There's still a long way to go. 7 1/2 years left to get things done. The big stuff will be handled, just takes time. I disagree on ignoring the distractions. W tried that approach and he ended up being blamed for a hurricane. I agree, Trump needs to go on the offense. Break the law, go to jail. The Achilles heal are the Rinos. They were elected to do a job and they're just a sham. We all know the DNC is worthless, so their lack of contribution is expected.

Even if nothing else's gets done, huge progress has still been made in reverse some of the damage OBama caused and Hillary was blocked from being president so we win.

The Swamp runs on two year cycles.  It's easier to get politically charged legislation through Congress in Year One of a new presidency, as their focus in Year Two are their primaries and election campaigns.  Every House seat and one third of the Senate are up for election every two years.  Those up for re-election don't want controversial legislation to become the issue in their states and districts, and regardless of the makeup of any particular State or House District there is going to be something in any tax, healthcare, and immigration bill for voters there to be against and for the challengers to focus on

Trump may not have 7 1/2 years to get things done - there is no guarantee the Rs will hold both the House and Senate after the 2018 midterms, let alone holding the House, Senate, and Presidency after the 2020 election.  It seems unlikely they'll hold all three for eight years, considering their current performance

Getting this legislation through before the summer recess was crucial.  They failed.  And Trump's focus elsewhere and repeatedly shooting himself in the foot was a big part of that.

Agreed with both above points. This is what happens when the establishment is in charge. They're really not interested in changing things because they're all making billions and have been for the last few decades. Trump is different, he'll keep pushing the ball forward. I actually don't see him running for a 2nd term. Fighting all of Washington and the media isn't worth it. He's in his 70s, he's loaded, he needs to enjoy life. He's not a professional politician, he actually has a life, the establishment in DC lives for the game.

Yeah, once you get to DC party doesn't matter so much. And for civil servants, lobbyists, lawyers, etc party doesn't matter much at all, as long as they can expand their budgets, craft legislation for customers, and attend dinner parties and play golf- and expense it.

I like this idea of devolving some of the agencies (if we must keep them all) and locating them in other parts of the country. While I don't like Federal land-grabs it would possible help "drain the swamp" or, at least, spread the spending and corruption to other areas. It would also help congestion and housing prices in the region and save us money because cheaper real estate and cheaper cost-of-living, so lower salaries. There could be a few representative of the agency DC but the rest of the staff would be located elsewhere. This would also help certain states or areas with falling population and employment. Say the Dept of Interior in Nebraska. Dept of Commerce in Texas. etc etc. You get the drift. With telecommunications there is no reason that work couldn't be done or processed outside the Beltway.

The problem is they've managed to derail Trump on the issues he campaigned on.  The Congress wasn't able to move legislation on health care insurance reform, tax reform, immigration reform, or rebuilding the military, and I don't hear a thing about overhauling the budget.

When they get back from their summer recess, they will be focused on the off year elections of 2018, and positioning themselves for re-election instead of doing the heavy lifting and sticking out their necks to pass legislation that the country needs but is easy to attack.

As we've already seen on this thread, the obstructionists will then point to the lack of getting anything done when they run against the Republican majority. 


The Rs should have had legislation ready to go in January.  They didn't.  Trump should have ignored his detractors and focused on the agenda.  He didn't.

Very unusual times... so Trump will prevail, in his way, with his timeline, and the half or more of the country that supports him and his agenda, will like it.

To compare the Trump presidency with any other presidency and it's timelines is a waste of your time and mine. I say that to all, not to anyone specifically.
