Guys, regarding your self-described suicidal ideation and problems with impulse control, there truly are no other equally or more effective solutions which suggest themselves to you, other than a ban of an entire class of inanimate object which a majority of society finds to be extremely useful tools?

My personal dislike of guns doesn't mean I think they should be banned. I think they should be controlled more effectively, but as MV asked me in another thread, who do you trust to control them? I've still never come up with a satisfactory answer.

But I do think that the people who manufacture and sell weapons should take more responsibility than they do.

The 9/11 Widows...particularly the ones married to Wall Streeters, were an annoying ominpresent creature. Especially during the 9/11 hearings in 2004, it was always some Cantor Fitzgerald widow who was on TV, never the wife of a firefighter or regular working stiff.

While evac is always a good idea, I thought these shrieks from government officials like the CN governor about "a catastrophe unlike any seen before in our lives" were irresponsible and likely to cause a panic. But my son told me today that power outages had closed his company's offices in Ohio, so who the hell knows?

Disney is apparently buying LucasFilm.   Which means more Star Wars movies.  Because the last 3 of those and Disney movies overall lately have been just so dang good.

My brothers. I happily re-watch the "first three" SWs ("Episodes 4,5,6" - jeez what a ridiculous conceit), and even bought a set of Blu-rays the other day. But I've never watched any of the prequels through at a single sitting. Jar Jar Binks should be plastered in 6-foot high figures throughout Lucas's Skywalker Ranch*, and gray-haired Crystal-Skull Indiana Jones at Spielberg's place, so neither can forget the danger of hubris.

The first three starwars are much better in my memories of watching it when I was like 10... the last three spun off some cool video games... What happened to my beloved Indy is a fucking SIN... 3 was definitely enough there and again even those movies live better lives in my memory than they do now.

In the AB Stream, particularly in Ghost-to-Ghost shows, people who seem
1) incapable of determining vital facts from useless space-fill,
2) who can't tell a story succinctly,
3) don't listen when Art says, "Gotta hurry, there's only ('x' amount of time) left"

Art usually subtly gigs them by rushing them to an unsatisfactory finish, sometimes just cutting them off hard and cold; or giving a perfunctory "that's really something", instead of his usual fulsome praise.

Still, what is wrong with you people who dawdle on a story? Can't you listen?

'Annoy' doesn't begin to describe how I feel about reports today that electrical repair crews from Alabama were turned away fron Virginia and New Jersey because they weren't unionized. Someone in authority (Gov. Christie, maybe ?) needs to grow a pair and tell these worthless union scum that everything in the world isn't about them.

In better news, the three union-supported ballot proposals here in Michigan are apparently going to be defeated. Well done, fellow Michiganders.

George Kitchens, GM and CEO of Joe Wheeler EMC - a union shop - told CBS News that the initial report that Joe Wheeler linemen had been turned away was "completely off-base."

Huntsville Utilities also said their workers were not turned away and are working in storm-ravaged areas.

Utilities from other right-to-work states have also reported their crews working in New York and New Jersey, including repair crews with Electric Cooperatives of Arkansas assisting in New York State. Florida Power & Light sent more than 860 employees and contractors to assist seven utility companies from Virginia to New Jersey.

And despite the newspaper report, the crew still says they were turned away. But if they wouldn't sign a contract, I guess so.
