Yes, and no.  I can buy from whoever the government or professional organizations have allowed to sell to me.  The government has chosen many winners / losers by tax incentives and direct investment (and regulatory restrictions.)

For (one really dumb example), if I am in Louisiana and wish to buy a flower arrangement for my wife- I cannot just buy it from anybody.  The state has a licence to arrange flowers.  Unless the "professional" who I visit has proven to a board that they can arrange flowers in an aesthetically pleasing manner, they cannot legally engage in the trade.

Thank goodness they have protected the public from rogue flower arrangers- but they have limited my ability to "vote"with my dollars.

The same thing happens with telephone regulation, cable companies, almost all industry, food and even my dentist (I would really rather save a few dollars next time and get a root canal by a mechanically inclined neighbour...)  After that, they tax me to reduce my share of the "vote" by reducing the dollars that I can spend and then override my interests by purchasing from their friends and those who donate to their campaigns.

A free market is as rare as a white buffalo.

Well said.

If you look on the internet, you can probably already do that for nearly everything you buy.

That is takes special action to find US-made consumer goods to purchase just validates the issue; "strike 1".
When it's a challenge for shoppers to find US-made goods in most retail stores; "strike 2".
When When Congress succumbed to GATT and loosened 'country of origin" labeling so distributors and retailers can hide it, that's "strike 3".

Unfortunately true.  Having sex with farm animals no longer interests me now that it's legal.

Forbidden fruit.  I understand.

The writing is on the wall. Trump is going to lose. My guy lost already so I know how you are going to feel.

These days I don't even bother with the articles, I just go straight to the comment section for the truth. All of them have agendas and are going to bend news to whatever their agenda/business is. It's insane. I've come to accept you'll probably never get the real story on anything and the only way to have a somewhat accurate picture is to read as much from as many different sources as you can. Which is why I'm a news forums junkie where you can get several perspectives, sources, reactions and views at once.

This is why I like Trump, I'm fairly certain he won't be involved in a Screwjob on the American people. I also think he's a sharpshooter.

My apologies VQ.  I was in a rush because I had dallied here too long and misread "sharpshooter" as "straight shooter".
My confidence has been restored. I knew you were crazy but not that crazy

Many have thought that for months.  It appears though, that except for his mouth getting him in trouble, there's really very little dirty laundry to be found outside his love life decades ago.  Else he'd have been buried in it long ago.  Take away the innuendo and distortion and Trump U is all they've got against a multibillion $$, multibusiness enterprise?  Really??

This. The media hasn't yet blown their collective load. Here's a new one:

QuoteDonald Trump often portrays himself as a savior of the working class who will "protect your job." But a USA TODAY NETWORK analysis found he has been involved in more than 3,500 lawsuits over the past three decades â€" and a large number of those involve ordinary Americans, like the Friels, who say Trump or his companies have refused to pay them.

You can't get that rich by having a conscience. Also has he released his taxes yet? Romney didn't and I think that was one of the things that did him in.

His net worth is nowhere near what he says, and varies based on his mood.

We'll see.  I don't think Trump's lawsuit "density" is at all out of line for a multibillion $$ business, especially the in commercial  development field.  Trump's companies deal with construction contractors; not the most-sweet smelling rose in the bouquet of businesses. The context of his businesses, their size, and his successes are virtually ignored in the media Stop Trump dogpile.  Much of this stuff is written by reporters having no familiarity with accepted commercial business practices for things like scope changes, delays, and holdbacks.

I spent decades overseeing contractors and subs for big and small projects and it was often like trying to watch a candy store when school gets out.  The Dems and the media want the public to perceive the multibillion $$ Trump Company as one guy doing deals in the back of a limo; not the huge commercial organization with hundreds of big properties, enterprises, and 20,000+ employees that it is.  It's  Trump's mistake to allow enemies to define him.

The media is manipulating the public's general lack of familiarity of what a commercial construction business does.  He needs to do a Ross Perot...an hour on TV with simple charts that people will understand.  It would cut the legs off Clinton and the CNN/MSNBC anklebiters in the constant attacks related to Trump the Businessman.

It's about optics. If she can successfully paint him as an abuser of the little guy, it'll divert attention from her own financial shenanigans with the Clinton Foundation. Don't get me wrong, there's a lot to dig into with the "Foundation", but if you put faces on "victims of Trump", it'll be pretty damn effective, I think. I expect to see plenty of them on CNN in the coming months.
