The office of Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards signaled that Donald Trump is welcome to visit Louisiana in the wake of destructive flooding, but only if he does not use it for political gain.
"Donald Trump hasn’t called the governor to inform him of his visit," a spokesman for Edwards' office said in a statement Thursday evening. "We welcome him to LA but not for a photo-op. Instead we hope he’ll consider volunteering or making a sizable donation to the LA Flood Relief Fund to help the victims of the storm."

A guy that is running for office shows up in a disaster zone, disrupting the important work of helping victims, and hands out toys to children when the media arrives.

True enough. And nobody ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of some of the American people some of the time -- or even some of them **all** of the time.

But some people may well go broke this election season by overestimating that intelligence. I'm thinking of all the pundits and politicos who expected one of Trump's primary rivals to vanquish him and were shocked at his winning the nomination.

They are still amazed that some people can't plainly see Trump for what he is, but really, they shouldn't have given the electorate the credit for having brains and common sense that they did. That's most of the story here.

Trump's had a good week despite the Manafort resignation.  His speeches were all good this week and he didn't veer off into silly ad hominem attacks.  That shit works in the primaries but he needs to convince those who don't think Hillary is necessarily a crook to vote for him.  I think he made some headway this week and a new LA Times poll just out says Trump  beats Hillary by 2%.  He needs to keep the momentum going.  I suspect he will fuck things up again at some point but we shall see.

Man it was fun watching a bunch of white people in the media praising Trump's "outreach speech" to African Americans. Did they even talk to any black people? Trump does a speech in front of a fully white person room, talking about how low in the totem poll black people are and then exaggerated numbers like the unemployment numbers just to make it look worse. You really think that's going to appeal to black people, when it sounds like you are appealing to racist white people by telling them how much a "burden" of society black people are.

Does anything good ever when somebody tells you "Trust me, what do you have to lose" Who thinks that's a good line? Isn't that the pitch every cult leader or "Satan character" would stay to a person who they want to take advantage of and have them follow them.

Trump said in 4-years that he will get 95% of the African American votes, it really makes me wonder how a Trump fan can hear such a unrealistic proclamation and not think what other stuff he's saying he will do the he fully knows it unrealistic.

On the coldest day of the Cold War, hawks didn't talk anything like the way Trump talks. I think that "hawk" is the wrong comparison and that's not the point TigerLily was trying to make.

Trump's almost in a category of his own, especially where issues of war and peace are concerned. I'd call it the the very dangerous buffoon category, also occupied by the short, fat kid in North Korea. That's why he should never get anywhere near the nuclear codes.
