All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others.

That's the problem with government art.  All of us are coerced to fund whatever the bureaucrats decide is good for us.

Federal funding should be on things we can all mostly agree on.  Or be defunded.  There is plenty of local funding for various exhibits and programs where the decisions are made based on local interest, paid for with a mix of ticket sales, donors, and some local government funding - the locals can decide on that for themselves.

I feel the same way about Lockheed Martin.

That's too bad.

National defense is one of the few things the federal government is actually supposed to be doing.

... put him behind you.

I don't think so.

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Jackstar

While those are certainly cogent points, I feel like the larger problem at hand in this example here is THE MOTHERFUCKING CRIMINAL INTELLIGENCE AGENCY RUNNING PROPAGANDA PSYOPS TO INFLUENCE THE DEVELOPMENT OF CULTURAL ART.

Am I the only person here who sees that as a huge fucking problem, or do you numbskulls just think I'm making that story up? I feel like I'm taking crazy pills!!!

Huh, wait a sec. Lemme check that label. Meanwhile, yeah, using "taxpayer money" is a concern too, sure, except, that's not where "money" comes from. Just shoot me.

I wish we could come to a consensus like this with all of gov't.
Don't trust the locals, they'll fuck you every time.

And that shitshow has been high on the hog for decades.
Just how many more submarines do we need to fight ISIS anyway?

Not a fan of the business the symbol represents, but from a visual standpoint I find this photo very striking.

Need more from art than the visual though. You can find free pictures on the internet better than that. You need some kind of message, and the sum of the message there is a crucifix immersed in piss. What exactly does that mean? You tell me.

I know art, but I've never been able to decide what I like. It sucks to be me.

You're obviously for deescalation. You think you'd welcome detente between the two countries who have the biggest stockpiles of the most dangerous weapons. Instead you guys have been pushing the Putin button every chance you get, demonizing not only him but the whole country. Your gal would've and almost did have us at the brink of nuclear war with them.  ::)

Jackstar

I believe a significant part of the challenge here is with what it means to "be funded."

Historically, it involves oral sex, in large measure. The relatively recent abstraction of Congressional legislation and Fed oversight committees still involves a lot of greasy palms.

However, there are certainly ways that government (a hideous word) can... inspire, or reward the populace, to engage in certain behaviors. The genocide of the American Natives comes immediately to mind. But more positively, I'm thinking of things like the X-Prize, where money is offered to private groups to try to achieve technological goals... that the black shadow government has already achieved decades ago with their mastery of anti-gravitic technologies. But still, whatever. The carrot and the stick is a proven teaching tool, and there's no real reason to not emphasize a preponderance of the vegetable.

Human involvement in mechanisms that are susceptible to corruption, will become corrupted. This is virtually a natural law in this shared reality we exist in at present. (Perhaps I can't prove that, but I do know that my life has gone a lot more smoothly ever since I started accepting that as my daily assumption.) Yet we still have the challenge of simply doling out money to people for performing desired tasks of value.

When the Italians are no longer in charge of the banking system, we'll really make some progress.

I'm for using what we have already spent billions on.
And don't throw me in with "we", I'm not a Hillary supporter.
Putin is a bully and a punk.
The only good thing that comes out of Russia is porn.

Well, then don't bitch about military build up. If you really feel that way then we have to stay competitive with them. Don't you get that?

If any proof were needed that Trump is full of shit, his Muslim ban includes: Iraq, Syria, Iran, Yemen, Sudan, Libya and Somalia. Countries that he can act the tough guy with...

But not Saudi Arabia.

Not to mention ones chance to be killed in a terror attack by a refugee in the US is one in 3.64 billion.

Fine. Be irrational. Our military doesn't seem to think they're powerful or ready enough.

Depends on what a crucifix represents to you, I suppose.  It's easiest to see the desecration as the point but I see that, though desecrated, it is still beautiful.  Come on, I can drive a busload of symbolism through that thing.

I know all there is to know when one knows nothing.

Meanwhile--who are these Last Minute Liams, crowding the gates at JFK and Chicago? How did they not see this coming? They've known for at least three months that Trump was going to be President this weekend.

Seems a careless time to BE MAKING TRAVEL PLANS, MUSTAFA.
