I think we should let the individual States implement whatever healthcare system they wish. A 'single payer" socialist, no healthcare and private market only, to mixed systems. Many of our States are larger in size and population than many European countries and we have a wide diversity of people and ideas. Why must there always be "one answer?" Let the States handle it as they wish and let us see the effectiveness and cost/benefits of the ideas. They could decide what to cover, who it covers (for example California could say that child sex change operations and illegals would be covered but Iowa might not.) Veterans and Medicare can remain but see what happens. No Federal funding and the States need to figure out funding (by taxes, fees, incentives, or whatever.) And what about a monetary benefit for healthy people without a preexisting condition? And screening immigrants for diseases and healthy lifestyle and only take those people in.

All good ideas.  What about a provision in California that provides for the change of a transexual back to his orinal sex if he/she decides he doesn't like his/her new gear?  Maybe they could limit it to 3 gender reassignments and reversals to a customer unless they can demonstrate extreme circumstances.  Sounds like something Jerry Brown would go for.

I love my career. It didn't used to be so rough, but corporations these days use employees up and spit them out. They'd rather pay us double-time for missed breaks than see us sit down for a bite to eat and a toilet break. You better stay healthy and out of the hospital, Mr. P. The nursing shortage will get worse when us old workhorse boomer nurses retire. BTW, the numbers of RNs alone belie reality, as not all will work (or last long) at the bedside as staff nurses, moving on to other positions in nursing. I've seen so many come and go, creating a less safe work environment for staff and patients.

As an old workhorse boomer who grew up with a strong work ethic I can strongly recommend retirement.  Never been idle, never been bored.  Should have done it when I was in my twenties.

Ha, this hits, somewhat, close to home. Social networking and the internet have a down side. An old HS friend of mine called me and said "remember when we got all got drunk and I hit Bxxxx that summer after school and she said she thought she might be pregnant and then married E***?" Well, somehow he found her Facebook and saw pictures of her adult son who looks VERY similar to him and nothing like the father (there were pics there.) The one time fling (her boyfriend was out of town,) the quick marriage and birth of kid soon after, and the looks of the now adult kid is very suspicious. I don't have facebook so not sure how it works but out of some misguided honor or curiosity he PM'ed the woman. She didn't reply and has blocked him from their social media accounts. I say better off for the kid not to know and advise my friend "WTF, are you TRYING to get sued to child support or something?" (He said there is statute of limitations for that since the kid is well into adulthood, not sure about that.) I think the kid is better off not knowing and told my friend not to bother them or cause that family turmoil or recriminations. Let sleeping dogs lie.

Others are very principled that they will never change their opinion: perfection or nothing, no negotiation or long-term, strategic thinking. It was most likely a political/business calculation by Hillary. At the time Hubbell was a influential at the firm and in Arkansas. I could even see Hillary using him simply as a "donor sperm" for what would become Chelsea because of a political calculation that a marriage should have at least one child to look good for the voters and satisfy a certain demographic (what was then called "soccer moms.") Bill, doing as he was and from his broken family, was probably deemed not quality material and using Hubbell as a donor would also give Hillary some "information" to hold over Bill and even sort of out of spite due to his many dalliances.

At this point letting the states handle it sounds good. The only problem is the red states open market system will be much cheaper and provide the best coverage in the world leaving no one left to pay for the failed over priced coverage of the precious blue state single payer system. The only answer would be to build a wall, around the red states.
