She claimed to be Native American in order to get preference for a teaching job at Harvard.  She said her only evidence of ancestry was an old family story and high cheekbones.  She got the job and cheated a Native American out of it.  How progressive.

Didn't Warren lie on her Harvard admission paperwork? Then, later on, she miss remembered that she 'identified' as a woman of color... (All 1/64th Native American, or something like that.) Kek!

If Warren weren't a liberal Democrat, Republicans would probably be offering a defense of what she did instead of criticizing her. Meaning that if she was otherwise qualified and would have been rejected only because she said she was white, that's the main problem here -- racial quotas and the big potential for "reverse discrimination" wherever they exist.

A more legitimate and effective line of attack would be to say that it's highly hypocritical to do what she did and then go on to support policies like affirmative action without acknowledging their real dangers. I'm assuming here, without checking, that she has in the past supported racial quotas.

Harvard says she didn't.  I give her the benefit of the doubt.  She was recruited for her job and checked the Native Amer. box when doing her application, so the check box wasn't an issue in her selection.  It's not like a govt.-mandated EE minority advantage.  There are millions who claim NA heritage, especially Cherokee, roots based only only family stories with whiskers.

Not necessarily a case of cheating a Native American, but she increased her chances versus any non-white and white candidates by putting herself in a minority category. It was a dishonest way to try and achieve a fair result, paradoxical as that seems.

I think it was 1/32 Native American, but it was such a long time ago.  I may have done the likewise.  It's strange how he cannot refute her arguments but just make an attack on something she'd done ages ago.  He's going to be fun in the debates.

If her race wasn't an issue in her selection, why check the Native American box? She is way more white than Native American, but she chose for some reason to identify as Native American in this case. It's fair to assume that she saw some advantage there, although the controversy seems overblown based on the little evidence we have about her motivation.

TCM is about the only thing I watch on TV.  I'm tired of the endless commercials that are on regular tv.  Recently, I have been watching a few shows on Destination America and The Travel Channel that have to do with hauntings and such but usually I record them so I can fast forward through the commercials when they come on.
Except for sports there is nothing good on tv except TCM and that is even better because no commercials (except sometimes between films for their stuff.) MeTV, RetroTV etc are also good because they show good programs but you must deal with lots of commercials for stair-lifts, specialized bathtubs, ointments, and insurance (and burial insurance) plans. Somebody start the TCM, or just classic movie thread, but maybe TCM so we can comment as we all are watching (I'm not sure though if TCM shuffles content in different markets or time zones?)

Just heard from a girl I know who did ancestry.com and some DNA test and all family stories except that she had some Indian-blood. Nope. Though she was just curious and never tried to scam the system like Warren and so my others do (I knew a blond-haired guy who used his part Cherokee to help get into law school or some grant for books (a long time ago and forget which but he bragged and laughed about it.)

Different time zones would be an issue.

We should do a classic films club. Instead of a book club, we each watch a classic film once a week and then talk about it. Or maybe we can have a BellGab movie night and I'll stream it live so we can chat while watching it? Have sign-ups so different people recommend movies each week.

I kind of like the idea of a Sunday BellGab movie night...

My Magnavox DVR is a jewel.  I record a lot of the OTA stuff and then FF through the junk like the moronic Liberty Mutual commercials.

Not really the actress, but the writing that is the problem, IMO. The entire campaign is an annoying attempt to be ingratiating. None of these actors can save it from itself.

If she was recruited for the post, the check box business is a moot issue. Harvard is a private institution; no Affirmative Action advantage for her and I doubt they'd see or get any advantage from hiring an plainly non-Indian Indian.  If someone produces something showing that Harvard claimed even bragging rights, or she got a hiring advantage, I'll care.  Otherwise it's like finding out she's not a natural blond. AFAIC, the check box should be illegal, as should AA now.

Same geezer commercials for news channels, plus all sorts of maudlin Rx ads.  I often wonder if the cable TV ad servers filter by subscriber stats collected via smart TVs.  I think all that HD bandwidth that was hyped 15 years ago is being used to transmit viewer data, and not just on TV viewing.

Value Of Pie (mmm... pieee,) I disagree. She lied. I wouldn't condone that behavior if she was a Republican or a fellow xenomorph. My point is: I don't like people whom are liars. Warren, clearly lied to benefit herself financially. She thought she could get away with it. And she did, until now. The jig is up.

I agree that this isn't a big deal in any way if race wasn't a factor in hiring her. It's more of a curiosity than anything else. Look at that, we agree on something in the Trump thread. It's a miracle!

Ha! Being a woman should have sufficed. You know,...because they're considered a "minority" in the workplace.

Warren lying isn't an earth shattering revelation. I find it humorous that a self-righteous person, like her, would lie about something like this.

Hee hee @ your teepee, Mrs. Warren! Don't you dare try to curse me with a rain dance, or whatever it is you fake natives do. I have a collection of kachina dolls. Don't fuck with me!

How did she benefit if she was already hired (recruited) by Harvard before she checked the box?  This has been out there since 2012 when Brown raised it, and nothing has come of it but the usual "AHA!!" by talk radio anklebiters.  This is a major waste of energy and good will for Trump. It's is the kind of nonsense that the Big Undecided Middle is not happy to hear.  Trump's rallies this week have had pathetic attendance...he'd better start talking policy turkey instead of the smashmouth crap or he'll be big trouble.

How exactly did she benefit financially by lying? Is there any evidence, for example, that she was hired because she checked the Native American box? I'm open to changing my opinion, but I'd need something solid to go on.

I don't overlook the blatant exaggeration of her Native American heritage (which she sure seemed to. do when she checked that box), if it even has any basis in fact at all, but I also don't know that she makes a habit of lying about things. This is one incident, not a pattern, from what I know of her.

According to Alex Jones 13 or so years ago "your cable box is spying on you" and 6 years ago, or so, the webcam you bought or built into your computer "is spying on you or hackable." Both have proven true, though mainly for advertising info and statistics (and hackers for perverts etc.) I'm not sure the government is doing it but they like are if there is some concern about you. I've talked to techs, when I've had cable or internet issues, and they know what I was watching and I think site visiting (they wouldn't confirm but way they've said I got the impression that they can.) The digital roll out might free up band-width but also can be used for better data collection (maybe annoying but, relatively, benign like for ratings and advertising sales or, maybe for worse.) I think/hope the HD antenna is only a 'receiver' like an old, not internet or digital radio, is? So I won't be getting 'targeted' junk mail now also for life (and funeral) insurance, fake teeth, stair-climbing devices, or special bathtubs for watching MeTV!!

Doesn't Warren benefit by being a minority-minority Harvard faculty member? (Would Harvard fire the only Native American woman on staff? That might look bad publicly.) If that's not the case, then she just lied, because reasons...

ps: I'm not trying to convince you to change your mind. I'm sure beneath the lying by claiming a false heritage, she's a wonderful human being.

Right, only a receiver. Technically, a smart TV could be made to store and upload its tuner history over the Internet but I've never heard of this. The set manufacturers would have to build this capacity in and what's in it for them?

You're still "targeted" on broadcast stations based on the viewing demographics for particular programming but you're not individually targeted the way you are, for example, with tracking cookies on the Internet.

Would it be racist to say "Warren's been caught RED handed"?
