footage of women walking by train)

Mr. SOROS: (Voiceover) Mm-hmm.

(Vintage footage of people getting on train)

KROFT: (Voiceover) ... by -- by posing as a Christian.

Mr. SOROS: (Voiceover) Right.

(Vintage footage of women helping each other get on train; train door closing with people in boxcar)

KROFT: (Voiceover) And you watched lots of people get shipped off to the death camps.

Mr. SOROS: Right. I was 14 years old. And I would say that that's when my character was made.

KROFT: In what way?

Mr. SOROS: That one should think ahead. One should understand and -- and anticipate events and when -- when one is threatened. It was a tremendous threat of evil. I mean, it was a -- a very personal experience of evil.

KROFT: My understanding is that you went out with this protector of yours who swore that you were his adopted godson.

Mr. SOROS: Yes. Yes.

KROFT: Went out, in fact, and helped in the confiscation of property from the Jews.

Mr. SOROS: Yes. That's right. Yes.

KROFT: I mean, that's -- that sounds like an experience that would send lots of people to the psychiatric couch for many, many years. Was it difficult?

Mr. SOROS: Not -- not at all. Not at all. Maybe as a child you don't -- you don't see the connection. But it was -- it created no -- no problem at all.

KROFT: No feeling of guilt?

Mr. SOROS: No.

KROFT: For example that, 'I'm Jewish and here I am, watching these people go. I could just as easily be there. I should be there.' None of that?

Mr. SOROS: Well, of course I c -- I could be on the other side or I could be the one from whom the thing is being taken away. But there was no sense that I shouldn't be there, because that was -- well, actually, in a funny way, it's just like in markets -- that if I weren't there -- of course, I wasn't doing it, but somebody else would -- would -- would be taking it away anyhow. And it was the -- whether I was there or not, I was only a spectator, the property was being taken away. So the -- I had no role in taking away that property. So I had no sense of guilt.

I tend to agree with you on that. In certain circumstances morality goes out the window. But many, too many, were also children then and didn't profiteer and it hardly excuses his actions later. Interestingly his "Open Society" organizations always claiming to be about democracy (or at least just smoking weed and praising Obama) but his financial shenanigans and speculating has hurt real people. Ask an Indonesian or the Brits on Black Wednesday. I don't trust the guy and although I tend to agree that drugs should be legal I am very suspicious as to the "why" he is always funding those drug initiatives. And for his "democracy" campaigns I tend to also view them with a lot of suspicion.

Jr, as I call Al Gore Jr, attended the same school that Obama sends his daughters (because both the Gores and the Obamas are such great supporters of public schools so, naturally, they send their own kin to elite private schools- run by Society of Friends no less. You know evil Christians.) Most of Gore Jr's money was, until his "warming" stuff and financial stuff, was on account of his father via Oxy, tobacco, and politics. Now, it could be argued, that he turned the profits from evil capitalism into good use for alerting us about the warming. But if that was the case why wouldn't he do his warming schtick via internet and not have all those carbon-footprints by jet-setting to warming meetings?

I was against the bailouts and too big to fail crap for any company or industry. Whether it was done by Bush (fake Texan) or by Obama (fake American.) There is no company that is "too big to fail",actually, it might be a better place if some of the big boys did fail.  As far as enriching as long it is legal I'm all for it! Though I agree using government for regulatory capture and patronage is a bad thing. Even if the cause is "green" like this character Obama's actions or in wars like Bush.

Al Gore made the vast majority of his money from selling 'Current TV' at a hugely inflated price.
