McCain is a hawk when it comes to foreign policy and getting into wars but on other issues he is as leftist as any Democrat.

Which Democrats aren't hawks these days?!  ???

If the US continues down the road it is on, most of the politicians from the late 20th Century and early 21st Century will be deemed failures in the history books.  There are a sea of mediocrities and failures in DC now.  Hopefully Trump and some true conservatives in DC can turn it around but I doubt it.

I agree with you on the poor quality of our recent Presidents and lawmakers but how history will see the current generation of of American pols will depend a lot on the outcome of the political upheaval we are now experiencing.

If the ongoing investigations are conducted on the up and up and produce findings that spare no wrongdoers and result in actual indictments, it could inspire a movement towards genuine reform of our political system.  It could even lead to the rise of a viable third party that would do well to base its platform on political reform and call itself the "Reform Party." (What a novel concept!)  If the investigations are seen to be merely pro forma drills intended to placate the public without unduly upsetting the status quo and politicians and government officials recieve any sort of special consideration or indulgences in investigatory or prosecutorial processees, it will trigger political and social turmoil in this country that will make all that has happened since 11/8/16 seem like a walk in the park.

Ideally, in the first instance, honest, well intentioned and principled men and women will step forward and press for necessary reforms in our political system that are indicated by substance backed conclusions of investigations and their own good sense. Depending on their degree of ability and the efficacy of their efforts, some of these men and women will rise to prominence and go on to become legislators and statesman who historians will regard favorably.  In the last instance, the downward spiral of governance in this Country will continue and end with who knows who or what.

He's been an awful, destructive Senator for the most part - one of the Rinos who campaign as Conservatives at home then do the opposite in DC.  ''Oh, he's a ''Maverick'', doncha know''.  The worst he's done was create the ''Gang of 14'' during the Bush II years -when the Rs had a majority in the Senate 14 Senators from both parties formed the group supposedly to be the moderate arbiters of legislation and judicial confirmations.  Of course that always seemed to go in favor of the Democrats, effectively giving them control of the Senate.

Hopefully he'll just die sometime in the next few days

Kidnostad3,
your romantic desires are grand indeed, (and deserve respect no question) but I'm afraid that America is way beyond that point long time ago.
The third party you are speaking of was already in America (actually it was the first party) -it was God, but He was kicked out,
he was lough out of the lives of majority of Americans, -so He humbly obeyed and He left.
And with Him leaving He left a void, void that was very quickly filled up with all kinds of Evil, and that Evil is still filling up that void left by God.
And more of the Evil is coming to visit America till America gets humbled completely and gets on it's knees and begs for forgiveness.

Take this to the Bank (...even to the Bank of America) !!  :( :( :(

P.S.
as I said before couple of times -it will end up with those FEMA Camps getting finally used as they were design to be used for...
Question is who will start using them -this President or the next ??

Good.  All this would have done is take Obama's name off this piece of garbage and turn it into something the Rs would then own.  It would be stupid to do that.

And its not about 'cuts' or handouts or who gets more or less.  It should be about what's best for the people in this country who get up every morning, go to work, and pay for all this.  Those taking advantage and living off the system should get the leftover crumbs, if any.

The way things have gone for 50+ years is the Ds get into office and ratchet up the handouts, the Rs get into office and accept the ratcheted up programs as the new normal instead of reversing them, the Ds get back into office and ratchet up the handouts again... until we have a $20+ Trillion national debt and $100+ Trillion more in unfunded liabilities, and no interest or ability by anyone to address any of it.

Meanwhile, the Ds tell their constituents to continue sitting on their asses, that all will be taken care of - just keep voting for them.  When it all collapses, these people will be left with no skills, no education, and no ability to fend for themselves.

Another day has gone by and Trump is still President. :o 8)

Anyone with any vision at all see's that the topmost priortity now is simply to exorcise the current U.S. government of as many of the demonic agents now infesting it as we can. From there, assessing and repairing the damages sustained during the barbarian sack of 2016, and refortifying against future intrusions, will be the next orders of buisness. Such a shameful waste -- fucking vandals!

Oh, haven't you heard?  According to the Fake News Media, academia, Hollywood, and the rest of the filth among us, they're hard-core, extreme, racist Right-Wingers, almost Nazi-like in their zeal to suppress minorities and steal their ''entitlements''.

Apparently just this phony accusation alone, when repeated often enough, is enough to frighten them into doing nothing, if not working against those who would do set the country back on track.

In the bigger picture, transcending party lines, is the issue of cutting essential health coverage from low-wage workers who will then be forced to use the ER for their healthcare needs. We've been there, done that, it failed, and you know this. Hospitals and clinics, especially rural ones, serving primarily poor Americans largely dependent on Medicaid & Medicare cannot survive with the GOP proposed cuts.

You're also fixated on the mythology of moochers and welfare queens, when in reality the poor across America largely represent millions of hard-working people who get up every day and go to work for wages that barely cover essentials like food, shelter, and transportation. Because our Capitalistic system is dependent on these low-wage workers, it is vital that we devise a system that includes affordable healthcare for them too.

Get out of your self-absorbed bubble, PB. Talk to the fast food worker serving you your Big Mac and ask him/her how they manage to survive in the Bay Area where the median price of a home is now half a million dollars. And don't stupidly suggest they move to a more affordable state, as there is already an exodus of service workers leaving California and your economy needs them to survive.

Just a way of raising taxes on everyone with a job and hiding it. No one that supports Obamacare uses it. They have no experience with it. I have a friend who lost her job, her insurance is $2,000mo under Cobra. $2,000mo! Before Obamacare, $150mo. Thanks Obamacare. Idiots on the left speak from ignorance as always. No sense in acknowledging them directly. They're ignorant sheep.

Govt healthcare will fail by design. We will all have single payer shoved down our throats. The healthcare provided will be equal to the quality provided by DMV. The rich will go buy private healthcare and pay for both. Just like our failed public school industry.

Obviously you know nothing about COBRA, so below are some facts. COBRA has been around since the mid 80s and was meant to be temporary coverage when someone lost their job, so they wouldn't be left without health insurance. It has always been expensive, as the individual is expected to pay 100% (plus administrative costs) of their former employer's group plan.

In fact, the ACA was a welcome alternative to COBRA, which was previously the only choice for someone who'd lost their job and was unable to get individual coverage (remember the dark ages of pre-existing conditions?)

My COBRA was $450 per month with a $2500 deductible. When it ran out, the cheapest plan available to me in Texas was $960 per month with a $5000 deductible. Prior to the ACA, I could have gotten an individual policy for $400 per month with a $3000 deductible.

I went with one of the faith based health sharing networks for $200 per month. 3 years later and the benefits have already increased somewhat with no rise in monthly contributions.

It sounds like you were lucky to find an individual policy prior to the ACA, i.e. no pre-existing conditions.

My premium went down significantly after the ACA, saving me about $600/mo, and from a $6,000 deductible to no deductible (with a minimal co-pay per visit).
